Fierce Authenticity in a World of Structural Biases
In a patriarchal culture that so often tells women who they can and cannot be, it's hard to honor your authentic self and trust the voice inside that whispers, "You're on the right path." In this episode of The SunDaze Journey Podcast, hosts Alexis Carthan and Mary-Beth Meagher talk to a woman who knows firsthand what it means to be fully and unapologetically herself in the face of cultural, social, and religious opposition. The pair are thrilled to welcome Bethany Gaddis, a pastor, ministry leader, social media manager, and justice advocate—who also happens to be Mary-Beth's personal friend and mentor. (Fun fact: MB's husband gave Bethany the nickname Queen B, and it's stuck for the past five years!). Learn more about what Bethany is doing in this world at the links below:Inspire. Empower. Be. Food Insecurity In These COVID Times

Food Insecurity In These COVID Times
With the current rising food prices, combined with supply chain shortages all over the world, many of our bank accounts feel the pinch of these elevated grocery costs. But for some of us, the issue runs deeper than a temporary financial strain. Today’s guest on The SunDaze Journey Podcast is helping to raise awareness and create holistic, community-driven solutions for those who experience food insecurity in her own backyard. In this episode, hosts Alexis Carthan and Mary-Beth Meagher welcome to the mic Victoria Hasselbring, volunteer coordinator at All Faith’s Food Bank in Sarasota, Florida. The three discuss how food insecurity is a year-round, systemic problem (not just something to be aware of as the holidays approach and we gather around our tables); how the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate this disparity; and what we can do to help make food more accessible to our neighbors and communities.  Oh…and we should also mention that Victoria is Mary-Beth’s twin sister, so if their voices sound similar, now you know the reason! Reclaiming Joy and Redefining Resilience

Reclaiming Joy and Redefining Resilience
Resilience is a word that we see thrown around often in today’s culture. It’s upheld as this “relentlessly tough-as-nails in the face of unimaginable difficulties” mindset. But how often do we forget to factor simple, authentic joy into that equation? In this episode of The SunDaze Journey Podcast, hosts Alexis and Mary-Beth dive into the importance of balancing the inevitable pain of life with the hope and positivity of what is still to come. They talk to optimism and resilience coach Aracelys Roman, founder of the online platform Emerge & Bloom, to hear her unique, nuanced perspective on joy as a launchpad for self-growth—no matter the circumstances or transitions. Head Games: Exploring Imposter Syndrome, Cognitive Distortions, and More
As we near the end of the first quarter of 2021, it's a good time to check in on the goals and resolutions we set for ourselves at the top of the year. Since almost every piece of research on the topic tells us that around 80% of people give up on their goals before the end of January, we wanted to explore the rhyme and reason. WHY do so many people lose momentum or flat out give up on their goals by this time of the year… specifically when they are making traction, no matter how small. In this episode, hosts Alexis and Mary-Beth explore a few “mental games” we play to convince ourselves we aren’t enough. This episode's sources include -- Imposter Syndrome (Psychology Today)5 Different Types of Imposter Syndrome and 5 Ways to Battle Each One (The Muse)What Are Cognitive Distortions and How Can You Change These Thinking Patterns?
