Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Led by the Spirit (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)
On March 19, Pastor Jeff McLain brought our Lent Series to an end. For the final week of this series, we looked at what it means to be Led by the Spirit. A significant aspect of the Temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4:1-11, in addition to the three seductions, is a glimpse at what it means to live led by the Spirit of God.Throughout the Lent Season, we will be looking at how this world and evil both long to undermine confidence in our identity in Jesus by getting us to doubt God's provision, God's protection, and God's promises. Those doubts are planted in our lives by temptations of appetite (Lust of the Flesh), affirmation (Pride of Life), and ambition (Lust of the Eyes).River Corner Church is a growing church community of everyday people who gather to worship God, follow Jesus, and journey through life together. Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Ambitions (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)
On March 12, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the third of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Ambition. In this passage, we saw how the why behind our ambition is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's promises. When we are insecure in our true identity, we will live into false identities, and develop ambitions to provide success for ourselves. If we lose our identity in Jesus, we lose out on what God has for us to experience.Throughout the Lent Season, we will be looking at how this world and evil both long to undermine confidence in our identity in Jesus by getting us to doubt God's provision, God's protection, and God's promises. Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Need for Affirmation (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)
On March 5, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the second of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Affirmation. In this passage, we saw how the need for affirmation is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's protection. When we are insecure in our true identity, we will live into false identities, and seek the affirmations of others. If we lose our identity in Jesus, we lose out on what God has for us to experience.Throughout the Lent Season, we will be looking at how this world and evil both long to undermine confidence in our identity in Jesus by getting us to doubt God's provision, God's protection, and God's promises. Appetite, Affirmation, and Ambition: Inventorying Our Appetite (Lent, Matthew 4:1-11)
On February 26, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at the first of the three seductions in Matthew 4:1-11, the temptation of Appetite. In this passage, we saw how appetite is one of the ways that we are tempted to question God's provision, and we are lured to take matters and provision in our own hands, which ultimately will undermine our identity in God. Through the power of God’s blood and Spirit, we can overcome our appetites that unhelpfully seduce us into doubting that God will provide for us.Throughout the Lent Season, we will be looking at how this world and evil both long to undermine confidence in our identity in Jesus by getting us to doubt God's provision, God's protection, and God's promises.
