Podcast Air Date: Monday, June 28, 2021Topic: Give FeedbackNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: This message is especially gearedto those who have a positive experience with something because most folksnever hold back on complaining about something or giving negative criticism. Ijust hope it's constructive criticism. =) One of the toughest things for people, especially creatives, who put themselves out there is to not receive anyfeedback. Especially if you like what you see, read, hear, or experience. Letthem know. It’s the least we can do. Leave that rating, review, or comment.Doesn’t have to be much. Whether it be movies, podcasts, books, fanfiction, artwork, plays, apps, restaurants, projects, etc. 9 times out of 10 youprobably think one of two things. Either they know you love it because they’repsychic or you believe someone else has told them. This isn’t just forcreatives. People in your work environment. Your family, your friends. Here’sthe gentle reminder: People are not psychic and will not know what you thinkand feel about something unless and until you give them feedback and tell themsomehow.Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. June 07, 2021 - Have a Life of Your own first
Podcast Air Date: Monday, June 07, 2021Topic: Have a Life of Your own firstNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: Those of us who wear multiple hats in our life, often find ourselves putting our own wants and needs, our own life to the side. Our roles which serve others, are made the priority and rarely do we put ourselves first. And to be clear, I am not saying the other roles in our life are not important, nor am I saying they shouldn’t be a priority. However, what I am saying is that you have to put yourself first every now and then. Making sure that you are happy, that you are cared for, that you are okay is SUPER important. If none of these things is true, then you will not be performing your other roles to the best of your ability. You can in fact have it all, it just may not be the perfectly crafted image you had in mind.Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. May 24, 2021 - Everything has A Purpose
Podcast Air Date: Monday, May 24, 2021Topic: Everything has A PurposeNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: This one is going to be hard to hear because it applies to both the good and the bad. There is a purpose hidden in all of our experiences. It’s usually easy to identify in the good times, but the bad/tough times is a different story. You may not see it during your experience or even immediately after, but down the road, when you’re away from it … you may see it more clearly. This is especially true when we talk about the tough times. All that being said though, I do want to make something clear. During those tough times, you will naturally feel your feelings and that’s okay. Give yourself time for rest and recovery. Finding the purpose of something does not have to happen right away. Even then, frankly we don’t always have to find the purpose. Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. And most importantly,YOU ARE ENOUGH.Resources & Links:Aimee J. May 17, 2021 - Respect is Earned not Forced
Topic: Respect is Earned not ForcedNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: I was thinking about the word “respect” and how it is often used. One definition says that respect is the due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others. Another definition says it is the feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. The common theme with respect seems to be that it is in fact a feeling that is created in someone and not forced upon them. When you tell someone, “You will respect me” it does not create an honest representation of respect. People have gotten it mixed up and believe that because you hold a specific title or position then you are automatically due respect. Respecting a position and respecting a person are two different things. We should keep that in mind the next time we think we are owed respect. Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. And most importantly,YOU ARE ENOUGH.Resources & Links:Aimee J. May 10, 2021 - Expect the Unexpected
Topic: Expect the UnexpectedNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: Oftentimes, we are caught unaware when life throws us a curveball. We get comfortable, we get complacent, and we forget that life is unpredictable. Expecting the unexpected is a reminder to us that life is fragile and needs to be cherished and treated with respect. I don’t mean for this to be doom and gloom. Anything can and will happen, that means both good and bad. Good things can also happen unexpectedly, especially when you take chances and live your life to the fullest. Don’t let fear of the unexpected hold you back. Know that the possibility exists and have a healthy respect for it. And maybe when you know the possibility exists for unexpected things, plan for it. Have a backup plan. You don’t have to have backup plans for your backup plans, but there’s nothing wrong with having a contingency plan in place, just in case.Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. May 03, 2021 - Self-Love
Podcast Air Date: Monday, May 03, 2021Topic: Self-LoveNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: Many of us are taught early on, not to be selfish and as a result we usually make others a priority over ourselves. This is especially true when we have multiple roles to play in life. Parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents, teachers, bosses, etc. It’s only now that I realize that the best thing you can do in life is make yourself the priority. Put your well-being first. That probably feels wrong to you, but it’s true. By taking care of yourself, loving yourself, practicing self-love, that is the absolute best thing you can do not just for yourself, but those around you. It’s similar to the concept when you’re on a plane, and the flight attendants tell you in the case of an emergency you need to put your own mask on first, before you can help others. And they tell you that because you can’t help anyone else, if something happens to you. Get what I mean? Practice self-love, take care of your mental health, take breaks. Begin to accept the fact that practicing self-love is probably the most selfless thing you can do for someone else. April 12, 2021 - Actions Have Consequences
Podcast Air Date: Monday, April 12, 2021Topic: Consequences to ActionsNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: If you’re a fan of the show Brooklyn 99, there’s an episode where Gina tells Jake, “How was I supposed to know that there’d be consequences to my actions?!” It’s a hilarious scene because you think that Gina is the only one who didn’t know that actions have consequences. But it’s a lesson we too easily forget. All actions, no matter how big or how small they are have a respective consequence. The problem with consequences is that you can’t always predict what the consequences will be. Life isn’t black and white. Every action has factors that play a part in determining what the consequence will be. The important thing to remember is that all actions will have a consequence. You just may or may not like what the consequences end up being. Before you go doing anything, take the time to think about the possible consequences and decide if the action is worth the possibilities. March 08, 2021 - Challenge Your Biases
Podcast Air Date: Monday, Mar. 08, 2021Topic: Challenge Your BiasesNote from Aimee J.: You will do amazing today!Action: The first thing I need you to do is accept that you can be affected by biases. If you can’t do that, then you won’t get anywhere. Then I want you to hear about a few types of biases: confirmation bias, self-serving bias, and the halo effect. Confirmation bias - tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of one's existing beliefs or theories (women are bad drivers)Counter: Keeping an open mind. Looking for evidence from all sides and not just one.Self-Serving bias - tendency for a person taking credit for positive events or outcomes, but blaming outside factors for negative events (test grades)Counter: Don’t ask “who’s fault is this?” or blame the circumstances. Focus on “what can you learn from this?”Halo effect - tendency for an impression created in one area to influence opinion in another area usually positive (beauty = smarts)Horn effect - tendency for an impression created in one area to influence opinion in another area usually negative (bald = bad)Counter: Be objective and not base your opinions on first impressionsIf we don’t challenge our biases, then we won’t grow. Affirmations: You are Awesome. You are Loved. You are Needed. And most importantly,YOU ARE ENOUGH.Resources & Links:Psychology Today Definition of Bias ;Types of Biases ;Your Personal Hype Man ;Alexa Skill: Your Personal Hype Man ;Your Personal Hype Man on iTunesChasing Dreams with Aimee J.Let’s Connect:Leave a Voicemail ; E-mail Aimee J. ;Aimee on Instagram ;Aimee on Facebook ;Aimee on Twitter ;Aimee on YouTube ;Aimee on LinkedIn ;Aimee on TikTok ;Aimee on Snapchat ;Aimee on Pinterest ; Remember: Don’t Stop, Keep Chasing! =)
