Since 1972 Podcast

Jacqueline Nagle

From our infant cries to the moment we first discover our words, we know exactly how to get what we want. Relentless and confident, we were born to get what we want. But we grow ‘up’ and got convinced through experience that maybe we don’t know how to get it, let alone deserve it. Processed through experience, science, and grounded theories and delivered through powerful stories, Since 1972 is a series of conversations within business, life, high performance sports, and charitable organizations about how we can start believing in that inner voice once again and reclaim the narrative that we had it all along within us to get what we truly want. read less

On Resilience And Empowering Victims Of Domestic Violence With Kelli Martin | Episode 2
In the second episode of Since 1972, I am honoured to talk with Kelli Martin, a talented and respected solicitor, business leader and social justice advocate. She has worked predominantly in family and criminal law and is a member of the not-for-profit Red Rose Foundation, which actively works to end domestic and family violence. In this profoundly moving and emotional podcast, Kelli talks about her experience as a lawyer constantly exposed to the trauma and abuses that her clients go through. Despite developing PTSD brought about by her work, she continues to help her clients break the cycle of violence that has entrapped them. She's a strong and inspiring woman, and I just know that you'll also be just as moved as I was when I talked to her. In 2020, Kelli was named Partner of the Year – SME at Lawyers Weekly's Women in Law Awards and also won the ''Business Achiever'' Award in the Greater Brisbane Women in Business Awards. Have a listen to her powerful story and know what it means to raise your voice not to shout but to have a voice for people that can't be heard.Connect with Kelli Martin:LinkedinKLM SolicitorsWebsiteFacebookInstagramLinkedinSHOW NOTES:00:00 Podcast Intro00:26 Guest Intro02:29 Kelli Martin's journey03:49 How she set out on her own to open a family law firm06:03 Recalling what inspired her to start KLM Solicitors06:30 "We look after the client first, so we're very a very family-focused firm."07:28 "I'm a firm believer in social justice and the ability to access legal advice, so I do offer legal aid."08:00 Regarding the establishment of effective working relationships with clients and their staff09:11 On understanding the importance of empathy and the ability to share her story with clients09:40 How she copes with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and her  divorce11:06 "I have a lot of I've got a passion for helping people through really difficult times."12:33 The gratifying reward for assisting others through some of their worst moments.13:34 On teaching young solicitors how to deal with people's anxiety, depression, and stress00:15 On embracing Kelli's PTSD and sharing her story with others17:00 How their profession can make them go through a traumatic experience00:19 There is a need for increased support for family and criminal defence attorneys00:24 Why having a supportive family is so crucial to one's well-being.28:12 How the murder of Hannah Clarke affected Kelli in a personal way00:30 "I raise my voice not to shout, but to have a voice for people that can't be heard00:32 Kelli's proudest professional accomplishment00:36 What is Kelli's superpower00:42 Kelli discusses the Red Rose Foundation00:48 Rapid-fire questions00:48 Parting thoughts

Creating A Global Social Impact Movement with Simon Doble | Episode 1
In this debut episode of Since 1972, I am excited to share my conversation with Simon Doble, an inventor and distinguished social impact entrepreneur whose humanitarian work I deeply admire. He is the founder and CEO of SolarBuddy, an organisation that has provided solar lights to children living in energy poverty. His work has touched more than 650,000 lives in 18 countries to date! This episode is a peek at Simon’s journey in raising global awareness and designing solar light solutions to communities who are living in energy poverty - a social issue that has just surfaced thanks to Simon’s passion for solving it for good. This episode is a “map” for people with advocacies that are way bigger than themselves. Get inspired by this powerful interview and be spurred to action by the resolve and courage of Simon to eventually gift 6 million solar lights to children by 2030.Connect with Simon Doble:Simon DobleWebsiteFacebookInstagramLinkedinSolarBuddy WebsiteFacebookInstagramLinkedinSHOW NOTES:0:00 Podcast Intro00:24 Guest Intro - Simon Doble03:56 The spark that prompted Simon to take the step and ignite SolarBuddy04:36 Why Energy Poverty Is the Worst Kind of Poverty - a Time magazine article that inspired SolarBuddy05:41 On being an innovator and searching for a divine purpose06:53 How adults grasped the concept and impact of SolarBuddy09:08 "What would happen if we were all brave enough to be a little bit more ambitious."09:25 What took Simon to get out of his comfort zone  and be brave enough10:52 The biggest challenges and greatest learnings that Simon faced in his journey12:44 How people's knowledge of energy poverty creates momentum for SolarBuddy14:21 On the impact of charities15:56 Simon's superpower16:55 How learning from people helped Simon be more courageous18:10 Simon's kryptonite20:28 On influencing people21:57 "When it comes to making it through something, it all starts with a high impact point."22:30 On remaining true to himself23:04 "It's not about me, it's not about my team, it's not about SolarBuddy, it's about the children that we work for."24:05 Simon's self-reflection and alone time25:35 On cutting ties with toxic people and surrounding with the right inner circle27:27 How leaving England took his business to another level28:44 On challenging his team on a daily basis30:29 Pondering on his first presentation in Muscat and Oman - a memorable speaking engagement35:58: Rapid-fire questions35:37 On taking the first step37:03 "Every day is a learning experience and new  opportunity"37:46 His advice on finding your purpose39:24 Simon's childhood hero41:46 Parting thoughts
