Astronomica

Team Meatbag

Welcome to Astronomica, a science fiction OSR actual play podcast using the Stars Without Number RPG system. Join Star Master Stan and regular players Colin, Cullen, Geoff, and Kristen as they crew the definitely-not-piloted-by-a-rogue-AI ship The Admiral Grace. From encounters with magnificent space whales to battling intergalactic corporate scumbags, there is nothing this crew can't make way more complicated than it needs to be. Tag along every Wednesday and listen in as we learn that the true friends were the ones you decompressed and maybe accidentally spaced along the way.

Ep 5: Don't Be a Total Party Kill, Man
Now that Mackie has his best bow tie all clipped on and everything the crew is ready to call back Anton's ex and attend a swanky underwater affair at La Casa Del Hombre Elegante. Anton repeatedly tries to explain the difference between an invite to party and an invite to A party while Hilde tries to figure out how to fit in. Meanwhile, Mackie is on the hunt for the buffet table as Hopper tries frantically to keep him from accidental harm. The whole event heats up when the crew discovers an impromptu hockey game taking place in the Casa's art gallery complete with terra cotta warrior goalies and priceless objets de'art in peril. Will Mackie's quick thinking distract Hilde long enough to keep her from picking a fight over these priceless artifacts? Ep 6: Fine Art Appreciation and Other Contact Sports
With Mackie on the run from Hilde, Anton finally gets a moment to himself. Unfortunately, that moment very quickly descends into either a futuristic hockey game or an all out brawl, possibly both! A call from upstairs yanks the crew back on track as they continue to work out just why exactly the mysterious Mr. Cho got them to Aegea. Finally, Starmaster Stan and the cast get a little silly with a special message for the holiday. This week we want to wish everyone in the US a very happy Thanksgiving (and all of our other listeners a very happy last Wednesday/Thursday  of November)! We hope you all are finding ways to celebrate (yes, even if you're just celebrating that it's Wednesday/Thursday) and enjoy friends and family as much as possible in this strange year.If you enjoy the show, please follow us on your favorite platform for new episodes every Wednesday. Ep 11: Chatstronomica
This week we're taking a little break from our narrative to bring you A Very Special Episode. No, it's not about peer pressure but we do talk about why everyone should be playing Stars Without Number (come on, all the cool kids are doing it) plus dish on answers to all the behind the scenes questions we assume you want to know! Why is Hilde such a fantastic and assertive team member? How come Mackie has the strength and dexterity of a 19 year old football player and, well, the intelligence of a 19 year old football player who keeps forgetting to wear a helmet? And why is Cullen always hoping Anton will just die already? Find out answers to some of these questions and more in our first ever discussion-based episode of Astronomica. PS: A brand new episode of Astronomica narrative next week, and (in Anton's voice) that's our guar-on-tee If you enjoy the show, please follow us on your favorite platform for new episodes every Wednesday. Ep 12: Whitelist Our Galaxy for Premium Content
After narrowly escaping a swarm of murder drones, the Admiral Grace once again succumbs to the sweet, sweet oblivion of hyperdrive. Meanwhile, her very good boy Mackie shows a surprising level of deceit when he recruits the rest of team meatbag to hide a rogue AI in hopes of selling it for a truly righteous payday. Nothing particularly interesting happens until the team hits the Glazier system - that hive of corporate slime and franchisery - and remembers why intergalactic ad blockers are a necessity. Oh well, at least Apogee Station has a decent mall with all things a rag tag crew could ever need. Good thing those murder droids totally didn't follow Gracie after all, right guys?If you enjoy the show, please follow us on your favorite platform for new episodes every Wednesday. Ep 16: In Space No One Can Hear You Steal Corporate Secrets
Hoping to offload a few of those hungry Apogee Station refugees, the crew of the Admiral Grace answers a call from an incoming corporate vessel. It seems their moral pangs have more or less sorted themselves out as everyone decides pretty quickly that negotiating with shady business dudes is just about the best way to move things along. To that end, Anton and Mackie pull a mini-heist on a potential spy for the Loc Xi De corporation. They liberate a high tech data pad which Hilde immediately plans to use for her own devices. Meanwhile, attempts to negotiate for refugee removal hit a wall as coms go dead. Is the ship being jammed? Did the mysterious powers from the Apogee attack catch up with our heroes? And who is that dude jumping out of the other ship and trying to board the Grace? If you enjoy the show, please follow us on your favorite platform for new episodes every Wednesday.
