For this episode of Brewstilled, it’s the first episode a segment called Bad Keg in where we examine events in sports that went wrong. A bad keg event involves sporting event combined with alcohol that ended in disaster. For this first episode, I’ll be discussing the story of 10 Cent Beer Night, a baseball promotion that went badly in the city of Cleveland. The promo was held on June 4th in a game between the Cleveland Indians and the Texas Rangers. The promo involved beer priced at 10 cents with no limits. It was supposed to be a promo to increase fan attendance and to lift the spirits of the Cleveland fanbase, but the promo ended in disaster as it resulted in a full-scale drunken riot when fans charged onto the field resulting in a full-scale brawl. I’ll be discussing 10 Cent Beer Night and its lasting legacy in baseball lore in the first edition of Bad Keg. It’s all here on Brewstilled.
