John W. Campbell wrote the terrifying novella “Frozen Hell” or “Who Goes There?” under his pen name Don A. Stuart in 1938. Since then the book was adapted as the films Howard Hawk’s “The Thing from Another World”(1951), John Carpenter’s “The Thing (1982), and a horrible re-make of The Thing (2011). “Frozen Hell” has 45 more pages that “Who Goes There?” and is the more detailed, ultra-violent, and gory version of this Antarctic science fiction horror.
