Stars Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Natasha Lyonne, and Tara Reid. In American Pie 2, the characters are back home after their first year of college. After a labored extended opening retreading much of the first film (they eat at the same restaurant! they have another party where something gross happens to Stifler!), things loosen up a big when they go to a summer house for a continuous hang out. Especially memorable is a walkie talkie debacle which reaches almost Austin Powers levels of lunacy as everyone from the police to fast food workers can hear the awkward hijinks being broadcast in crystal clarity. Shannon Elizabeth and Alyson Hannigan are given a bit more to do here with a love triangle of sorts, although Thomas Ian Nicholas becomes more of an oversight despite kicking off the plot to begin with ("we've got to have one last summer together"). American Pie is responsible for kicking off a new R-rated sex comedy craze not seen since Revenge of the Nerds over a decade prior. Paul Weitz's (About a Boy, Little Fockers) directorial debut stars a mixture of fresh-faced actors (Jason Biggs, Shannon Elizabeth, Sean William Scott) and seasoned former child actors (Alyson Hannigan, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas) in a somewhat raunchy tale of high school romance. At times annoying, cheesy, and funny, American Pie takes viewers back to when the Internet was a novelty and sex crimes were punchlines. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but anchoring it all is an uncool yet heartfelt performance from SCTV alum Eugene Levy as Jim's Dad. Starring Billy Burke, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart. Old vampires fight new vampires and some of them laugh silly and some of them can make leaves float. Showing a momentum much of the series lacked, Breaking Dawn Part 2 shows the ancient Volturi planning an assault against the Cullens and their friends in order to get their hands on Bella and Edward's human-vampire hybrid child. There's some fun and absurdity at the start, and even a nice battle scene with notes of Lord of the Rings near the end. A bit long in the tooth, but so is the whole Twilight franchise. Bella is pregnant with a human vampire hybrid. A rather elegiac entry, Breaking Dawn Part 1 finally has Bella and Edward getting married. During their honeymoon, she becomes pregnant with a human vampire hybrid to deadly and gruesome results. Much like the first Twilight film, this feels more like a romance than anything else. Slow paced with somewhat effective body horror at the end, Breaking Dawn Part 1 feels like a chapter expanded into a novel. Makeup is especially good here (a gaunt Kristen Stewart is a bit too convincing). There's not much drama to be had beyond the core characters. One of the worst in the Twlight Saga. Starring Rupert Grint, Evanna Lynch, Daniel Radcliffe, Alan Rickman, and Emma Watson. Harry Potter is expelled from Hogwarts and joins a secret society to try and stop Lord Voldemort's return. More of a legal thriller than one might suspect, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix cuts down the longest book in the series to a lean (by Harry Potter standards) 138 minutes. Imelda Staunton is especially good as the stubborn teacher Dolores Umbridge. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight Saga. Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart. A sulking teenager and a sulking werewolf have to sleep with each other to keep them warm.  Mortal enemies werewolves and vampires decide to form an alliance against an impending army of newborn vampires. While the last film felt like it had some momentum towards the end of the inevitable marriage of Edward and Bella, yet again the story feels stretched out with side stories until a promise of what everyone has been waiting is yet to come. There are some humorous moments between Edward and Jacob, but other than the sudden intense nature of some of the violence, there's precious little to latch onto here. Starring Anna Kendrick, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart. A sulking teenager goes to Italy and sulks with very old vampires. As the title implies, New Moon focuses on the third wheel of the Twilight Saga, Jacob (Taylor Lautner). To prep for his werewolf role in the film, he had to put on several pounds of muscle or else be recast. Lautner was up to the challenge, but his easy-going acting style doesn't match up to the high anxiety and/or mumblings of the rest of the cast. Much of the motion picture drags until the climax in Italy. Michael Sheen is a particular delight as the vampire leader Aro putting in a gleeful performance that somehow makes even his eyebrows campy. After being transported to Los Angeles, the titular moose and squirrel travel across country to stop a rogue TV station from hypnotizing the populace into a stupor. Starring Jason Alexander, Robert De Niro, Janeane Garofalo, and Rene Russo. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle uses the tired trope of taking cartoon characters and putting them in the "real world". Who Framed Roger Rabbit this is not. The banter between Rocky (Keith Scott) and Bullwinkle (June Foray) works, but the pacing is not great. There's a love interest subplot that's not needed, the cameos aren't AAA level like in The Muppet Movie, and the plot is lacking stakes until the end. There are some good lines here and there, but the whole movie just lays there like a moose on the couch. Starring Brendan Fraser, Eric Idle, Alfred Molina, and Sarah Jessica Parker.  From the writer and director of Police Academy, Dudley Do-Right is a live-action adaptation of the Jay Ward cartoon aimed at a very young audience. Brendan Fraser and Sarah Jessica Parker are very sincere in the leads, but Alfred Molina steals the show with his over-the-top faithful portrayal of Snidely Whiplash. It's an inoffensive movie at best dragged down by a plot with no real stakes until the end.
