Ep 154 | Does Mental Illness Stop God’s Call on Your Life? How to Equip Yourself to Thrive in the Midst of Daily Mental Illness Struggles - Interview with Carla Arges
Hey Winner! As you may have heard my story, I have struggled with depression in my early adult years and still face the battle to keep my victory. If you don’t know my story, you can hear it in episode 130. But, one thing I have learned is that just because I struggle with mental health doesn’t mean it gives me an out to what God has called me to. He WILL equip me to follow the path He’s planned, and He’ll do the same for you. My friend Carla is joining me today to talk about how to walk in purpose and thrive in life even if you face a daily struggle with mental illness. One thing she learned is that she needed to grieve the idea of what she thought her life would be like and accept the way she is to find a way to thrive. We are not limitless (if we were, we wouldn’t need God, would we?). She shares more about how she accepted her limitations and what that meant for her own success. Ep 153 | What Does Progress Look Like? How to Discover Your Own ”Victory Run”

Ep 153 | What Does Progress Look Like? How to Discover Your Own ”Victory Run”
Hey Winner, When you’re going through obstacles alongside your growth journey, I encourage you to keep a journal. Write down the things that are going on. It doesn’t have to be done every day, but when you have an AHA moment or a breakthrough, or when you come across another obstacle, write those circumstances or lessons down. Document them so you can go back and look at them. When you overcome a trial, note the struggle and how you found victory in it.  I promise you, you’re not going to remember all the details and feelings of your journey when you look back on it if you haven’t kept a record of it. It’s important to know where we came from and how we got to where we are now. When we do this, we can help others overcome similar obstacles in their lives and bring them along with us. I kept a journal throughout my entire injury (as you'll see throughout my book when you read it). In one of my journal entries on March of 2019, I wrote about a follow-up appointment I had with my orthopedic surgeon. On the way to the appointment, I thought for sure he was going to keep me in a boot longer (partly because it took me forever to try walking in the boot). But, you know what? He moved me to a brace to help me stabilize and said he wanted me to start weaning off that, too, as soon as I was ready!  This was progress, and I didn’t remember it until I read it in my journal. Now, looking back on my journal entries, I can see that I made leaps of progress. Had I not written it down, I may not have been able to identify that progress as easily. That’s the power of documenting our struggles and victories.  So what does progress look like, and how do we get going again? These are questions we're going to answer in this episode, so stay tuned! Ep 151 | How to Grow Through What You Go Through So You Can Stay Tough in Tough Times

Ep 151 | How to Grow Through What You Go Through So You Can Stay Tough in Tough Times
Hey Winner! It seems strange that, in order for your muscles to get stronger, you need to essentially tear them first. In order to get stronger, that’s exactly what we do each strength training session. We perform our bicep curls and leg lifts in order to create micro-tears in our muscles so that they recover stronger. Over time, as long as you’re working it right, these micro-tears will work together to create a greater muscle mass. You have to break down your muscles so they can grow stronger. We can adopt a similar concept through our challenges. Each challenge is like a micro-tear; it can feel painful in the moment, but as we recover, if we allow that micro-tear (or pain) to heal properly, our challenge will make us stronger. Airplanes fly because of the friction in the wingspan. The difference in the pressure above and below the wing creates a force on each that lifts the wing up into the air and allows the plane to fly.  It is curious how a bee is even able to fly, considering its makeup, but it can. A bee’s wings are not rigid; they twist and rotate during flight. The short, quick, and sweeping motions from front to back are what create enough lift to make it possible. Bees need resistance in order to fly. Just as muscles need to tear to get stronger, and airplanes need friction in order to fly, and bees need resistance to get into flight, we also can’t have victory without a struggle. We grow through the challenges we endure. Ep 147 | How God Can Use Your Battles and Breakthroughs to Help Others Create Their Beautiful Stories - with Quadruple Amputee Wendy Wallace
Does gratitude initially come to mind when you face trials? Are you thankful for the challenges you’re walking through right now?  Can I be honest? Me neither… I mean, who wants to go through these challenges? Who naturally is grateful for pain? I know I tend to go into that self-pity, woe-is-me attitude without even thinking about it. Life is hard!  Well, my friend Wendy has gone through obstacles most of us will never have to face, and she’s found gratitude through it. She’s learned how God allows our suffering to create a beautiful story of hope, joy, and peace and how God can use our battles and breakthroughs to help others. Her story exudes these concepts, and her battles have become breakthroughs and inspiration to everyone around her. Wendy Wallace is a wife, mom, Christian Living & Positivity coach, Inspirational digital content creator at One Exceptional Life, and ice cream lover. She is also a quadruple amputee. A flesh-eating bacterial infection resulted in a coma, 3-month hospital stay, and amputations of both hands and both feet.  What you might consider the worst thing that could possibly happen, actually was for her good and God's glory. By God's wonderful grace, she is living "One Exceptional Life" where, in true form with 2 Corinthians 1:4, “God comforted her in all her tribulations so that she can comfort, lift up and encourage other women to rediscover God’s joy and peace amid the trials of life. I’m so ready to learn how she allowed God to create her own beautiful breakthrough story, so let’s dive in! Ep 145 | Is Balance Possible When You Have a Goal? - with Sara Jimenez
You are a busy working mama, and your season is full. I get it! You have a goal you’d like to work on for yourself, but you just don’t really know if it’s possible to go after that goal and still have balance in your life. You’re asking the question, is balance even possible when you have a goal? Well, I can tell you first-hand that I’ve thought both ways – balance isn’t possible and you have to sacrifice everything to go after a goal (old me), and now I know balance is completely possible and you can still be present in your life while working toward a goal (new me). How? By understanding the season you are in and understanding how to break that goal down into manageable bites. Today I have my good friend Sara here with me to share more about how to have both – balance and a goal. She has gone through the hot mess mom express, but she found a breakthrough realizing she was living the way she was based on beliefs that dictated her actions and that she didn’t have to live that way any longer, all she had to do was change, and that’s what she decided to do. Ep 140 | 6 Tips to Create White Space for Yourself - How to Find ME Time in the Busy-ness of Motherhood
Hey Winner, Finding ME time can be quite taboo these days, but creating white space in your life can affect how you show up. When you have peace in the midst of a busy season, you show up rested and ready to tackle whatever comes. Peace comes from creating that time for yourself to just be. The quiet is a place to think, pray, and be creative. The white space, the quiet, is good for us! In the noisy world we live in, we think we need to have background noise 24/7, but that's just not the case. The quiet isn't distracting. God can speak to us in the quiet. But, I know you're thinking, "Gabe! I am in the busiest part of motherhood yet, or I feel like I am. How in the world can I find even 5 minutes for white space in my life?" I hear ya, and I'm right with you. I felt the same way. Every second of my day was filled with something, and if I did have a few minutes, I'd turn on music or a podcast or scroll social. It was like quiet was my enemy because I was so used to all the noise. BUT when I let go of all the noise I created and actually made time to listen to my own thoughts, my days became more peaceful and rested — even with the busy schedule I still hold. Want to know my 6 tips to create white space in your life and to create a little ME time in the busy-ness of motherhood? Then let's dive in! 139 | Biblical Care for Moms - The Self-Care You Desperately Need to Refuel with Sasha Robertson
Have you struggled with the idea of taking time for yourself because you’re just too busy to even think about it? I used to feel that way too, like I had no time for myself because I was always so worried about being everything for everyone. My house was a mess, I couldn’t keep up with the household chores, my work, the kids’ activities, and I was a hot mess! All I wanted was a little bit of me-time to refresh and refuel, but I never seemed to find it. I always put myself last. I’d say my cup was always near empty, and that’s a hard way to live.  I don’t believe I’m the only one who has struggled with taking time out to recharge, and I’m not one to do all the worldly self-care things. For me, self care means I’m filling my cup so I have something to give. It helps me be a better wife and mom and friend and worker.  That’s why today I’m bringing on my new friend Sasha to share more about what Biblical care for moms looks like, how it’s different from the world’s meaning, and how to practically implement it into our busy lives – and why we need to.  Sasha Star Robertson is an Intentional Living & Biblical Mindset Coach for moms, wife of 12 years to her best friend, boy mom (blessed by adoption), travel addict, and Jesus freak. She is the founder of The Intentional Abundance Co., co-creator of the IAM coaching system, curator of the Life & Goals Planner, and host of the Intentional Abundant Life Podcast.  Let’s step into the fire with Sasha! 138 | Creating Systems and Routines Around Your Goal - How to Get to the Finish
Hey Winner, Having a goal is a great thing (and I want you to have one), but without some systems or routines in place to create the space for you to work on it, you may never get to the finish line you were hoping for. I remember back to early motherhood when I first began really dreaming again and creating goals around those dreams. I always felt so disorganized, and all I wanted was to find a way to change that so I could find time to do something for myself and focus on a goal that could make an impact. I knew I had just as much time as everyone else, but I had a hard time creating systems or routines that could help me accomplish this. Over the years, I've figured out a few things and really dedicated myself to understanding how to create systems that work for the busy motherhood season I'm in, and now I want to share them with you. What do these systems look like, what are the top 3 I recommend having, and how do you set something up like this? Well, stick around, because that's where we're going today. 137 | Find “ME” Time for Your Goals by Getting Started with a Simple Morning Routine - with Cason Schulze
I have a confession to make. I AM a morning person! My natural clock wakes me up early, so creating a morning routine was something I learned to do early on. BUT, I know many of you mamas are in a season of life where you’re staying up late or maybe even getting up a few times a night with littles, and you don’t want to set that alarm any earlier than you have to. My friend Cason was the same way. She tried for years to be a morning person and wake up an hour earlier than she needed to, but she could never stay consistent with it – which ultimately led her to feeling like a failure.  But, she found out a little secret. The key for her to maintain a morning routine was to start small and build from there. Cason Schulze is a wife, girl mom of 3, speaker, mentor, and host of Her Pursuit, a top-ranked podcast for moms. She helps moms simplify routines to create more time for themselves. She does this by equipping moms with tools to create an intentional life they're proud of so they can confidently show up as the women and mothers God created them to be. Cason believes when we partner with God and take tiny steps of action, our lives will be transformed and reflect the abundant life God promises us, regardless of our season in motherhood. If you’re looking for ways to find more time for yourself, then keep on listening! Let’s step into the fire with Cason!
