Queen P is passionate about writing poetry because it is a liberating experience. Furthermore, she purposely writes verses to persuade her audience to think about where they are in life today, reflect on days gone by, realize how much they have grown over time, and recognize the importance of self-awareness and true happiness. Moreover, Queen P reminds us through her work that her journey has taken her to countless places not only in the physical sense but also in a spiritual and emotional odyssey. During her trek, she has mastered the skilled significance of being “still”, listening and observation, and now she is excited about whatever adventures are in store. The Journey Continues! Find more of Queen P: Instagram: @queenppoetry123 Facebook: @queenppoetry Facebook: Pauline Atkinson Website: www.queenppoetry.com Website: beacons.ai/queenppoetry A statement from Queen P: "I was asked to write and read the poem Mother and Daughter in the summer of 2019 for a special event for young black girls that were being mentored and trained to become active workers with building up their communities. I felt that I had a responsibility (being a mother of two daughters) to share my memories of my daughters, and spread words of wisdom and encouragement through my poetry. My hope was that the words would resonate with the young ladies as well as their mothers. There’s no greater bond than that of a mother and her daughter." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time’s mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity. 318 - “Alliance” by Vanessa Vu317 - “Me and CP” by Benen Dykstra316 - “Back in Illinois” by Nancy Hays & The Heffernans
Nancy Hays is a singer/songwriter originally from central Illinois, who has recorded five albums and made five tours of the UK with her original country music. Nancy also opened for country icons including Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, Glen Campbell and many others. Nancy's maternal roots were rural farmers from the Midwest. Nancy's best friend growing up was one of nine children from a large farm family. Between performances on the road with her band, Nancy would visit her best friend, Connie Wise. Back in Illinois was written about her fond memories of times spent on the Wise farm and also her thoughts of home, especially when far away. Many years later, three of Nancy's four children began performing with her under the name Nancy Hays & The Heffernans (Nancy's husband is Sean Heffernan). Nancy's other son, Eddie, creates the family music videos. Nancy decided to record Back in Illinois, with her extended family. Matthew plays fiddle and sings harmony and daughters Mary and Caroline provide harmony vocals. The song made its radio debut on iHeart Radio in 2019. It is produced by Nashville based producer, Randy Gardner. It really made me reflect back on both the good and bad times that I had growing up and made me realize just how far I had come from being a scared, confused little girl to a very strong and resilient woman, who will always advocate for others to let it be known that the chains of trauma can be broken. I have felt a prompting from my higher power to let my story unfold as a way to cast a light on others so they may find their own value in their identity as I have by letting them know they are not alone." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time’s mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity. What story do we want to tell: The narrative of a girl moving through life and experiences that eventually take her out of her head and into spoken word. The lyrics express this idea that we can only trust and live presently - being true to the moment and finding peace in the not knowing of what’s to come, allows for this transformative release of any anxiety and worry. Ultimately, making room for gratitude. 307 - “It Happens In Life Sometimes” by Daria Shigaeva
Daria Shigaeva is a professional performer, creator, and wellness coach. Find more of Daria: Instagram: @darishen A Statement from Daria: "In April 2021 I made a trip to one of the remote areas of my country, rich in mountains. As I consider hiking my best way of meditation, it was inevitable that I took one for half of the day. I've found that all of the situations I was facing with in the mountains can correspond to real-life situations. And so, impatiently enough, all of these insights that popped out in my mind during the walk I put down on the paper afterwards, thinking to create some form of art from these notes and to share it with others. I love searching not obvious meanings of things, and I love to go deeper with them. This “hiking story” consists of 8 different situations, all of which will ultimately be interpreted into 8 different takeaways (life messages). And what I wish for listeners to do – is to “pause” after or to re-listen each of them, so they have enough time to definitely take them in." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time’s mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity. I used to be a person who was full of doubt, and fear, and pessimism. Although I have dreams and aspirations, I always had a negative mindset on achieving those things I wanted. So I questioned myself, how do I become a different person who actually believes I will fulfill things in life and use my faith. What am I lacking? It was hope. To me, hope is like the color yellow, because it represents optimism and wishing, praying, and trusting for a certain outcome. I learned that hope opens your mind to the world and too yourself." 304 - “Wheels” by Freda Yifan Jing303 - “Touring a Nuclear Reactor” by Donald Beagle
Written by Donald Beagle. Read by Jenny Curtis. Donald Beagle is a 66 year old poet, and for the past 20 years, a professor and Library Director at Belmont Abbey College near Charlotte NC. “Poetry, to me,” comments Donald, “remains the most challenging of literary endeavors, because of its immediacy in the present moment, paired with its sense of timelessness. I grew up in a place so rural that my formal education began in one of the last one-room schools in Michigan, with 35 students, grades one through six. It ended with my graduate degree at the University of Michigan, then with 35,000 students. Between those extremes were studies at the California Institute of the Arts, followed by my BA at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. I learned from wonderful mentors and teachers; such as a course with linguists Noam Chomsky, Morris Halle, and Samuel Jay Keyser, where I learned metrical theory based on their book, The Sound Pattern of English. And I’ve been fortunate to win some awards along the way, including the Major Hopwood Award for Graduate Poetry at the University of Michigan, and 40 years later, the Gail O’Day Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry from Wake Forest University." Donald Beagle’s poem “Touring a Nuclear Reactor” appeared in the 2019 anthology, The Hopwood Poets Revisited: Eighteen Major Award Winners. “This poem grew from a real life experience in my teens,” comments Donald, “when my father was invited to tour a newly built reactor in southern Michigan, and I came along. Back then, this was advanced technology that some people found inspiring while others were fearful. My poem explores these polarities; the line of tourists becomes a sort of pilgrimage through a holy yet mysterious place, “tall as a cathedral,” where humanity assumes almost godlike power; tampering with matter to unleash awesome energy. At the same time, a metaphysical fear also lurks under the poem’s narrative, from the threat of terrorism to the cooling tower shaped like an hourglass, as if counting down the hours until some unforeseen disaster.” Find more of Donald: Website: https://www.amazon.com/Donald-Robert-Beagle/e/B001JRWTI4?ref_=dbs_p_pbk_r00_abau_000000 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time’s mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity. 302 - “The Butterfly” by Pari Meg
Pari Meg is a strong girl trying to inspire others. From the horrid experiences she went through nothing could stop her. Nothing can hurt her. She is a college student trying to make it big and make a name for herself. Whether it’s through film or art, she wants to be remembered. And she wants to help others any way she can. She is based in California. Find more of Pari: Instagram/Snapchat: @parisa_meghdadi Tiktok: @pari_meg A Statement from Pari: "When I was ten years old, I spent a lot of my time in the hospital. Thinking in my head, I wish I could just die. My right hand doesn’t work, my speech is gone. What’s the point. Because of the tragic experience, I now have PTSD, depression, and anxiety. And it’s still hard to this day. I try to go one day at a time and try not to over think. I have good days. I have bad days. But I never give up. My own father tried to commit suicide and after that experience there’s no way I would do anything like that. Life is hard, but never give up. I recently lost all of my money in my bank account and I’m really stressed out. But I’m trying to go one day at a time. I created this piece to show others to never lose hope. It will get better. And I’ll always be there if anyone wants to talk. I have been through a lot in my life. The hospital, losing my home, my father, just all the bad luck. I will stop nothing to never give up. I want to inspire everyone. I don’t want to worry about anything in my life, whether it’s financials or pain. I want people to know my name. Yes, not everyone is going to love me and that’s okay. If I can help at least one person and make them laugh, I know I’ve done my job." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time’s mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity.
