Our Community: Finding Your Support
This episode shares stories from bereaved parents and handles the subject of baby loss, bereavement and grief. In this episode Caroline and Jen speak to David, Tanya and Peter about the range of support available to anyone affected by pregnancy or a baby loss, from support groups to Sands Choirs and Sands United. They discuss the way in which communities are created around pregnancy and baby loss, and the butterfly effect of support and awareness that grows as a result. David is bereaved father to daughter Rachel, and talks about the healing nature of time, the way in which he remembers Rachel through his incredible fundraising challenge, #CycleForRachel, and the incredible and supportive community that grew around him. Tanya lost her son Isaac and speaks about the range of emotions she felt, and how the intensity of emotions change over time. She shares how important it is to raise awareness of baby loss, to say Isaac’s name, and how her community rallies around to support her during fundraising and the global Wave of Light. Peter lost his son Thomas, and shares how he spends time with Thomas and keeps his memory alive by playing football through Sands United. His kit has Thomas’ name under his SUFC badge and Peter plays as squad number 27 – a significant number for him and Thomas. --- Useful links To donate to David’s fundraising, visit justgiving.com/team/cycleforrachel To find out how to take part in your own fundraising for Sands, visit our fundraising pageTo learn more about Sands United, visit https://sands.org.uk/get-involved/sands-united-fc To learn more about Baby Loss Awareness Week and the global Wave of Light, visit www.babyloss-awareness.org ---- Sands is here to support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby, whenever and however they need it.
