Unfortunately, a lot of people struggle with osteoporosis and osteopenia which means I get a lot of questions about them, so in this episode of The Dr. Kinney Show, I’m diving into the topic to tell you what you need to know about this disease from a naturopathic point of view and the connection between it and your gut health.
The first thing that you have to understand about osteoporosis is that the bones are living, breathing parts of our body that are constantly changing. Their main purpose is to store calcium, so if your body is not getting enough calcium from your diet or your gut, it’s going to pull it from your bones.
As we age, if we don’t have proper absorption of calcium in the stomach, osteoporosis or osteopenia can develop. So how do we fix it? There are a number of things we look at when it comes to treating this condition. We not only look at your calcium absorption levels, but we also look at multiple other factors that could affect your ability to absorb calcium.
The good news is that there are things you can do to treat osteoporosis. Granted, they do take a longer time to take effect. It can sometimes take as long as two years. That’s why it’s so important to be consistent with your treatment.
Remember, if you’re suffering from osteoporosis, your body is actually doing what it can to protect you. Tune in to learn more about what osteoporosis and osteopenia are, treatment options, tests you can take to monitor your bones, and parasympathetic activities that you can do to help on your healing journey.
