Healing Childhood Trauma - A Practice to Help You Become Aware of Your Needs

Healing Childhood Trauma - A Practice to Help You Become Aware of Your Needs
This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Honoring our needs and desires after experiencing childhood trauma is crucial to the healing journey, yet it often isn’t something that’s talked about. When we grow up in an environment of chaos, dysfunction or abuse, we get the message, often many times over years, that our needs don't matter. So as a means of survival, we disconnect from being able to recognize or voice our authentic needs and desires. But carrying that into adulthood and numbing ourselves to our needs and desires? That sets us up for a life of feeling unworthy and undeserving of having those needs met. It perpetuates the deep pain and meaning we took on from those childhood experiences. In this episode, I'll share a practice to help you gain more awareness. When we can acknowledge our needs and desires, even the ones that seem unreasonable or wildly impossible, we start rewiring those beliefs about unworthiness. Don’t want to wait for the next episode? Healing Childhood Trauma - Navigating Relationships as a Survivor
This episode originally aired on YouTube. The links mentioned are further down in the description Navigating relationships when you’ve been hurt by someone is… interesting. It can be virtually impossible to trust in what a healthy relationship is. This can lead to overcompensating in an unhealthy relationship or running at the first sign of something other than bliss. Neither of which are healthy or going to help you have the type of relationship(s) you deserve. The truth is, ALL meaningful relationships require work - even the healthiest ones. Disagreements, misunderstandings, and difficulties are normal and are not necessarily signs of an unhealthy relationship. In today’s video, I talk about how how our wounding affects how we view our relationships. I'll share real-life examples of how seemingly small issues like chores or spending habits can trigger core vulnerabilities rooted in past experiences. I'll share tips on how to build self-awareness around your emotional triggers so you can communicate vulnerably with your partner and find compromises that work for both of you. Ending Shame: Conversations about Sex, Shame, and Sexual Abuse

Ending Shame: Conversations about Sex, Shame, and Sexual Abuse
This episode originally aired on YouTube. The links mentioned are further down in the description For too long, we've lived in a society where there is silence and secrecy around sex, sexuality and sexual abuse. It’s time (well actually, long overdue) for us to end the silence so we can end the shame and stigma. In today’s episode, I talk about about the challenges and benefits of having these conversations, some of the issues that might come up around it, and why we need more open, honest conversations (even the awkward ones) to finally end the shame so many survivors carry. I'll share how that deep-rooted shame and stigma impacts everything from our survivor experience; difficulty in sexual relationships; parents struggling with how to talk to their children around these issues; and people questioning their desires as they age. No matter what generation you’re from, this conversation is for you. The more we get comfortable getting uncomfortable and vulnerable, the more we can change toxic societal expectations and even change the incidence of future sexual abuse. Join the conversation. Share anything that came to mind as you watched.  Maybe consider sharing this episode if you’d like to join the movement to end the shame we’ve carried far too long. What Helps Survivors Feel Supported After Disclosing Childhood Trauma?

What Helps Survivors Feel Supported After Disclosing Childhood Trauma?
This episode originally aired on YouTube. The link mentioned is further down in the description. When a trauma survivor confides in you by sharing their experience or story, how you respond can deeply impact their healing journey. With compassion and understanding, disclosure conversations present an incredible healing opportunity. However, even when very well-intentioned. we can unknowingly invalidate survivors’ experiences which can hinder their healing and even reinforce responsibility and shame. In this episode, I talk about how to authentically and sensitively respond when a childhood trauma survivor discloses their experiences to you. I also share tips on how to validate and support the survivor after a disclosure, as well as tips for survivors on managing expectations and practicing self-care during this vulnerable time. Whether you might receive a disclosure or are considering sharing your own story, I would love to hear your thoughts.  How was your experience? Do you agree or disagree with anything I said? Why Conventional Gratitude Practices May Not Work and How to Make Them More Meaningful
This episode originally aired on YouTube. The link mentioned is further down in the description. A gratitude practice is commonly recommended to help with mental and emotional well-being. However, like many things we often hear about as a route to healing, it has the potential to create more difficulty or struggle. If you resonate with the idea of using gratitude as a healing practice and maybe have struggled at times with implementing it, this episode is for you. In today’s episode, I talk about the nuances of gratitude, exploring why the conventional approaches may not work and how an intentional gratitude practice can be a powerful tool in your healing journey. Remember, it's not just about going through the motions of practicing gratitude; it's about finding a genuine connection to those moments that truly matter (it’s not about the big things). I'd love to hear your thoughts on gratitude. How Journaling Unlocks Your Healing Potential

How Journaling Unlocks Your Healing Potential
This episode originally aired on YouTube. The links mentioned are further down in the description. I believe journaling can be one of the most important practices on the journey of healing childhood trauma. So much so that I’ve created a few different forms of guided journals for individuals and within in my groups as prompts. Links for additional journals below. Journaling, for me, is about connecting with what's present in our thoughts, bodies, and the inner world that subconsciously, or even unconsciously directs everything. It's a powerful tool for self-awareness, a crucial step in the healing journey. In today’s episode I discuss how to use journaling for healing and the potential challenges and resistance that may arise, including possibly feeling exposed or struggling to express thoughts are common hurdles. And why it’s important to practice navigating through the struggles and any resistance. I'd love to hear your thoughts on journaling. Is it something you embrace or feel a bit resistant toward? Share your experiences in the comments below. If you do journal, how has it been helpful along the journey?
