Undercommon Taste

Ian Woodworth and James Daley

A podcast where we create and discuss homebrew content for tabletop roleplaying games, primarily Dungeons and Dragons 5e. Here, we try to expand on the options presented to us in the published material, to offer some guidance for aspiring storytellers trying to figure out how to make their big ideas become reality. Here, we stir the pot and lick the spoon. Logo art by David Sutherland - find him on Deviant Art: https://rb.gy/hqmjgo read less

Our Editor's Take

Undercommon Taste is a podcast for all fans of tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). Ian Woodworth and James Daley are friends and self-described nerds. The show focuses on the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons (DnD), but they also discuss other games. The hosts highlight homebrew worldbuilding, which is when players create original game content.

Ian is a regular dungeon master (DM) who loves creating new worlds and characters in DnD 5e. On Undercommon Taste, he provides tips for how DMs can improve their worldbuilding. James is also an enthusiastic player of DnD and other TTRPGs. Together, these two friends discuss gameplay, strategy, and ideas for new worlds. They also review games and talk about other nerdy" aspects of pop culture.

Undercommon Taste has been growing its audience among the gaming community since 2020. Ian and James have extensive knowledge of TTRPGs. The two friends also have lively chats about video games and movies. Topics have included the classic horror comedy Gremlins and the Fallout video game series.

The guests on Undercommon Taste allow Ian and James to expand the podcast's focus. They chatted with Iko, a popular podcaster, zine publisher, and game designer. Iko is the creator of The Lost Bay, a completely original TTRPG. The hosts also discussed mental health in the gaming community with Dr. Ali Mattu, a clinical psychologist.

While the podcast reviews gameplay, it also gives special attention to game creators. Ian and James enjoy using their platform to praise creative members of the community. Each episode includes shoutouts to designers and artists.

On Undercommon Taste, Hosts Ian and John help new and old players find more to love about TTRPGs. They also offer a place for creative gamers to show off their talents. In doing so, they are creating a show for the whole gaming community. New episodes drop every two weeks.
