More about Shivani : She is Shivani Satapathy, a 22 year old student pursuing MSc biochemistry from University of Delhi. She hails from New Delhi, India. She likes penning down her emotions as they flow. Scribbling helps to release her chain of thoughts. She loves to transform simple words into weaving beautiful verses and magical musings. Through this poem, she is going to present the struggle of a brave woman, who firm on vengeance, was the cause of the great Kurukshetra war. This poem is a critical analysis of Queen Draupadi including both positive and negative aspects of her character as a whole. Draupadi was a heroic princess of the Hindu epic of Mahabharata. One who was firm and a woman with an unbending will. She was the daughter of Drupad, the king of Panchala and the wife and queen of the five great Pandavas. Through this poem, let me take you to relive the journey of the fiery princess's never-ending ordeal and how her thunderous personality never broke down against all odds. The title of my poem is "The Impregnable Queen".

The Impregnable Queen :

Flipping through the pages of history,

dictating the saga of an uncelebrated warrior,

The impregnable Queen Draupadi from the Tale of Mahabharata,

victim of unforgettable suffering, disgrace and horror.

Springed out of holy fire in the bloom of her youth,

an unparalleled blazing beauty copper-skinned, fiery eyed with long black hair.

paragon of raging spirit, valour and virtue,

an outspoken personality who demanded to be treated fair.

Oracle foretold, sided by God,

she was born to destroy the evil and establish righteousness.

as history recalls she laid the foundation of feminism,

challenging patriarchy, refusing to be treated any less.

The Swayamvara was to choose a suitable groom for the mighty princess,

who was destined to be Prince Arjuna's bride.

yet fate had it's own game planned,

when she was mistaken for alms and had to marry other Pandava brothers alongside.

Her purity was repeatedly questioned and character was dragged down the mud.

Her ordeal seemed never ending.

complicated relationships and facing constant humiliation,

yet she stood firm, never succumbing,

never breaking.

Reading about her heroic tales left me wondering .....

Although it was never her wish,

She was told it was her ancestors' whims.

But she was the bride, she must have chosen her groom,

still she submitted to their wishes aware of the disgrace it brings.

Dusky beauty pulled by her hair and dragged down the court full of honourable men,

publicly disrobed and nobody batted an eye.

How could she believe those cowards to protect her who lost her in a treacherous game.

All they did was stand helpless with deep sigh.

Epitome of courage and strength,

she was very much capable of cutting those hands that assaulted her.

yet she chose to trust her spouses who left her to mercy of god,

while those monsters continued to mercilessly attack her honour.

Volcanic persona, capable of turning her enemies to ashes,

yet she trusted those to guard her honour who were responsible for her miserable condition.

She cursed those who molested her,

yet she forgave those who staked her and put her in that position.

She sacrificed her sons into fighting a war,

despite being aware of the deadly outcome it would bring.

She failed as a mother,

while fulfilling her duties as a queen to her king.

She could have been strong enough a
