An American Expat's Kiwi Adventure: Story Time of Relocating and Thriving in New Zealand
In this episode of Adventure Calls, you'll hear American expat Elissa Johnsen in her own words, as she narrates through her incredible journey of relocating with her family to New Zealand during COVID, offering an inspiring firsthand account of embracing change and creating a new life abroad.Elissa  is a Maryland native turned New Zealander who embarked on a life-altering journey two years ago with her close-knit family. She and her husband, together with their three young children, who at the time were roughly six, a toddler and a one-month old —left the familiarity of their United States home for a bit of an adventure  in the lush landscapes of New Zealand.Initially only for a year or two, the family set their roots roots a bit south of Auckland in the picturesque city of Tauranga, and Elissa and her family embraced the diverse culture and stunning environment of their adopted country. After spending two years assimilating and growing as a unit amidst Tauranga's coastal charm, Elissa and her  family decided they had no intention of returning to the United States, and made the vibrant capital city of Wellington their home. Elissa's journey represents a unique blend of adventure and family, showcasing her courage and commitment to providing a rich life full of experiences for her children. Now settled in Wellington, she continues to navigate the rewards and challenges of life abroad with grace and determination.Below are the key takeaways from this episode:Elissa Johnsen, an American expat living in New Zealand, shared her journey of relocating with her family and working as a nurse in New Zealand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to move to New Zealand was driven by the desire for a better, less stressful environment for their family, particularly for their children, and the opportunities for their careers.Elissa highlighted the significant differences in the healthcare system and societal environment between the United States and New Zealand, emphasizing the reduced stress and anxiety she experienced living in New Zealand. The importance of downsizing and preparation for moving abroad was underscored as Elissa shared her experience of moving with children and the support she found in the expat community.Elissa's TikTok account, KiwiFroyo, not only documents her family's life in New Zealand but also serves as a platform to share insights and advice with those interested in a similar move.Find Jessica Drucker online:Website: www.jessicadrucker.comCoaching: www.jessicadrucker.com/coachingHow To Move Abroad Book: www.jessicadrucker.com/bookInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/rainbowreloFind Elissa online:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kiwifroyo

The leap from a small town Michigan to a life in Denmark, with Career Consultant Kate Dahl
Everyone seems to be talking about remote work and moving abroad. Is it really so easy? In some countries it is! In others, like Denmark, it's not so simple. In Denmark, life is good. Really good. Danes report an exceptionally high level of satisfaction with work-life balance, food, culture and quality of life in general. Foreigners who live here also report higher satisfaction in Denmark over their home countries, but they also have a hard time truly feeling accepted and settled in. In this episode, we hear from Career Consultant Kate Dahl, an American who has lived in Denmark for five years.  After spending nearly seven years in neighboring Germany, Kate took the leap for love and moved to Denmark with her now husband. After realizing the challenges that expats were having in their international job search, she set up her career consultancy to help international job seekers find and secure  jobs in Denmark.Find Kate DahlCompany website: Career Denmark www.careerdenmark.dk LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/careerconsultant4internationals Find Jessica DruckerThe Adventure Calls podcast explores the Art + Science around taking big risks and creating a life filled with Adventure.  Host Jess Drucker is a queer expat coach and consultant who helps LGBTQ+ folks move, live and thrive abroad. Website: www.jessicadrucker.comCoaching: www.jessicadrucker.com/coachingHow To Move Abroad Book: www.jessicadrucker.com/book2022 Global Relocation Guide:  www.jessicadrucker.com/guideInstagram:  https://www.instagram.com/jessicadruckerLinkinbio: https://linktr.ee/jessicavdrucker*Get Your Free Move Abroad Checklist at www.jessicadrucker.com/checklist*Episode Sponsors:Stay safe abroad and get 10% off at HelpYouFind.Me at https://helpyoufind.me/adventurecalls

On Leaving Los Angeles and Finding Fame in Mexico, with Cafe Con Leche Travels
One year ago, Travis came home to his Los Angeles apartment after a run and said to his partner, David, "Let's get out of here." David is a singer and Travis is a writer / standup comic, and the two entertainers had lost most gigs due to the pandemic. Despite having only ever traveled abroad once, David was more ready than ever to get out the US, and so the pair moved to Mexico. But then Travis convinced David to something even bolder than moving abroad... they officially became YouTubers! And thank goodness that they did. David and Travis are known online as Cafe Con Leche Travels, and they are a queer, interracial, vegan couple who feel safe, seen and definitely 'satisfecho' (full of yummy vegan food) in Mexico. This interview reveals just how possible it is to live a happy life abroad, as long as you take the leap, and what an amazing country Mexico is to live in and discover! Until that move, she had an international career in Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark. She was responsible for arranging the whole move on her own: she spent a day of apartment hunting driving on the wrong side of the road, and after relocating, she had problems figuring out her cell phone, Wi-Fi provider, and had to hang up on a utility company because she couldn’t understand a bill collector’s thick Scottish accent. Even the most experienced expats need a helping hand, which is why Sylvie founded Simply London to work with expats relocating to the capital and surrounding home counties.Simply London works with expats coming on their own, with a family or with their company. The team she has built focuses on areas of expertise including home search services, school search services, settling-in services, move coordination services, visa application services, tax advice, intercultural coaching, language services, and more.Find Sylvie onlineOn Instagram: www.instagram.com/simply_london Website: https://simplylondonrelocation.com Find Jess DruckerOn Instagram: www.instagram.com/jessicavdruckerOn Twitter: https://twitter.com/jessicavdruckerOn Facebook: www.facebook.com/jessicavdruckerExpat Life Coaching: https://jessicadrucker.com/coachingHow To Move Abroad Book: https://jessicadrucker.com/bookAbout Adventure CallsAdventure Calls is the podcast that helps you live your biggest dreams by listening to your inner voice, finding your dream team, and following  your call to adventure.
