For four generations, the notion that nightly news programs should devote up to one-quarter of their airtime to sports is taken for granted. The recently-established tradition of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team hosting the Pennsylvania State Nittany Lions on the afternoon of the national autumnal holiday continues.
