Our Editor's Take

The Threedom podcast shares silly and fun conversations between three comedians and friends. The hosts are Lauren Lapkus, Scott Aukerman, and Paul F. Tompkins. Lapkus is an actress, writer, and improviser. She's best known for winning a SAG award for her role on Orange Is the New Black. Aukerman is a writer and performer behind the award-winning series Between Two Ferns. He also created the comedy series Comedy Bang Bang: The Podcast! Actor and comedian Tompkins starred in Bajillion Dollar Propertie$.

Podcast listeners shouldn't expect serious conversations when these three get together. These best friends discuss everything from childhood stories to cinema etiquette. The episode titles show the random nature of their discussions, from "Kiss My Grits!" to "Zig Zig Says Bro Bro." They talk about what they're watching, things that frustrate them, and strange fears. It's a show where they aren't playing characters, so they are very much themselves.

The team shares listener voicemails and plays games called "threetures." In the episode "The Power of DJs," they play a game called "No More Jockeys." Someone starts by naming a well known person. The following person then cannot name someone in the same category. If someone says "Kanye West," they state "No More Rappers," and no one can name another rapper. It's a simple, fun game that podcast listeners can play with friends.

In "Threevisiting: The Threedom Challenge," they rank their favorite M&Ms amongst much debate. Aukerman talks about discussing dating with his parents. Is it OK if someone doesn't remember the names of everyone they dated? The podcast hosts move on to playing a game of "Switch It and Pitch It." It's a threeture in which someone names a TV show. The host pitching has to say the title using the opposite of every word. For example, Family Matters might be "Inessential Strangers." They must pitch this new show and sing its theme tune.

The Threedom podcast combines fun discussions and debates with games along the way. It's a random mix of pop culture with relatable conversations everyone has with friends. New episodes arrive Tuesdays.
