80. How To Have A Healthy Relationship With Exercise w/ Megan Dahlman
I used to be so anxious to take a day off from exercise that I’d force myself to work out even when I was absolutely exhausted, sore AF, overwhelmed and even in pain. I ran half marathons because that’s the form of exercise that burned the most calories (even though I didn’t enjoy it and it caused me a whole lot of physical pain). I tracked every single step walked, calorie burned, and active minutes on my Fitbit with obsessive precision. Did I run in place in my basement on the days that I hadn’t hit 10,000 steps yet? You bet I did. To say that I used to struggle with an unhealthy relationship with exercise is the understatement of the century. If you’ve ever viewed exercise as a way to lose weight, chances are you can relate…When you’re a woman exposed to diet culture on the daily (i.e. ALL women), it’s really easy to fall into the trap of BAD advice related to exercise, like…“Go hard or go home!”“You need to hit the gym after eating that dessert”“If you're not sweating buckets and pushing yourself to the limit every day, you won't see any results.”“No pain, no gain”As a result , you might constantly be feeling like you’re not doing enough, or you’re doing the wrong thing. Or, you’re either going ALL in working out 7 days a week, or you’re completely off the wagon and struggling to even get yourself motivated to work out AT ALL. That’s why this week on the podcast… we’re talking about How To Have A Healthy Relationship With Exercise.I’m joined by the incredible personal trainer Megan Dahlman - host of the top-rated Self Care Simplified Podcast - to help you make joyful movement PART of your life in a way that DOES NOT feel complicated, overwhelming, time-consuming or like a chore. So if you’re tired of struggling with guilt, inconsistency, and confusion around exercise, you’re not alone and this episode is for you!In this episode, you’ll here:The #1 thing that women struggle with THE MOST around exerciseWhy you might have an unhealthy relationship with COMMITMENTThe biggest mistakes you’re making around exercise and goal settingWhy it’s so hard for you to start slowWhat is the WISE method to movementThe difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivationHow to rewire your negative association with exerciseAnd so much more!Enjoy!Connect with Megan DalhmanInstagram: @megandahlmanSelf Care Simplified PodcastRESOURCESDownload your FREE Emotional Eating Workbook here : https://sabrinamagnan.com/emotionaleatingworkbook Connect with Sabrina: Connect with Sabrina on Instagram @sabrina.magnan.health Get on the Food Freedom Academy Waitlist

Have you ever felt like you're addicted to sugar? Like you can't trust yourself around it, because once you have one bite, it turns into a binge-fest. Well, this episode is going to have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about sugar addiction. During this conversation, my special guest, Leah Kern, an anti-diet dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor, and I are debunk the myths and misconceptions that have been feeding this sugar-phobic culture. This episode is not only going to help you understand WHY sugar seems to have such power over you (hint: it's not what you think), but it's only going to give you actionable steps you can take to build a healthier relationship with sugar, and food in general, so that you can:Trust yourself around food and have the sweets, chocolate, baked goods or candy without the fear that you'll lose control, eat the entire thing and feel like crapEat the foods you love without feeling guilty and anxious about itFeel "normal" around your fear foods and be able to walk away effortlessly without even needing to use willpower or disciplineBy the end of our chat, you'll be equipped with a fresh perspective on sugar, and the tools to navigate your food journey in a more balanced way. RESOURCESDownload your FREE Emotional Eating Workbook here : https://sabrinamagnan.com/emotionaleatingworkbook Connect with Sabrina: Connect with Sabrina on Instagram @sabrina.magnan.health Get on the Food Freedom Academy Waitlist

65. Listening to Your Body: Navigating Unusual Hunger Days

65. Listening to Your Body: Navigating Unusual Hunger Days
A few days ago, I had a day where my hunger was just ravenous, and I didn't understand why.I normally have a pretty consistent eating pattern and am very much in tune with how much food my body needs to feel good, satisfied and energized. If my hunger gets throw off, I typically know why. Perhaps my meal was smaller than usual, or lacking carbs, and needed more protein. However, on this particular day, I couldn't understand why, no matter how much I ate, I still felt hungry. Real, physical hunger.  Not emotional hunger. In the past when I was struggling with my relationship with food, this would have been met with judgement, criticism and shame. I would have said things to myself like "you can't possibly be hungry AGAIN, you did ate!"However,  I now handle these weird eating days completely differently now,  and I know how to honour my hunger is a way that feels good, free from guilt or anxiety. And that's exactly what we're talking about in today's episode.  Honouring your hunger is key to healing your relationship with food,  but it can be challenging if you're used to avoiding it (like distracting yourself by going for a walk), pushing it off (like drinking a black coffee instead of eating), or tricking it (like eating popcorn instead of more substancial food). In this episode, you'll hear; How I used to view hunger and why it disrupted my ability to listen to my body How I've changed my relationship with hunger to honour my body's needsThe questions I ask myself when I notice my appetite is differentHow I let my body guide my food choices How to navigate weird eating days where your hunger or cravings are more intense than usual RESOURCESDownload your FREE Emotional Eating Workbook here : https://sabrinamagnan.com/emotionaleatingworkbook Connect with Sabrina: Connect with Sabrina on Instagram @sabrina.magnan.health Get on the Food Freedom Academy Waitlist
