209: How Tik Tok Saved A Mom From Disaster with Melissa Lea Hughes
Melissa talks about the struggles and difficult circumstances that she went through during the real, adverse event that impacted all of us, the COVID crisis, and how she was able to work through all of it and eventually turned her life around through the power of social media. Dr. Miller and Melissa will also talk about many other things such as family, faith, and about being a mother. Melissa lost her job after the pandemic started. Her family just moved into their new home from living overseas and she needed a job to get the house. Fortunately, there was one job that was available for her, and it was working in childcare. She was very grateful for that job because she was able to buy the house with her husband with its help. However, during that time she realized that she didn’t really have a plan. And as much as she loved children, she didn’t really want to work in childcare since she’d rather be home with her own two children.  She tried to figure out what to do with her life in a completely new direction. It was a scary spot for her to be in. She sympathized with everyone else that felt the same thing during the pandemic. She just tried to think and pray about what her next step would be and what her life is going to look like moving forward. After some time of thinking and prayer, what she did was write down a list of what she would really want in a job. And then in January 2021, she felt that God was really pushing her to go on social media and start posting videos.  She talked to her husband about it and they both asked God that if this is something she should give her time to, can he please make it clear to them and then five days later, Melissa uploaded a video on TikTok which eventually generated 22 million views and landed her a spot on the Kelly Clarkson show. Melissa believes that God has a plan for everybody. That he’s got good things in store for everyone. Episode 209 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who’s feeling stuck with their current state in life and has given up on everything. Being in a tight spot like that is one of the scariest and most challenging feelings in the world. So you must never give up hope and continue to fight for a better life. It’s okay to be not okay. And if you need a guide to help you then somehow, some way, God will eventually provide you with an answer. All you have to do is ask.  “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  Website: ( ( ( ( ( ( (

207: Resolving Childhood Trauma with The Power of A Love That Heals with Danielle Bernock
Danielle Bernock is Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 207 of “The Beyond Adversity Podcast.” Danielle talks about childhood trauma and how you can get through it. In her personal experience, she is a survivor of multiple childhood traumas. She dismissed these traumas because she thought they were not bad enough because she was not sexually molested, hadn’t been through a natural disaster, or had a major traumatic event in her childhood. She compared all the trauma she has been through to things that are massive in scale, which is why she dismissed them as nothing. She grew up in a very authoritarian home. Whenever she had emotions, all she did was keep them inside her. Her parents did not help with this which is why she concluded that this form of the trauma she had is called childhood emotional neglect.  Bullying was also one of the traumas she went through. She was not born Danielle Bernock. She legally changed her name in 1988. Her trauma was associated with her old name. One of the events that affected her entire life was a public humiliation she suffered in front of the entire church. However, she eventually intervened and through many processes, she was healed of all the trauma she had. She also suffered a lot of death while growing up. Her grandmother, her father, her older brother, and a close friend in high school all died in a 4–5-year period, which added to the neglect she felt at home and the bullying she had in church, among other things. Danielle had a warrior mindset even though she was a highly sensitive person. She decided that she is not going to live like she was at the time. She had the drive to want to heal, be different, and change. A turning point in her life was when she went on a road trip with a friend, and she discovered her love for God. Episode 207 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who’s been through trauma and has considered giving up. Receiving love and loving yourself are keys to a fulfilled life. It might be hard but struggling and never giving up will take you a long way in life. All you have to do is fight. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  Website: ( ( ( ( (

206: Recovering From A Financially Devastating Divorce Through Alternative Investments With Chris Odegard
Chris Odegard is Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 206 of “The Beyond Adversity Podcast.” Chris grew up in a family of employees like most people. All he knew was that you went to school, you go to college, you get a job and then work and hopefully you get a pension by the end. That’s all he did in his life until he went through a divorce with a 19-year marriage and lost 55% of his assets because of it. He changed the way he invested his money and moved away from conventional investments like stocks, bonds and mutual funds to investments that are not publicly traded. Nine years later, he made back the assets he lost and multiplied it many times over. Because of this, he never had to work for anybody ever again. Chris believes that yes, money can’t buy you happiness but neither can poverty. Having money makes a lot of things easier for you. That life is so much easier with it than without it. It’s not the money itself that is loved but the things it can do for yourself, your family, and your community. He also believes in a study that up to a certain point and amount, money increases your quality of life and happiness but once you go beyond that point then there is no correlation anymore. One time, his friend Bill told him about a book that he should read. It was “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. It took him a long time before he started reading it but when he did, he was inspired to change how invested. Because of that, he went to a free seminar of Robert Kiyosaki’s company. His car won’t start when he was trying to go but he managed to find a way to go anyway. By finding a car rental company that would drop a car off. He was really motivated to go to the seminar which is why he did that. He always thinks about how if he was still married, he wouldn’t be where he is now. Because his wife would always talk him down on things he wanted to do. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Episode 206 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must listen for anyone who’s trying to invest while going through adversity, whether it’s depression, a divorce, a massive debt, etc. You should not give up hope just because of a few bumps along the road. Persevering towards your dreams regardless of adversity is key to having a happy and hopeful life. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  Website: ( ( ( ( (

204: “PAIN TO PURPOSE TO PASSION” with Charlene Madden
She is a speaker, empowerment coach, and author. She is a passionate promoter of life purpose, mental health survival and mindset mastery. She also facilitates and hosts the Ignite Your Life BC Workshops. Charlene has suffered from a dysfunctional family since childhood. Her father was a violent alcoholic and as a result, her mother left them, leaving Charlene and her sister behind. Eventually, they were taken in by her maternal grandparents. Her grandmother inspired her to be independent and educated. Unfortunately, they were both secretly sexually abused by their grandfather and when her sister suffered a nervous breakdown in school because of it, her grandfather was arrested and was divorced by their grandmother.  Charlene never received any proper counseling after what happened and when she was in high school, she was having depression and was cutting herself. She eventually learned how to cope with it through writing. However, her writing style was noticed by her teacher, and she had to go through a psychological evaluation where she was diagnosed with Bipolar Manic Depressive Disorder.  When she became an adult and had children, she unfortunately also turned to alcohol and was having suicidal thoughts. Eventually, she left her family because she thought she was unfit to be a mother. She, later on, had a relationship with another person who was having mental health problems and got physically abused by him. Eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore and tried to commit suicide. While doing it, she had an epiphany and was, fortunately, able to get herself to a hospital. Unfortunately, after that, she was still suicidal and planned to shoot herself before getting herself into a workshop where speeches from people who went through a lot inspired her to do things for others too and learn to appreciate and love herself more. Episode 204 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is for those people who have been suffering or suffered through family problems, sexual abuse, alcoholism, depression, and suicidal thoughts. This episode discusses how one can deal with past traumas such as having an alcoholic parent and sexual abuse in a very wholesome way: by helping others who are going or went through horrible experiences in their lives. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  (  ( ) Facebook – Charlene Anne Madden: ( – Ignite Your Life: ( (

The first one is for the victims of abuse, in hopes to let them know that they are not alone. The second one is for the people who can’t relate to abuse, those who judge people and their stories. This is to let them know how hard the experience is, and how hard it is to come forward with what happened. Lastly is for everyone, especially those people who are currently struggling to connect with God. Amy wants the people to know that these problems may have occurred, but it does not mean that God left us to suffer in pain. It wasn’t God that did this to you.   Amy Nordhues was a victim of abuse. She approached a therapist in hopes to recover from the abuse, depression, and issues with parenting and marriage. However, her therapist took advantage of her weaknesses and manipulated her to fit into his narrative.  She didn’t know what to do at first. She was so confused, not knowing what to do. She experienced doubts, especially about God.  Thankfully, she was able to fight her abuser. She was able to ask for help from others. She was able to speak up and tell the truth. She stood up and fought against her abuser.  Episode 203 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is for those people who experienced abuse. This is for you to know that you are not alone.
