How to Start Homesteading
Jun 7 2022
How to Start Homesteading
Today's episode is something that all people who thinks of starting to homestead can relate. This is a relevant topic that most of us can get tips and tricks. As how Danielle mentioned, anybody can start homesteading because homesteading is more of a lifestyle choice than it is. It's kind of more like a lifestyle or like a mental attitude more than anything else. If we think about it, homesteading, in large part is all about food. We are producing food, preserving food. It's one of our core needs. There's a lot of things that we think we need that are really just things that we could actually survive without. But if you don't have food and water, you literally cannot survive. You'd need to know how to prepare that food. And if it comes to water, you didn't know how to purify that water, how to store that water. If you are someone who struggles with boiling water, then that's a great place to start. And just like gardening, if you think just because you killed a few plants that you can't garden, you don't know how to garden, you'll never be able to garden, anything can be taught. Same thing goes for cooking.Anything that you need to start your homesteading journey can be learned. You just have to have the proper mindset.Listen to the full podcast episode and find out how Bonnie and Danielle started homesteading.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too? Taking Chances
May 24 2022
Taking Chances
For today's episode, Bonnie and Danielle discussed about taking chances and getting outside of our comfort zones. As an entrepreneur, we are a little bit up, we're wired a little bit differently than people who don't have that mindset. Partially because as an entrepreneur we tried to take on the world instead of just delegating tasks. There's a lot of homesteaders that hold themselves back because they're not willing or they're too afraid to take a leap that would put them in an uncomfortable position. They maybe don't want to move away from family or away from the area they're living in. Maybe they're too scared to get started because they don't think they have all the resources that they need. Regardless of what scale we're talking about, when it comes to taking chances, anything that we try is a chance. A good example is when you go and get a degree from college and you're taking the chance that you'll actually be able to get a job with that degree or that there'll be a need for that for your skill set. A lot of times with homesteading, in general, we are taking on something that is outside of the status quo, outside of the norm. And we're going to get a lot of pushback, it's going to require us to learn skills we've never had to learn before, do things we probably didn't grow up doing. We have to really just acknowledge that those are bold actions, and that we are capable of doing those things even when it seems scary.Listen the whole podcast episode and see how Bonnie and Danielle provided tips on how we can start taking chances and finally get out of our comfort zone.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too? Overcoming Setbacks

Overcoming Setbacks
Today's episode is really a good conversation. We discussed how we can overcome our setbacks. If we're talking about the setback itself, there's a lot of times that there are things that are outside of our control. Whether it be a health issue, or the economy or a job loss. And so a lot of times we just have to go, "Okay. This is this is my reality right now. This is the circumstance. Now, what do I do about it?" You can have a few people that you can feel comfortable sharing with that aren't gonna judge you for it. That's the hardest thing. That's probably why we don't usually vent and internalized so much is because we've been told by so many different people that the way we feel is wrong. And you have no right to complain or if it is a concern to you, you have a right to have that concern. Other people aren't going to think that your problem is as big as their problems. But if it is a big problem to you, then it is a big problem you can vent out. Also, you can just have a notebook that you're just writing out all of your thoughts. Because we've internalized stuff for so long that we kind of need something that's going to draw that out for us. But the important thing is to write out everything you're thinking without any negative judgment towards yourself. To know the steps in detail, we suggest you listen to the whole podcast episode. You'll definitely get helpful ways on how to overcome your setbacks in all aspects of your life.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too? Things You Can Do to Take Action and Start Working on your Homesteading Dream

Things You Can Do to Take Action and Start Working on your Homesteading Dream
Today is another special episode of the Grounded in Simplicity Podcast. We are wrapping up by giving you Things You Can Do to Take Action and Start Working on your Homesteading Dream. To start, you kind of have to learn to let go of those things and only keep things that you really love or really need. We should only have the things that bring us joy, which are the things that you need especially leading this kind of lifestyle. But you can definitely learn to minimize and simplify.Learning to let go of the consumers mindset can be very, very hard. But as you know, homesteaders are people who want to learn to homestead. We should be producing things and producers, instead of so much consumers. The best way to do this is to turn their phones off, or at least put them in another room while you go do something else. We don't need our phones all the time and make yourself hard to get ahold to get things done and be more productive, but in all honesty, it helps you be less of a consumer and gets you away from the consumer mindset because when we're constantly on our phones. We're usually scrolling on Social Media, or some other thing and then we end up with a lot of advertisements that are trying to get us to buy the things we don't need. You can use this season of your life wherever you're at as a learning season. And remember everything is just a season, everything changes. People change all the time. Situations change all the time. Everything is constantly changing. So you have to learn how to use the seasons that you're in to make your dreams move forward without having to be on this big cloud of land or have a big garden or whatever it is that you dream.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too? Goal Setting for Homesteaders
Mar 9 2022
Goal Setting for Homesteaders
Another episode for Grounded in Simplicity! This time we discussed about Goal Setting for Homesteader.Goal setting help you start your homestead and keep it going without being overwhelmed, regardless of where you live. Because if you just have an open ended goal, then you're going to find a lot of time passed without you actually accomplishing anything. And that's also when you're going to see yourself take on a lot of things that are not relevant. And you end up kind of all over the place. It is important to FIND YOUR WHY. The reason why you need to have a why is it helps you have purpose. You'll never always motivated. There are some points in your life that you feel exhausted by the things you're doing in your life. Having a 'why' helps you focus more and keeps your drive. You should also always START SMALL. Because we want to make sure that we're starting small, and not trying to take on too much, especially the first year of homesteading. Keep everything small and manageable instead of jumping in with both feet and trying to do all the things. Starting small will not get you overwhelmed. And that's what we are trying to avoid. We also talked about the SMART acronym which stands for SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, RELEVANT and TIME BOUND. Listen to the full podcast episode to know more about this acronym and why it is helpful in goal setting.Links mentioned in the episode:streamyard,com/facebookhttps://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdateshttps://therusticelk.com/challengeKitchen BotanicalsThe Not So Modern Housewife Youtube ChannelThe Not So Modern HousewifeThe Self Sufficient Life Support the show
Preparing for the Peak Season in the Homestead without Getting Overwhelmed
Mar 1 2022
Preparing for the Peak Season in the Homestead without Getting Overwhelmed
It's another episode of the Grounded in Simplicity. For today, we discussed how you can not be overwhelmed during the peak season in the homestead. It is best to write down what you need to start each week. It's like knowing like what your benchmarks are going to be. If you can have a note written in your calendar to have a roadmap of the things that you are going to try to work on or focus on every week. The nice thing with having a list is it's pretty consistent from year to year. It makes it easier as you do it more. So every year, it gets a little bit easier, because you can just look back on those notes that you have created previously. May it be in gardening, buying seeds or preserving foods or doing groceries. The more stuff that accumulates, the more it's still in our subconscious mind that all of this stuff needs to get done in a certain period of time. It is like our brain keeps a running and the more stuff that goes undone, and the more stuff that starts to accumulate, then the more our anxiety builds. Simplify your routine, simplify your life. Figure out what you can take out like, it really comes down to figuring out what your priorities are, what you're going to focus on, what you're going to dedicate your time to. And then figuring out how you can either eliminate everything or eliminate or delegate everything else. Always remember, you cannot do everything on your own.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too? Being Prepared Realistically
Feb 22 2022
Being Prepared Realistically
Here we are with another episode! Today we talked about being prepared and what that looks like realistically. It means focusing on the things that are more likely to occur. We can't foresee every possible scenario. It's more about just doing what we can with what we have and focusing on best case scenario playing or hope for the best plan for the worst. We can't really depend on the supply chain, necessarily, but at the same time, you find ways to source locally. There's plenty to go around. It's just a matter of using those resources better. Focus not so much on having a stock, a long term stockpile. But focus on preserving your own stuff, having enough for your family for however many months or at the most for the next year. And really just focusing on creating or learning skills that are going to help you in emergency help you to rebuild. In the end, it is best to support our local farmers and find ways to source that stuff locally to help you become prepared in any kind of situation.Links mentioned in this episode:2022 Seed VarietiesPampered Gardener Box by Kitchen BotanicalsThe Self Sufficient LifeNot So Modern LivingEpisode SponsorKitchen BotanicalsUse code GROUNDED for 20% off your first purchase. If you enjoyed today's episode and you love this show, can you help us convince others to listen too?
