#99. Beyond the Headshot: How a Brand Photo Shoot Can Fuel Business Growth with Sandra Costello
Today we’re talking about something that can be really tricky for so many of us - and THIS time, I’m not talking about money (for once!).Let’s start with a question. What happens when you’re the one in front of the camera, instead of the one behind it? How do you feel about having your picture taken? I’m talking about headshots, photography for your website, or any kind of promotional photography for your business.(Full disclosure: I have left photo shoots in tears more than once, when I was literally just going in for a simple headshot.)If you’re anything like me, you don’t exactly love it. 🥴But in today’s episode, we get to hang out with portrait and branding photographer, Sandra Costello - and she gives me hope, lol. She has the most wonderful way of making her clients feel at ease in front of the camera and capturing them in a beautiful and authentic way.  With Sandra’s help, we’ll dive into the concept of a brand shoot. This is the kind of photography that goes beyond a single headshot and tells the full story of who you are and the unique gifts that you bring to those who need you. It’s the kind of asset that you need to have in your business if you want to be ready for any opportunity that comes your way. 🤩Sandra tells us how to show up authentically in front of the camera, and how to let the photographer tell your story in a way that quickly connects with your ideal clients.  Because here’s the thing … If you want to reach more people and have more impact, people need to see you and see all the many sides of who you are and what you do.  In Sandra’s own words …“It’s really easy to not want to put yourself out there, sure - but people can’t access your gifts if you’re a best kept secret...”Yeah… She’s right about that. 🤔So let’s get into this. In this episode, we’ll talk about:The difference between a headshot and a brand shoot. Why preparation is essential, and exactly what you need to do to prepare for a brand shoot. How to look like yourself, elevated. What to focus on during the shoot, so that you show up authentically. How much you can expect to pay for a brand shoot. How to choose the perfect brand photographer for you.As it turns out, brand photography is not all about good lighting and the right props.  According to Sandra, ENERGY is everything - because when you feel right in front of the camera, you are far more likely to love the results.  And when you love your picture, it’s so much easier to put it out into the world. So true! This was such a fun conversation. Take a listen - then tell me if you’re ready to step beyond a single headshot and share your full story …The world is waiting for you! ~Wendy  xoxoP.S. If you enjoyed this episode, please take a minute to share your 5 star review and a few words over on Apple Podcasts or even Spotify. If you’ve been meaning to do that, but keep putting it off, how about heading over there now? Then send me a screen shot so we can celebrate together! :) _______________TODAY’S GUEST:  SANDRA COSTELLO Sandra Costello is a Portrait and Branding Photographer who believes every day is a gift and portraits arSupport the showWendy Pitts Reeves, LCSWHost, Ideal PracticePrivate Practice Coach and Mentorwww.WendyPittsReeves.comWendy@WendyPittsReeves.com
#98. The transformative power of allowing yourself to be seen.

#98. The transformative power of allowing yourself to be seen.
Today, we're going to talk about one of the hardest, trickiest, sneakiest little challenges that tend to hold so many of us back …Allowing ourselves to be seen. Are you the one who takes all the family photos, but you're never in them? Or are you the one who loves the way your friends look in all your pictures, but you always criticize yourself? 😞Maybe you’re the one who has a great little practice going, but when your audience checks out your website, they can’t find a single photo of you.  Or perhaps you've got a picture up there, but it’s ten years old and you don't look anything like that anymore. 🥸 (Whoooo boy - that's a mistake, because when people meet you, there's a big disconnect right off the bat.)I want to talk about this whole idea of having a good picture taken, because you need this for your website, you need it for marketing materials, you need it when you're giving a talk somewhere.  But here's the problem. Most of us don't like having our picture taken, and so we shrink, we play small, we hold back, and minimize our talents. Let’s dive into that…Today we’re going to talk about; How putting yourself out there can transform your therapy practice. What happens when you find the right photographer…  (#Magic!)How to feel your best in front of the camera. What we can learn from a bunch of six year old girls (seriously!).I know that many of you can relate to how hard this can be, but it's time to change that, guys.  It’s time to let the people who need you, find you, see you, and connect with you.You don't help anybody by blowing off your brilliance! So, show up and let yourself be seen - because once you make the decision to stop hiding, amazing things start to happen.(And if you like this episode, you’re going to LOVE what I have in store for you next week!).Take a listen!~Wendy  xoxoP.S. If you’re enjoying the podcast as much as I hope you are, could you help me spread the word? Who are two friends or colleagues you know who could really use a boost of encouragement each week? Who else needs this kind of teaching? Please share this episode with them - and thank you!_______________WANT TO BE MY GUEST?We are adding a new feature to the podcast soon, and it could include you! Interested? It's called "Coaching Over Coffee", where one of our listeners is invited to be on the program, sharing a particular issue from their practice they’d like to get some help with. I’ll provide live coaching, which we'll then edit and share on the podcast. This is a great way to get some help for your practice, get your work in front of more people, and inspire your peers at the same time! #97. Unlocking Success: A Simple Journaling Exercise for Planning Your Next Quarter
Can you believe we’re already at the end of March? Yet here we are, at the end of Q1, already a full 25% of the way through the year. Man - that went fast. 😳But that’s okay. Most of us can only handle about a quarter’s worth of planning at a time anyway - so this is fine. And tending to our business with a quarterly review is how we stay on track with the big picture, with our biggest goals for the year. That’s how we keep moving our practice forward. This is how success stays on track. In this episode, I’ll share 4 simple questions you can use to guide your thinking as you reflect on your progress over the past 90 days. Then, we’ll use that reflection to revisit your intentions and map out your plan for the next 90 days too.All those big plans you had back in January? They still count. The key to making them real, though, is this kind of process. You have to check in with yourself, and your business on a regular basis. So, today, I’ll guide you through a simple, 4-part journal exercise that will give you a simple framework you can use to do exactly that.Hey I get it. It’s easy to lose sight of our long term goals, and sometimes - we’re tempted to give up on them entirely. Because - life happens, right? Maybe - but not today. Today, you’re the one driving the bus, and your business follows your lead. 😎So give this a listen. Then, set aside some time to sit with this process, so you can stay on track towards your biggest wins for the year. Let me know what you think. :) ~Wendy  XoxoP.S. #96. Can AI Help You Serve More People? A Conversation with Maria Szandrach.
I've got something a little different for you today, folks. We’re going to take a glimpse into the future, and talk about AI.As healers (and humans!) navigate this new and rapidly evolving technology, it’s natural to feel a mix of curiosity, confusion, and perhaps even a little fear. But the reality is that this new technology is here - and we need to learn to understand it.Today’s guest certainly gives us some food for thought.  I recently had the pleasure of speaking to serial entrepreneur, CEO, and general force to be reckoned with, Maria Szandrach. Maria is the co-founder of Mentalyc, an AI-powered platform that automates note-taking for therapists, streamlines administrative tasks, and personalizes treatment plans. Think about that for a moment. In this episode, you’ll hear how Maria went from patient to disruptor once she saw how other industries were using the power of AI to work more efficiently.  Maria explains how she quickly realized that, no, AI can’t replace a therapist, but it sure can save them hours of time and help them serve more people, with more impact. You’ll also learn…How Maria identified a pain point for therapists that no one else was addressing. How AI can give therapists more time in their day, thus allowing them to have more impact. Why you ALWAYS need to read the fine print when using AI in your therapy practice. How to make sure that your patients don’t feel vulnerable or exposed if you’re going to introduce AI into your practice. When you can use a free tool like ChatGPT, and when you need to use a specialized tool instead. This is an important conversation, y’all, for a couple of reasons. First of all, AI isn’t going away. The question isn't if AI will impact your practice, but when. Early adopters are already using tools like Mentalyc to save time and improve patient care. So if you’re not open to learning how AI could help your practice and your patients, your colleagues will be. Second, along with massive change comes massive opportunity. People from all kinds of professions and industries are finding new ways to solve problems and expand their businesses with the help of AI. Could you be the next disruptor, just like Maria? Perhaps you’ll be another who finds new ways for AI to empower therapists. :) Let’s explore the future of psychotherapy. Tune in to this week’s episode and see if AI might could be the key to simplifying your Ideal Practice. ✨ ~Wendy    xoxo P.S. “Okay Wendy - THAT was interesting....!“ If that’s what you find yourself saying as you listen, would you please share a little love with a 5 star review and a few words over on Apple Podcasts or Spotify? ____________________TODAY’S GUEST: MARIA SZANDRACH Maria Szandrach is the CEO of Mentalyc, the first HIPAA-Compliant AI Note Generator software for Psychotherapists, Psychologists, and Mental Health Counselors.  She actively engages in thought leadership while advocating for ethical and responsible technology development in mental health. Her Website The Mentalyc Guide to using AI in Private Practice.  (A free resource.) Support the showWendy Pitts Reeves, LCSWHost, Ideal PracticePrivate Practice Coach and Mentorwww.WendyPittsReeves.comWendy@WendyPittsReeves.com

#94. 5 Creative Ways to Boost Practice Revenue Without Working Longer Hours
There’s more than one way to make money, my friend. But far too often in the private practice world, we’re used to providing a single service to a single client for a single hour or session, and that’s it. The problem with that is that there are only so many hours in the day, and your income is capped. But what if that wasn’t how it had to be? What if there were all kinds of fun ways you could leverage the service you already provide and the knowledge you already have in ways that serve more people, make more money for you, AND don’t take up more of your time? Yeah - let’s talk about that. #93. Legacy Work: How One Therapist Built an 8 Figure Practice That Still Feeds Her Soul
Y'all know that when I talk about what it means to have an Ideal Practice, I’m talking about building a private practice that is ideal for you. And of course, that's very different from one person to the next. But the one thing that we all have in common, is that we want to make money, good money. And we want to do so in a way that feels good, and is in alignment with who we are. That’s exactly what today’s guest, Dr. Ajita Robinson, has done. And how she’s done it is nothing short of inspiring.Ajita is a Grief and Trauma Therapist, a bestselling author, a TEDx Speaker, and an Income Strategist, along with many other achievements.More than anything, though, she’s building a true legacy of mental health care that is impacting lives across the U.S., while still having a life of her own.In this episode, you’ll hear about her journey, all the way from trauma survivor to the incredible success of building an 8 figure practice. (!)And the coolest part is that she’s doing this in a really unique way that I’ve not heard much about before: a powerful combination of smart strategic thinking, building the right relationships, and leveraging the power of contracts and grants. My hope is that this will inspire you to think differently as well. But perhaps more than anything, I want you to hear what she did once she realized she was out of alignment with her own values in what had been a really successful career. There’s a story there that you’re going to love.Isn't it funny how, when you’re being called to a certain path, the universe keeps bringing you back to it over and over and over again?  🤔Yep.In this episode, you’ll learn: Why you’re never starting from zero even if you have to start over, and that your skills are far more transferable than you realize. How she managed to diversify her income and scale her business by building the right relationships. (So dang smart.)How to serve your clients, rather than sell to them. Why you might need to give your clients what they want before you can give them what they need. The importance of doing your own inner work before you can heal others.I am SO not kidding when I tell you that you are in for a treat. And yes, I know I say that all the time, but you really are in for a treat!I can’t wait for you to hear this!~Wendy   XoxoP.S. pppsssst…Have you heard about this?I am in the middle of developing a structured mastermind specifically for advanced practice owners, and I’m wondering if that might be you. I explained what a Mastermind is and how it works in Episode 44.You might be working way too many hours, facing burnout, and looking for a better way. Or, you might be feeling pretty good about things and ready to grow, but hold back because it feels like So Much Work. You might just be tired of trying to figure out everything all by yourself.Maybe it’s time to get some help. Maybe it’s time to find your tribe.  🖤I am putting together a small cohort of practitioners for a 7 month mastermind with a purpose. #92. Understanding Your Money Story and Its Impact on Your Business Success
In last year's cohort of EVOLVE, the group coaching and mastermind that I offer once a year, we spent an entire month talking about nothing other than our relationship to money and its impact on our practice. Students later told me that this was one of the most powerful segments of their journey through the program - and I wasn't surprised. Understanding your personal money story is critical to your success in every way. So, today I want to share some of what they experienced with you. In this episode, I’m going to walk you through a series of questions to guide you as you reflect on your relationship to money. We'll explore what you’ve learned over time, what beliefs  may have been created as a result, and how this might be impacting your success today. But to make the most of this episode, you have to engage with it. What do I mean by that? I mean stop the audio after each question. Spend some time with your journal and your thoughts, your memories and your observations. You'll learn so much more from this if you actually implement what I suggest here. And then, let's rewrite those old stories for something better - something MUCH better. Give it a listen... ~Wendy     xoxoP.S.  HEADS UP, Y'ALL: If the deeper work that this kind of reflection brings appeals to you, or if you just find yourself struck by how much there is to learn as you grow your own Ideal Practice, consider joining us in this year's EVOLVE mastermind. #91. The Secret Shame Too Many Healers Carry - and How to Change It.
As a therapist, I’ve often felt like my job was to say out loud what everyone in the room was thinking but no one could say.I’ve learned over time that - as uncomfortable as that can be in the moment - it helps sooooo much to just say it out loud.Because here’s the thing. We can’t change anything if we keep hiding what’s wrong. If we’ve got a problem and we don’t tell anyone, or even worse, barely admit it to ourselves, we can’t do anything about it. Right? Not only that - we often find that a lot of other people have the very same problem - which means we’re not so crazy after all.And that same principle applies to our business. It’s no wonder that so many therapists, healers and other wellness professionals are suffering in their private practice. Most of us have little or no business training or experience. And all of us are trained to put our clients first - even if it’s to our own detriment.Add to that the fact that we are shamed for wanting to make $ at ALL, and you’ve got a recipe for burnout, disappointment and a business that is nothing like you wanted it to be.So that's what I want to talk about today. In this episode, you’ll hear not only about some of the struggles I’ve had as a private practice owner, but those that I see way too many of you suffering with as well.I think you’ll find that whatever your hidden challenges as a business owner may be, you have a lot more company than you think. But I want to change that. I don’t want you to suffer through private practice. I want you to enjoy it.So I’ve got a solution. Full disclosure: in today’s episode you’ll also hear about EVOLVE, a really special experience I’ve created that will help you feel a whole lot better about things and that I hope you’ll consider being a part of.I invite you to tune in, and just hear what I’ve got to say.Much love,~Wendy    XoxoP.S. #84. Why It May NOT Be a Great Idea to Start a Private Practice
It’s rare that anyone tells us what it really takes to run a private practice. In fact, the whole concept of business ownership may be a bit of a mystery - and that’s a sad fact. So some really gifted healers avoid opening a practice - starting a business - because the whole idea feels so intimidating to them. And yet, the world needs what they have to offer… And others dive-in wholeheartedly only to find out that the hours are long, the pay maybe not so great, and the responsibility is way more than they were ready for. This matters. Knowing what you’re getting into can help you make a better decision for sure, but it can also help you avoid - or at least understand - some of the challenges that you’re bound to face when you hang out a shingle. So let’s talk about some of the more common reasons why you might NOT want to start a practice first.Besides, it's good to know what you’re getting into, right? Of course it is. 😉~Wendy  xoxoP.S. If you’ve been in practice for a while, what would you say about this to another healer who was thinking of making the leap? #83. Cleaning Your Digital House: How to Get Your Office in Order for a Fresh Start in the New Year
Be honest with me here. :) How much time do you spend searching for files on your computer? And how often do you have to recreate documents, letters or other content for clients in your practice? Let’s face it. We live in a world where virtually everything we want, need or create is housed somewhere on our phones, tablets and computer.  But lord knows where. 🙄If you can’t find the intake form or the self-regulation handout you need when you need it, well - that’s doesn’t help you much, does it? So as part of our year-end wrap up, let’s do a little digital decluttering. Let’s clean up your digital office, and make room for the good stuff you’re going to do in 2024.In this episode you’ll hear:5 specific steps you can take to tame the digital clutter now.A simple hack for keeping the apps you use most often right at your fingertips. The one system I use in EVERY online platform that has made finding virtually everything in my business so much easier. And more. One cautionary note… If you’re a spontaneous, living-in-the-moment, deeply intuitive and creative healer, you may find yourself resisting the whole idea of ‘organizing’ your digital life. But don’t. Cleaning up your computer, and getting systems in place that make it easier for you to function, is exactly what will free up your energy to do the kind of creative work you love so much. And isn’t that what an Ideal Practice is all about? Yeah. Give it a listen.~WendyP.S. If it feels like a drag to work through the 5 steps I’ve laid out here, just pick ONE and make yourself do that sometime in the next 2 weeks. Put it on your calendar. Go to the trouble. Free up your energy - and maybe, your money too! P.P.S. If you enjoyed this episode, could you share this with a friend? That would be EVER so awesome. #81 5 Clarifying Questions to Guide Your Success in 2024
Whether you’re a planner, or someone who likes to figure things out as you go, this episode is for you. In today’s episode, I’ll share 5 clarifying questions that can help guide your success in 2024. Taking the time to think through each of them will set the stage for the work you want to do in 2024. If you’re more of a big picture kind of person, this will give you a general framework to work within for the whole year. But even better - your answers to these questions can also set the stage for specific goals you want to reach, specific strategies you might want to employ, and specific ways you want your practice to grow next year. Although the questions themselves seem simple, the answers you come up with are important. So do take the time to think about this carefully. And if you’ll send me an email, I’d love to hear what you come up with! ~WendyxoxoP.S. Don’t miss the news I shared at the end of the episode.
