However, if one is a site engineer or is engaged in fieldwork or outdoor work that exposes one to dust, one should take extra precautions while going to work. However, recently I am facing itching issues on my scalp. Why it is happening and what steps should I take to control it? Please explain. In response to Umesh Bolla’s query, Dr John Watts said that the alcohol content in Minoxidil can dry the scalp, especially during the winter season. “In this condition, if one keeps itching excessively it may lead to excoriation, leaving the scalp skin damaged during repetitive scratching. The end result would be infection if it is not controlled,” said Dr John Watts. While suggesting a possible remedy, Dr John told Umesh to wash his scalp the next day after using Minoxidil followed by Aloe Vera gel application on his hair. “This will add the necessary moisturiser to your hair and prevent further drying due to the use of Minoxidil the next time,” informed Dr John. In response to Syed Tanveer’s query, Dr John Watts said that using topical Minoxidil or Finasteride combination has no effect if one is planning for pregnancy. “It is only the scalp that can absorb the topical application lotion. It will never get into the bloodstream and cannot affect the semen quality,” said Dr John Watts. He pointed out that in Man Matters’ MinFin (Minoxidil + Finasteride) topical lotion, the Finasteride quantity is only .1% and there is no threat of the drug passing into one’s bloodstream. “With metabolic activity, the drug traces will pass out through the bile and faeces. Hence, there is no worry.
