Our Editor's Take

The podcast We Only LOOK Thin provides its listeners with long-term weight strategies. The hosts share their experiences with losing weight after years of failing to keep it off. They talk about habit changes, merging fitness with everyday life, body image, and more.

Although they lack a formal education, both hosts struggle with eating disorders. They understand it is a life-long battle that requires constant attention. Therefore, they're not preaching about a cure in their podcast. Instead, they talk about tricks and tips that helped them. The topics can be grim at times, like diabetes and bulimia. The couple still attempts to convey them with a sense of humor.

The podcast hosts have had trouble with their weight their entire lives. Catherine Wygal was only five years old when she began overeating. She weighed 300 pounds in college, going up and down with every new diet. Her husband and cohost, Donald Wygal, also tried every diet he could think of. In 2015, he decided he couldn't do it anymore and settled on being overweight for good. However, in 2016, Donald received a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. The doctor told Donald he might go blind or lose a limb if he continued as he was.

At that point, the couple started their weight-loss journey together. They supported each other enough to change their attitude and habits. Finally, each of them lost over 50 pounds, and they plan to keep it off. The podcast is their way to provide inspiration and motivation for others who wish to do the same.

On We Only LOOK Thin, the hosts discuss topics like how to get through the holiday season. They provide their strategies for having a good time while avoiding overeating. In other episodes, they discuss food shame, setting boundaries, and codependency. The couple is candid about their mental health issues in the hopes of making the listeners feel less alone. Their advice doesn't seek to judge, only to empower. However, this show is not a substitute for talking to a medical professional.
