At LSU, Jacobs oversaw the team's Velocity-Based Training system, Perch, creating daily mesocycle and macrocycle force/velocity and tonnage reports. Jacobs earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology – exercise science from Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2016 and a master's degree in kinesiology – pedagogy and psychology from LSU in 2018.
