8 years ago today was the hardest day I've faced in my life. It's hard to believe I am here podcasting on the anniversary I lost the love of my life. But, God has shown me that He is Immanuel...He is God with us. And He has been with me through all my brokenness. He illuminates my life and lights up the darkest corners, even when I want to sit in them. Jesus is Immanuel for you too. Goodbyes are hard. Some of us got to tell our spouse those precious words, while others of us either didn't have the time or weren't given the opportunity to say them. Goodbye has such a finality feeling to it so I think the Italian's say it best... Arrivederci, which means, 'till we meet again'. This is where things get good! For those of us who have asked Jesus to be our Savior, we have eternity to be in heaven. It's when we focus on what lies ahead of us instead of focusing on our loss and allow God to fill us with His peace and hope that we can move forward in confidence. Figuring out who we are after our spouse dies can be a long and arduous process. There are times after they are gone that we may wonder what are we to do with our purpose or do we even have one at all! How do we get through all the anniversaries and important dates without our spouse? We have found that if we prepare for it in advance, that can help along with prayer, praise and gratitude. As a widow, it's hard sometimes to keep the faith and trust that God is in control of our lives.
