Our Editor's Take

RUNWITHALLI LIVE host Coach Alli shares a podcast for all runners and aspiring runners. On the show, Alli talks with running professionals and amateur runners. She also interviews sources in the world of running from trainers to nutritionists.

In one episode, Alli talks with Dr. Michael Yessis, a training expert. He is a repeat guest on RUNWITHALLI LIVE. She begins one episode by asking Michael how a runner should prepare for a marathon. He recommends paying attention to how their feet hit the ground. Some runners’ legs go forward, some backward, and some remain stationary. He emphasizes that technique is a vital part of training for runners.

Alli chats on the podcast with food writer and runner Shikha Kaiwar. They talk about her managing a quad injury and training for a race. They agree about the value of patience and consistency. Alli, who coached Shikha, believes in a holistic approach to running. This includes physical, mental, and emotional aspects. After an injury Shikha switched her routine to shorter, less intense training sessions. She says it felt strange at first, but she was able to appreciate the new regimen.

Fellow coach Denise and Alli discuss the Chicago Marathon and why it’s unique. Much of what they discuss relates to the energy of the crowd and the spectators. They liken this energy to electricity. This sense of support and celebration is powerful within the running community. In another podcast episode, Alli talks to 1964 Boston Marathon fifth-place finisher Hal Higdon. The two connect about the value of generosity among runners. He is grateful for the level of notoriety he’s achieved.

RUNWITHALLI LIVE is a spirited and motivational podcast. Most episodes are between 20 and 50 minutes long.

In today's episode, we briefly discuss her journey to success. Mary is an overall superstar, and I enjoy working with her as my run coach. During our chat, we talked about training, coaching, lessons learned, and her career in training. She is one of the hardest-working individuals I know in the sport, and she's just getting started. EPISODE 132: Kristy Baumann, Registered Dietitian from St. Paul, Minnesota, and 12x marathon runner, Joins Me For A Discussion on Fueling for Running Performance
Kristy Baumann is a Registered Dietitian from St. Paul, Minnesota, a 12x marathon runner, wife and mom to a 2 and 5 year old. She helps runners learn how to fuel properly to support their training and have a healthy relationship with food. For years, she thought she was fueling well as a runner. But, found herself feeling sluggish on runs, having headaches and nausea after long runs, and experienced stomach issues and muscle cramps on race day. She was focused on becoming “fat adapted”, always trying to manage her weight to run faster, and followed food rules. Food was constantly on her mind and she had a big sweet tooth. These were all signs of underfueling that resulted in recurring injuries and a poor relationship with food. It wasn't until she began to change her mindset around food, understand the science of nutrition and how the body works that she was able to learn to fuel properly, feel more energized and improve her running. Now, she is on a mission to spread the message that restricting food and following fad diets is not the answer. Having a positive relationship with food is the foundation of fueling well as a runner. I had such a fun time chatting with Kristy on the show, and I look forward to sharing the excellent advice, wisdom, and expertise discussed in this show with the world! You can follow her on IG @marathon.nutritionist.Website: https://www.marathonnutritionist.com/Don't forget to head to Apple Podcasts here to support the show and tap the "+Follow" button! I'm your host, Coach Alli, and I'm here to guide you on this journey to help you reach your fitness goals.Today's episode of 'Ask Alli' takes a turn after viewing the rerun of the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and recapping the race, learnings, and takeaways for all of us to apply to our running training! I share my biggest takeaways and lessons for ALL of us to apply to our runs, to stay process-oriented, and to learn to love the journey, not the outcome of one race. There are some wins to celebrate! Congratulations to three women who made the Olympic Team: Fiona O'Keeffe Wins The U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in her First-Ever Marathon, followed by Emily Sisson and Dakotah Lindwurm. And to two men, brothers, and training partners with guaranteed spots on the men's Olympic Team, too! Conner Mantz ran 2:07:48 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon, and Clayton Young tallied a time of 2:08:00 in Chicago.I am so happy and proud of all of us, of our sport. Hettas Founder Lindsay Housman Joins Me For A Chat, sharing her high-performance, technical running shoes made for women to reach their full potential in sport and beyond.Lindsay first reached out to me to share her new product and has given me, along with many female athletes I coach and some friends, the opportunity to test the groundbreaking shoe brand made for women by women! During today's episode, Lindsay shares how Hettas was created, which started when her daughters were told they were "too small" to join a competitive ski team. Lindsay worked on leveraging her connections in the industry, getting a grant, and beginning to fund research solely focused on female athletes. By doing so, Lindsay and her team have built a product to create better, more personalized experiences that all female runners deserve. Hettas has a vision to create products for women tailored to our physiology, biomechanics, and even hormonal cycles. A unisex foot doesn't exist, and Hettas brings the science backing the shoe's design to the forefront and how women can benefit from the product and Hettas brand. There are three versions, the Alma Cruise, Alma Tempo, and Alma Speed, that all have the same fit same VeloPropulsion system, but with different foam firmnesses to fine-tune your shoe lineup.
