Sean Kelly of The Samples (at Boonton Coffee) - Your Next Favorite Band
Phillip and David were honored to be invited to interview Sean Kelly of The Samples IN PERSON!  This is one of their longest and strongest #favbands and were so pumped to make this a reality.  So they headed to Boonton Coffee in Boonton, NJ where Sean had performed the night before to hear all about how he famously dropped out of high school (the system actually failed him) and headed out to Boulder, CO to "find a place inside the wind" and write and play music. This is a wonderful interview filled with nuggets and stories that you might know, and some you probably never heard before (we sure didn't!).  So please take a listen and enjoy!Website: https://thesamples.com/ YouTube ChannelFacebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/thesamplesInfo on The Thunderbird!BioBest known for his tenor voice, unique guitar playing and songwriting, singer/songwriter Sean Kelly is the front man for The Samples. While attending only one year of high school, he began playing guitar and composing his own songs. After moving to Colorado in 1987 to start a band, Kelly became a fixture on local club stages as the front man for The Samples, playing original songs with a variety of rock, reggae and folk. When not touring with The Samples, he enjoys playing his songs acoustically. Kelly’s songs have been featured in various soundtracks and advertisements including "Could It Be Another Change” in the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower and in television’s Younger and in ads for MSNBC’s election coverage. With The Samples, Kelly has released twelve studio albums, several compilations, EPs and live releases. Boonton Coffee - https://www.boontoncoffee.com/Make the perfect coffee, with the perfect beans. Emily Drinker - Your Next Favorite Band
Join us as we sit down with neo-folk songstress Emily Drinker, who recently performed during our Winter WonderJam.  A Philly-native, with deep roots connected to music and the area, Emily shares stories of her early days being exposed to musical theatre and Philly Folk Fest, beginning songwriting in college and then joining a band for a run of performing on cruise ships in the Mediterranean.  Then to return home and to producing her own music - the 2017 EP Run The Race, and the 2022 album Starting to Feel.  Emily also performs live during the show - a song that is not yet complete!  (If you have an idea for the bridge, let her know!)Website: https://www.emilydrinker.com/YouTube ChannelSpotifyBandcampBioEmily Drinker is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Philadelphia. She blends folk, pop, and rock with a high-energy band and soulful 3-part harmonies through live looping. Emily has been featured by NPR Music, Philadelphia's WXPN, and played at many regional festivals including Firefly, Musikfest, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. In the summer of 2022 Emily opened for rock icon Pat Benatar, songwriting legend JD Souther, and bass virtuoso Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon’s Graceland). In addition to her busy performance schedule in Philly and its surrounding areas, Emily enjoys working as a session vocalist doing sync work for national TV shows. Most recently, Emily's band won a contest that awarded them a slot playing on the Martin Guitar Main Stage at the 60th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival in August, which was a dream come true for this rising star. Terrible Orange Things - Your Next Favorite Band
Join us for the first episode of the new year as we spend time with Donovan O'Rourke and Simon Wernovsky from Terrible Orange Things.  In addition to an amazing band name, they play some of the most raw and authentic rock music around, teeming with emotion and angst of when life is in flux, which happens at any and all ages. They've compared their sound to "an unholy blend of Goo Goo Dolls and Blink 182, with some Switchfoot and the soundtrack to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2".Website:YouTube ChannelSpotify Channel"My Beautiful" by Baby Blue Sound Collective featuring Donovan O'RourkeBioBorn in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2019, Terrible Orange Things is the brainchild of long time friends and first-time collaborators Donovan O’Rourke on bass and vocals, James Buniak on guitar, and Simon Wernovsky on drums. The band immediately set to work writing their first singles, “Alien” & “Stutter”. When it came time to reveal their music to the world the band knew that they wanted to create content that reflected their own lighthearted, comedic, and adventurous personalities and thus the Adventures of Terrible Orange Things was born. The band released the official video for “Alien” on May 1, 2019 and hit the ground running on a sci-fi adventure of their own creation, following it up with the sequel, “Stutter” in August. Shortly after beginning work recording their debut EP, “Lovely Sounds for Lonely Times” the band was forced into a year long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the band returned with their third original single and video, “Brighter” in April of 2021 and followed shortly thereafter by the full Lovely Sounds EP in December. After a handful of shows in 2022 and the release a new cover video for Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”, the band has taken a step back for live performances to begin work on a new sound for their follow up EP, “Why Don’t You Make Like a Tree and Grow”, to be released in 2023.Thank you to Carver Commodore, argonaut&wasp, and Blair Crimmins for allowing us to use their music in the show open and close.
