Stop Waiting 4 Friday

Akia Merritt

We live as if there are countless days ahead. We fail to seize the moment and grab the opportunities to enjoy life to the fullest — do the things that make our hearts smile, dance like no one is watching, or express how we really feel. It always seems that we will be able to do that ‘later’, when the only thing we have is now. There is so much power in this moment. Stop Waiting 4 Friday is a travel + lifestyle podcast featuring Akia Merritt, a 27 year old gypsie at heart who lives a life of adventure or insanity depending on who you ask! Quitting her corporate job, twice, multiple failed business ventures; designer, business coach, amateur sugar baby, to name a few, traveling the world solo to almost 30 countries, and moving almost 10,000 miles away from the US to live a dream life abroad! She’s started life over many times and she is unapologetic about it! Here's to failure, traveling the world, love, trauma, and growth. Here’s to not waiting for Friday to live your life! Get in! We're going on a crazy ride called life! Been there before? read less

THIS helps me travel confidently & care free as a solo traveler
It’s a lot more than just packing up a bag, it’s the part that kind of goes unnoticed but that is actually the most important part to starting on this kind of journey. It’s a mindset. It’s a new belief system that you have to adopt that holds yourself accountable to changing our thought patternsOf course there are the actions — having a goal, a plan, and taking the steps to check things off of that list but in my opinion the most important part is your mental preparation.  I give 90% of the credit to my mental preparation and the other 10% to action. Here is  something powerful that I read to myself every morning. There is not a day that passes that I don’t read this. This is where that pursuit, that confidence, that sense of safety, and that drive come from!"Nothing can stop me, I'm all the way up!" - A wise man after meditating 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐳 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝? Why You're So Scared Of Living Life - Trauma w/ Anthea

Why You're So Scared Of Living Life - Trauma w/ Anthea
Ever wonder why you're scared to travel alone? Why you don't trust strangers? Why the thought of a certain person, thing, or place makes you uncomfortable? Why you avoid certain topics? Why you're triggered if someones asks you a specific question? In December 2020 when I quit my job, emptied my apartment, packed my bags, and brought a one way ticket out of the US I thought I was going on vacation, but life had other plans and turns out I was going on a journey to heal. I'm not mad about it either because who wouldn't want to heal around the world?!Trauma is universal -- We think of it in extreme cases; rape, molestation, physical abuse, but it can be as simple as seeing something that stays with you for the entirety of your life. On this episode I'm learning with Anthea Taeuber, founder of The Healing Quotient, a non profit organization that provides therapy grants to individuals from marginalized communities that cannot afford a specific kind of therapy called EMDR. The Healing "Quo"  creates a trauma informed community with free guided yoga, meditation, and journaling. After experiencing her own trauma at the age of 22 on a solo travel trip and working through her own healing, Anthea has dedicated the last 3+ years of her life to helping others on their journey of healing. How can we stop waiting and start healing? Let's talk trauma!I am so excited for this new season of @sw4friday podcast! What happens when you have acid for breakfast? — Drugs Around The World

What happens when you have acid for breakfast? — Drugs Around The World
Most of us were warned about drugs in elementary school through the D.A.R.E program (Drug Abuse Resistance Programs), which in a nustshell told us don’t take drugs or you’ll die. But somehow we were still curious and it’s estimated that 47% of young people use an illegal drug by the time they graduate high school and among Americans 31.9 million are current illegal drug users. So why do we do drugs when we know about the harmful effects they have — addiction, criminal offenses, diseases, and even death? What is wrong with us? On this episode I am joined by Blunt Talk Girls who are outspoken, blunt, have no filter, and have something to say about all of the things that society tells us to be quiet about. They are bridging the gap between cool and important.  Let’s talk drugs!  Disclaimer: This episode has no intention to promote drug use and is merely recounts of personal experiences with drugs that are not encouraged. Please avoid all drug use if you can and if you are struggling with drugs here is a resource that can possibly help you. The Truth About Therapy— No BS with Therapist Chyna Teaira
I’ve been very open about my therapy journey because I grew up in an environment where therapy was for "pussies" or crazy people.Well call me crazy as hell because therapy definitely opened up so much space for healing in me and I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again … okay let me stop lying, I’ve said it HELLA TIMES and I’ll say it again … GO DEAL WITH YOUR SHIT!But first, how do you know if you even really need therapy? On this week's episode we're talking therapy .. AGAIN. But hear me out! This time I brought my good sis, Chyna Teaira, a certified therapist with years of experience in not only therapy, but spiritual healing, poetry, music, spiritual coaching, acting, sound healing, and yoga, to read us about our lack of knowledge about therapy, therapist, and healing. And also how addressing our own shit can help us flourish and live out our dreams! She is the owner of Preserving Peace a holistic wellness service centered around cultivating safe and loving spaces for Kem-Unity, basically a force to be reckoned with and I had to get her on the podcast to walk us through the mind of a therapist!I am so excited for this new season of @sw4friday podcast! Motherhood While Living Abroad

Motherhood While Living Abroad
I was focused on working on my abs in preparation for hot girl summer and after sitting down with Bria Foster I am now contemplating motherhood 🤰🏾🤦🏾‍♀️Not only did Bria pack up her bags and move abroad ready to take on a new adventure across the world, but she found out that she was expecting shortly after her arrival to her first country abroad.  She shared her experience on having a natural birth all the way in Bali and I’m not kidding when I say she completely shifted my views on motherhood! I was set on being the fun traveling aunt but now the fun traveling mom doesn’t sound too bad 👀😂 Have you ever wondered what birth and motherhood looked like while living thousands of miles away from home? I am so excited for this new season of @sw4friday podcast! THIS helps me travel confidently & carefree
Over the last few weeks I've faced some challenging times in Sri Lanka; being followed by an unknown man, being racially profiled by another traveler, having a drunk man beating on my beach cabana wall at 2AM, daily power outages due to the countries economical crisis. Not to mention the ongoing world crisis. Whewww, it's been trying, but through it all I am still feeling happy, confident, and strong. Here is why!People tend to skip over all of the "little things" that lead to the bigger things. The things that take the least time, that we can easily skip over, forget, or make promises to do later, but that really make a huge difference in the long run.Over the last year meditation has become an important practice in my life. It’s deeply rooted into my daily routine. As a traveler, things are always changing around me. Some days are fun. Some days are peaceful. Some days are chaotic. Some days are exhausting.  Before I set of on my daily journeys and adventures I read this to myself out loud. Some may think it’s silly, but it keeps me confident and feeling safe on my travels, especially as a solo traveler. "Nothing can stop me, I'm all the way up!" - A wise man after meditating 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐳 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝?
