Ep: 39: Saving Australian Schools
Apr 8 2024
Ep: 39: Saving Australian Schools
As Australia’s education ranking tanks, a change in the school funding system is well overdue. If Australia is ever going to be the smart country, equal per-child funding, together with greater parental choice must be top of mind. A fair and equal funding model, in addition to UK style ‘Free Schools’, would give parents, teachers and students a place where learning matches family values. They would be a tonic for Australia’s disillusioned teachers and angry parents doing battle against the forces of woke mediocrity. Australia's National Curriculum

Australia's National Curriculum
Australia’s National Curriculum, designed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), has been described as “shockingly poor” by one media outlet and “a problem” by education consultants. Yet is it as bad as it seems? We ask three experts on curriculum matters if there’s any hope at all for the document that is supposed to guide teachers and set standards for the next generation of Australians.(00:00) Introduction from host.(05:28) Interview with Marty Ross, Founder of Bad Mathematics. Ep 34: Teacher Union Overreach?
Old style teacher unions are losing members in Australia. While they might represent their members on salary and rights, unions are now telling their members how to vote and what to think on social issues - an overreach not taken well by many teachers. We talk to Edward Schuller from the Teachers Professional Association of Australia about the state of play. (00:00) Introduction from host.(00:45) Short excerpt of ‘Power in a Union’ by Billy Bragg. Ep 31: Teachers, gender and the law
The gradual creep of gender ideology into schools is seeing more and more students consider themselves ‘transgender’. While most teachers will hopefully never confront this, others are scared of losing their job if they utter the wrong pronouns or air their personal views. A teacher in New Zealand has already been sacked for refusing to use preferred pronouns. Australian teachers should be very wary, and very informed.
