Security was called. The police came in to evaluate and take the information on the issue. Supervisors were there. Liz told everyone about the incident when she could finally speak. One of Tracy’s jobs was working on safety and quality for patients and employees. Healthcare workers get assaulted frequently and it was mentioned that a survey was done that showed 70-80% of nurses alone get assaulted by patients, patients' families, and even their friends. Tracy spoke about the incident reports and how important they are to get data. Doing an incident report after being assaulted or threatened is a valuable tool. Having electronic charts make it easier to write incident reports. Having incident reports and documenting the threat and assault will only help to stop the violence.

Today My guest was Amy Smith she is a registered nurse, for 25 years, she worked during the pandemic, stayed with a co-worker so she wouldn’t get her family sick with covid for months.  Last November 2021 she resigned from the hospital she worked at.  Amy's new story is Life after Nursing. When she was asked why she left her job, her response was, she wasn’t giving the care she signed up for.! My guest today is Joanne, a nurse that was assaulted 7 years ago. We discussed her assault and how she was pushed by a woman that was having a panic attack.  From that push, she experienced severe pain, and using ice didn’t help. When she was seen by the Physician and had the correct treatment she was told that push or shove dislocated the hardware that was in her shoulder from a skiing accident years ago.  Causing severe pain. She would need further surgery.We also discussed PTSD and going for therapy was extremely helpful. Being assaulted leaves a scar on most people, it works differently on everyone. Joanne a nurse that worked many jobs, many hours a week not only lost her ability to work but also lost all her income and had to use her savings.In all honesty, you need to listen to this Nurse and her story. We also spoke about how this affects us, the emotional turmoil, doubting ourselves, not believing this is happening to us. What am I doing wrong to have this happen?Sometimes it takes months to believe you are in a bullied situation. She had neck, shoulder, and back pain after her patient jumped on her back taking 7 people to get her off. We also discussed the lack of support from the Administration, the Manager, and the union she belongs too. The support from the staff was terrific and made her feel supported.
