Our Editor's Take

For Crying Out Loud is a comedy parenting podcast. The hosts of the show are Lynette Carolla and Stefanie Wilder-Taylor. Lynette is the CEO of Carolla Drinks and an event organizer. She's known for her decades-long marriage to comedian Adam Carolla. Stefanie was a standup comedian before she became a game show writer. She's also the author of several humor books. Lynette and Stefanie are both parents of twins. That makes them twice as qualified to give parenting advice.

Any parent will attest to the fact that having kids is not easy. To make things worse, the societal pressure to be a perfect parent is real. Of course, everyone has their definition of perfect, so there's no achieving that goal, even for those who try. So why try? That's the question that Lynette and Stefanie ask on the podcast.

In For Crying Out Loud, Stefanie and Lynette expose themselves as flawed parents. They don't pack star-shaped sandwiches for their kids, nor do they feel guilty about it. They're trying their hardest, and that's enough. Many of their conversations involve their day-to-day relationships and managing pets and children. They also talk about other things on the podcast. Lynette is a big fan of Benicio Del Toro. Stefanie hopes she'll be able to stick to her new exercise routine.

The cohosts will sometimes have a guest on the podcast. Comedian Jimmy Pardo talks about his career and why Jay Leno doesn't think he's funny. Costume designer Gina Kimmel likes to play pranks on people and shares her favorites. Singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke joins to discuss the pivotal moments in her career. Michael Wilder produces reality TV shows. He is also Stefanie's brother. He chats about difficult relationships with his parents and about growing closer to Stefanie as they age.

The For Crying Out Loud podcast might feel like a pressure valve for parents of small children. It's a reminder that it's okay to make mistakes and that children won't break.
