026: Conquering Your Inner Critic w/ Sheira Kahn

The Voices of Wisdom Project

May 10 2022 • 1 hr 2 mins

This week’s episode is with an amazing guest – Sheira Kahn, Marriage Family Therapist and Coach. Ms. Kahn is the co-author of The Erasing Ed Treatment Manual, and co-host of the podcast, Two Wise Women Talking.

What does it mean to live with an inner critic or any self sabotaging voice? How do we work with our own inner critic, that negative voice in our heads that tells us we can't do this or that we’re not enough? When the inner critic is too big, it can become tyrannical. And who can’t relate to that harsh inner self-critical voice?

In this episode, we discuss getting into your body and feeling contact with the present moment and with your circumstances to overcome the inner critic. My guest, Sheira Kahn MFT, and I discuss the tools we use and share with others to move through the trauma that causes the “super ego” and work with yourself.

We’re exploring:

  • The connection with shame and the inner critic
  • The inner critic as a barrier to being able to know your true nature
  • How the ego and the superego work together
  • Working your practices can really make a difference
  • Looking for physical, emotional and cognitive signs of escalation
  • Dis-identifying with the inner critic
