A Journey Through Poetry: Week 2

A Journey Through Poetry: Week 2
I feel torn by this my dear How can you feel so far yet so near? How can you make me feel so deeply Then have me in the depths of Confusion where I can’t seem to figure out our road? Because when I ask my heart it seems to know That you’re 'The One' That you’re the person I want to love until this life is done I want to know Are you going to continue to run? Or will you see what I see? Will we find each other in joy and harmony? Or is this a dream that stays confined to the deepest parts inside of me? It scares me to think I’ll never experience looking into those eyes Telling you "I love you" Feeling alive with your body touching mine It scares me to think of living with this for my whole life Without you by my side So what now? When I feel the confusion taking over Have I got to get over everything from the very start? Or do I let you go? And trust that in your heart, soon you’ll also know That this love is here to stay Is here for us to grow together each day Is here to guide the way back to a Truth We have forgotten to remember That this ember cannot die with time Because it was before time that it was even created A time, somehow, we both awaited for Even in moments it felt so unsure I knew to keep a faith in what I felt so sure of That just because it seemed illogical To the logic of physical reality I now refuse to let anything sway the knowing in me The knowing there was something more I now feel ready to believe That our love is more than words can begin to conceive So, I choose to allow the confusion in And yet I know it can never win Because the knowing from within is too strong For the part of me that feels I could be wrong Instead I choose to trust To go beyond stories that I’m told I should adjust my feelings to make room for No, I choose to take the door of uncertainty Of how it feels to lean fully into a love without guarantee Without knowing how far I could fall I follow this call Because I believe I am worthy to experience it all So my love I’ll wait for you on the other side Of the fears, protection the need to hide And hold space for you to start To see yourself through my eyes So that we can begin a new ever-expanding journey Of both truly, feeling alive. That is poem number 19 in the second verse of my book, 44: A Journey Through Poetry. When I read this poem, I think of the intentions when I wrote it. I wrote it for somebody, a man, that when I wrote this book, I really, really felt so much love for. I actually dedicated the book to him. It's really funny as I read now to see how that love has evolved and also to see how I was, very much, talking about myself. I was projecting this kind of half of myself onto another and trying very hard to bring those two things together. I was witnessing myself in this phase of separation, as if saying to myself, I want to believe in you, but I'm too scared to believe. It was this phase where I was very backwards and forwards between trust and doubt. I was wondering how I could reach this future self I felt? How do I get to the place I feel inside? I think there's a lot of that created in our society because we have an idea of linear time. We have this idea that from here to there, I need to do X, Y, and Z and I need to get somewhere. I need to make it. Sometimes we apply that concept and that approach to ourselves as well. This need to reach that point where we have everything together and we’re fully healed. This was kind of how it was with the love for myself. I felt it was somewhere I needed to reach, that there were things I needed to do to attain that love for self. Something that now I've realised, is that we learn about ourselves and we understand ourselves through separation and through isolation. But, we do it as if all the pieces are jumbled up and then we bring them together and I think for me now it's more about starting with the whole, this whole body and I get to learn about how the mind speaks to me and how the heart speaks to me but they're all one already, they're not separate things we need to see separately and then bring back together.I see it's the same with this future self I was capturing through this poem, this me that I was calling in or this life that I felt, at a young age, was far away. Recognising now that she was always with me. She was always guiding me, because she is me. She wasn't anywhere I needed to reach or anything I needed to become and there wasn’t something I needed to improve on or get better at to be with her. I always was her, it was just a matter of experiencing life and journeying through life to allow more and more of all of who I am to emerge. Would it really be that fun if we just landed on this planet and we were in total remembrance straight away? It’s the journey of it we enjoy, we get to experience. This poem has a strong theme of division and this fighting between these two versions of myself and the question, how do I reach this state of unconditional love? That can be seen with oneself, but also, through the lense of relationship. Was I going to continue to see that man as separate from me or that, at core level, he is me? (That’s not to say that we're all the same when we say we’re all one, rather that we're all unique individual expressions of the one) So what am I fighting about that’s within him, that I'm fighting about within myself? What am I not wanting to see in this person that I'm not wanting to see in myself? What am I fighting with, that’s asking for acceptance? I think when we have this conflict within about ourselves or others it's an invitation for us to look at what that conflict is bringing up in us rather than projecting that out onto the other.I really hoped you enjoyed the reading and listening of this poem. I truly feel this book is so beautiful and so accessible. In the hardback, there are blank pages after each poem called, ‘a page for you to share your soul’, where you can write about what came up for you as you read each poem. I think is a really great thing to have in a book because as you're listening or as you're reading, you can begin to find your own interpretations and your own answers.Thank you so much, for listening or reading. I'll be back next Sunday for Week 3 reading another poem from 44 Journey Through Poetry. If you want to purchase this book and support my work, you can go to the link here.with love,EmmaP.s. On a side note, speaking to you in Feb 2024, I’ve just finished writing my second book, Uncomfortably, Beautifully Human. A collection of 222 poems over two and a half years. The words are the residue of the emotions, thoughts, experiences and observations of my human experience. These poems, although written by my hand and through the lens of my experiences, are not my poems or words, but mirrors, moments in time for whatever you may need to receive, as you read.I’m currently looking for the right publisher, or agent who connects deeply with my work and would like to partner with me for the publishing journey of this book. If you feel a resonance and have any idea of the person/company that might be ‘the one’, or you have any tips for the publishing journey, please reach out to me by email emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com. A Journey Through Poetry: Week 1
*please note, there is potentially triggering content with references to themes of suicide and emotional trauma in this article/email, which some individuals may find distressing. Please ensure that you feel safe to continue reading. If you recognise that you need support after reading this article, please reach out to someone that you trust. Mind are a great UK based support network for people experiencing mental health, as are NAMI, for my readers based in the US. If you're not sure where to start, you can also reach out to me via email emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com and I can help point you in the right direction. "These words on paper are an overflow of pure emotion, a mirror held up to the beautiful and perhaps less desirable parts of us. A candid expression of the human experience. This poetry tells a story that, as you read, you realise you have lived too. The writing invites reflection which we all need a little room for in our lives. Thank you, Emma, for your vulnerability." I received this quote from a dear friend, Sofia, as she read my book before I self-published. I loved it so much that I used it as the blurb. My intention for creating this mini-series for the next (probably) 4 weeks, reading a few poems from the book, is to invite you into your own exploration of what it means to be human. I'll read the poem, provide the context for it's creation and then share my own reflections on it as I read it years later. The questions I ask myself in this reflection are... 'how have I changed?' 'how am I still the same?' 'what is the wisdom I've gained?' I also invite you to share in the comments or by email emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com what the listening of this poem brought up for you. If you haven't already you can join us for this series by subscribing for free below. You'll also benefit from a growing space where I share weekly thoughts from my heart, meditations and more heart-opening poetry. My intention is to continue to expand this space in a way that nourishes the reader and listener, whilst following my own intuition on what feels good. I want this to be an environment where you feel no expectations to do anything, other than to feel what surfaces for you as you connect with the words that are shared. Uncomfortably, Beautifully Human is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.I’ve captured the poem and my reflections below, which you can read if you prefer to engage with this content by reading over watching the video. This feels so f*****g hard I feel all the pain in my heart I feel lost in the words in my mind created in a time when I could easily disguise Now it all comes to the surface I'm starting to regress to the part of my journey where I felt so lonely where I felt so lost Like I couldn't breathe Yes, I remember that version of me where running was all that she could do to survive Where hiding was all she could do to feel safe in this life to repress everything that suffocated her that cut her deep like a knife Where all those tears she had in her eyes And all she could do was pretend to be fine. This poem is number 12 in my book 44: A Journey Through Poetry, which you can purchase here. As I read back this poem, I'm also going through this chapter and transition in my life now where there's this feeling of like, it's difficult. It's hard, but there's not that heaviness that I used to carry. So it's really a moment to see not only my growth, but also this compassion for the one, that version of myself that just was so, so lost and so, so afraid of everything and whatever would happen it would be this need to get away, to avoid, to run. At this phase, it feels more like a need to hold on tightly.I must have wrote this 3/4 years ago, when I was reflecting on the version of myself aged 16-18. It’s funny now to read it back and see this pattern and how it has played out in different phases of my life. How sometimes it would be to run and other times to hold tightly.I'm starting to regress to the part of my journey where I felt so lonely where I felt so lostI think we can all relate to these lines. We have moments on our journey where we naturally return to old habits, behaviours and ways of being. I think what this is showing us is how that version of ourselves is still present within us, and is asking to receive space to be heard and compassion to feel loved, not by the things we were running away from or chasing after, but from ourselves. Whilst I’ve been staying at my family home where I grew up, I’ve been focusing a lot on my inner child. The child that grew up here and, although had a good upbringing, felt really misunderstood, and emotionally suppressed. As I contemplate more on the line “I’m starting to regress to the part of my journey”, it’s a reminder that ways of being and behaviours from our past do resurface and asks the question, how can we open up with compassion to them when they do, instead of pushing them away? How is this inquiry actually a step forward, rather than a step backwards?I called this poem '‘when it feels so f*****g hard’, and you’ll notice as you read my book, that a lot of the poems from this time include swear words. I liked to use them to express both frustration and excitement. I feel it keeps my work un-filtered, and in this particular poem, really emphasises my inner frustration. I actually went back through my journals the other day, and came across one of the first ones I wrote in when I began obsessively journaling every detail of my life around 5 years ago (all destined to be another book one day) and this was what I read “spent a few days crying, exhausted - couldn’t get out of bed - sducidal thoughts”. It was a huge moment of love to see how taking that time to invest in myself and how I see the world, has helped me grow so much and to see how writing was a huge catalyst for that. I’m someone who’s always questioning my intention and reflecting on how I show up in the world. I want to treat others how I’d wanted to be treated myself. In my opinion, this involves going into, as Carl Jung would say, my shadow and my unconscious patterns and thoughts. I identified a lot of those through the process of writing. There’s definitely this archetype of the emotionally struggling writer or poet and we see this as a weakness. My invitation to anyone who does struggle emotionally, mentally or in life in general, is to see this as a source of empowerment. Use writing not only to capture how you’re feeling, but also as a way to witness yourself by reading what’s emerged onto the page. Get curious about what you’ve wrote. Ask questions about it. Explore where it’s coming from. This is a great tool for cultivating self-awareness, compassion and love. There’s a lot of emphasis around being the best version of ourselves but, through writing, I think we can learn to embrace the full continuum of being human, see the gifts in our challenges and find the tools that most support us to participate and navigate this experience. As I read the last lines of this poem againwhere all those tears she had in her eyes and all she could do was pretend to be fine I felt reminded of another one of my intentions with poetry, to show people you’re not alone, to open up a discussion around topics we struggle to speak about. Topics that bring up shame and fears of rejection. Everything I do holds the intention to create space for people to be fully seen, heard and understood in all that they are. I’d love for you to share what came up for you as you listened/read. As I’ve learnt with poetry, the poet writes about their experiences or experiences they observe, but the reader receives what they need to through the reading or listening of those words. To me, 44: A Journey Through Poetry, really captured the poems from my younger years, and invites you to explore and reflect on your own (I actually include journaling pages in the book for you to do this). I’ll be reading more poems from my book each Sunday morning with you and I do hope you’ll join me and connect with us in the comments and in our chat to speak about what each poem brings up for you. Vulnerability with ourselves and one another is, in my opinion, one of the things that truly help us grow and connect. with love,Emma Get full access to Uncomfortably, Beautifully Human at uncomfortablybeautifullyhuman.substack.com/subscribe

Sunday Morning Thoughts: Trusting Yourself

Sunday Morning Thoughts: Trusting Yourself
As you read/listen, I invite you not to take my words as truth, but to trust your own interpretation of them. Feel free to share with me in the comments your own experiences and realisations, because all of our unique ways of seeing are valid. In a world where we’re told to look for answers through other people, through systems, through what your best friend said, your parents told you growing up or the general societal conventions of the times we live in, it can be seriously scary to trust yourself, to trust the wisdom that resides within you, that resides within all of us. Emma Evelyn is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. To me, the truth that flows through each of us is unique. The image I always get is of a puzzle, where we are all a unique piece of that puzzle, and it’s in being that unique piece that we can begin to see, understand and function as a whole. This is when we stop seeing ourselves as separate, and at the same time, see the value in our differences. At the same time, it’s important to refer to the other pieces in the puzzle in order to determine exactly where one piece fits, just as it’s equally important to refer to the truths that others share with us, to connect, refine, gain a deeper understanding and deeper clarity when remembering our own wisdom. Both are needed. Based on my experience, it’s when we make what is outside of us (the words, actions, dreams, beliefs etc. of others) as our source or destination, that we can find ourselves in conflict with ourselves because we’re overriding our own wisdom. We’re trying hard to be a different piece of the puzzle, or reject the existence of the puzzle entirely. This has been a very subtle realisation in my own life, where decisions have arose from the wisdom of others, rather than my own. Why do we do this? There’s many reasons, for me it was a need to prove myself, thinking that what I had to offer wasn’t enough. I’d worked with many coaches and therapists throughout my life that I unconsciously had outsourced my wisdom. Rather than listen to their words with curiosity, with the ability to not take on what I felt wasn’t for me to hear, I made their words my own, I became a copy of their puzzle piece rather than my own, I moulded myself to be seen as, what I thought, would be more acceptable in their eyes. The funny thing was, the way back wasn’t trying to fix or change how I felt, but in allowing myself to fully go into all of the pain that I felt from forgetting and neglecting my own wisdom. The pain I felt from trying to be someone else other than all that I am and the gifts that arise from my unique ways of seeing the world. If something in you resonates with this, I can only speak from my experience and say that whilst it’s important to surround yourself with the guidance and space of those that you trust, do this on the foundations of first learning about who you uniquely are. Know the intricacies and the value of your puzzle piece. Use these foundations to explore the world with curiosity, and continually return to what’s inside to determine what’s for you and what isn’t. Get to know the unique way your body, mind, heart and gut speak to you. Understand your unique cycles of both human and spirit. Use nature as your first reference point. Practice and know that whatever you’re feeling and experiencing right now is okay. There is no destination in life except to return back to where we came from, so in my eyes, the greatest gift we can offer to ourselves is to begin to remember and practice trusting the way that we want to experience each moment that we receive in this beautiful life. With love, EmmaPhoto by Vardan Papikyan on UnsplashEmma Evelyn is a reader-supported publication. Returning To Your True Nature: An Exciting Opportunity for Industry Leaders

Returning To Your True Nature: An Exciting Opportunity for Industry Leaders
"If you don’t or do believe in magic and want to learn more about where things come from, I would definitely recommend a session with Emma."-Sarah Devries, Community ManagerYour Invitation To An Exciting Partnership for CEOs, Corporate & Industry Leaders , Business Owners and Creative Entrepreneurs…I'm Emma, a Thought Partner, Mentor, Author, Wellness Practitioner, and so much more. For a long time, I made the work I do 'wrong' because I wasn't your traditional coach. I tried on many shoes that didn't fit. I've come to realise that what I can offer you and your business is something different that, if I'm honest, I still find difficult to put into words. My work is something that you come to understand through experience (*if you want to experience a taster of this work first hand, you can follow along with one of my simple guided meditations by clicking here).*Testimonial: Drew Stockton, Founder of MAS HealthAfter taking three months away from working with clients, I've used this time to create an opportunity closer to my heart. I am now looking to partner with a company, CEO, or entrepreneur who considers themselves a change-maker in their industry. If this is you, I'd love to invite you to continue reading or listening to this article, to decide whether this opportunity resonates with you and then schedule your free 1 hour connection and curiosity session, so that you can experience this work first hand, connect with me and learn more about this partnership before committing. The clients I've worked with through my 1:1 mentorship don't partner with me because they see me as their key to success. Sure, that may be your initial intention, but I'm not here to show you the way, save you, or tell you what to do. What I offer is a space of empowerment. A space where individuals feel safe to let go of their masks, having their s**t together, and their perceptions about who they think they are. They feel seen, heard, and understood as they can share what's truly on their mind and heart without the fear of judgement or rejection. They come to remember and witness everything that makes them unique, what strengths they forgot they had, and make their most challenging emotions their greatest allies. I've witnessed firsthand how this is the foundation for intentional and inspired action that will create ripple effects, not only in your business but in the personal lives of you and your team members. If you're a visionary, then this is about changing the way we conduct business. It's about seeing individuals as human beings and creating the space for them to feel empowered and supported in the work that they do. I believe your business and your life aren't separate because it's the opposite of what we've been taught: "Go to work, make enough money, support the lifestyle you want to have"… even if that includes burning yourself out, doing something you don't really love or building a business at the expense of the wellbeing of those around you.Choosing a new way is a process, not a quick-fix. But what I'm about as a thought partner and mentor is compounded growth over time. How those little steps we take each day to work with what's present, choosing to honour our unique guidance and path (because this is not a one-size-fits-all approach). This is what truly creates a life and builds a business consciously and intentionally.*Testimonial: Andreea Mondan, Business Coach and Founder of Garden of Eve GatheringsIn my experience, when we take steps from the heart, we naturally flow between the different areas of our personal and work lives. Instead of noticing how they are separate, we begin to see how they all support and serve each other. We show up in work as we would in life—with true integrity. We start to see that when we give ourselves the time to connect and thrive more in our lives, we get to connect and thrive more in work. We see that when we take the time we need to rest and rejuvenate, everything we create and build is anchored in the foundation of intention. We, and everyone around us, experience more ease and clarity. Is this partnership right for me? This opportunity is available for 1 company and we’ll start mid September. The partnership includes 33 hours per month of calls on Zoom (in-person is available in Ibiza, or abroad at additional costs) you can use these calls for yourself, for team members within your business or with stakeholders. We’ll have an initial 1 hour set-up call where we’ll discuss a strategy for the next 11 months. You and your team will also have weekly access to me via Slack (Monday-Thursday). All partnerships are for 1 year (11 months of calls) and the investment is €3,300 per month. This investment is made monthly, with the first payment due 1 week before we begin. If you’re curious to explore this partnership in more detail, you can schedule a free 1 hour connection and curiosity call with me where, firstly, you’ll experience my work firsthand with a challenge that you’re currently experiencing for 30 minutes. We’ll then spend the next 15 minutes reflecting on what came up for you, and then the final 15 minutes discussing the pricing and next steps of a year long partnership with myself. That way, even if you’re not ready to commit, you’ll receive a huge amount of value in our time together. If this opportunity doesn’t call to you, but you know someone who would be the perfect fit for this opportunity, please send them this link or ask them to reach out to me personally at emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com.In the words of a couple of my previous clients…"Emma provided a 1:1 session to coach me with struggles I had about where to life and to get me new insights about grounding. With her method (which I’ve never experienced before) I could dive in deep with the personal guidance of Emma. Not only mentally but also physically I felt where my needs are and with the right questionary I could get to the core of it all. The insight Emma gave me is still on my mind everyday and reminds me that I’m on the right track. Emma is a very pleasant person to talk to, a great listener and someone that really can create and hold a safe space so you feel comfortable to tell your story. Emma, thanks again for your great work & hope to reunite soon!"–Nuray Kursun, Casting Agency Business Owner"I want to say that the most incredible way of finding Emma was through her podcast, the podcast allowed me to see into her world, the way she talks and her energy. #89 Expressing Yourself More & Developing Your Self Talk with Varun
In this episode of Limitless, Varun Gandhi shares his own journey of connecting with himself and how that has shaped how he now shows up in the world. We share about topics around self-expression, self-confidence and the power of following your own unique path. If you enjoyed this episode, take a screenshot of the episode to post in your stories and tag me. Don’t forget to follow, rate and review the podcast, i'd love to hear your key takeaways!EnjoyMuch love!Meet Varun! After going through a heartbreak and a career change, I was lost. Life had kicked and knocked me down. I was turned around. I had no direction in life. I was drifting in life from one thing to another. I’d start many projects, but due to a lack of confidence in myself, when things got hard I would quit; I wouldn't finish anything. This depleted my energy and with time, I silently hated my life with a smile on my face. My life always had a destination - a graduation, a job, a title, a marriage. Drifting through life without a concern for anything beyond my life, focused on the next achievement with blinders on. That’s where sitting with myself, giving myself space to express itself helped me dive deeper. When I awoke from my deep slumber, I came to understand the power of stories in our lives. Every moment, we create stories - your mom is a story created in you, your spouse is an accumulation of stories, your ability to accomplish is a story. We repeat these stories through our inner dialogue - self-talk. With this newfound awareness of stories, I boosted my confidence, I launched several conscious brands, spoke at national events, and host a podcast/YT show called What’s Your Story for South Asians. This is a journey from passing through life to a passion for life. Early in the pandemic, we mobilized resources to provide more than 8,000 households - especially those affected worst by the shutting of businesses and loss of jobs - with basic supplies for the home. We continue to feed 1500-2000 people every Sunday and recently crossed 150,000 meals over 18 months. On Thanksgiving 2022, I intend on feeding 100,000 vegan meals throughout the nation.  This is the power of storytelling and how it changed my life. Guest Links:https://www.instagram.com/drvarungandhi/https://www.linkedin.com/in/drvarungandhi/https://www.drvarungandhi.com/To learn more about working 1:1 with Emma visit https://calendly.com/emmaevelyncampbell/introductory-coaching-experience Emma Evelyn Campbell is an Energy Healer, Poet & Mentor, who works with CEOs, Artists, Creatives & Industry Change-makers, supporting them with emotional connection & release so that they can feel fulfilled and take intuitive-led action.
