"Preserving Life's Memories: An Interview With Certified Photo Organiser, Simone Larwood"
Digital technology has improved the way we can store and see photos and many people now have hundreds of photos on their devices. Ron Fiedler from The Adelaide Project Business Spotlight introduces his guest Simone Larwood from Your Photos Filed, Simon is a certified Photo Organizer from South Australia who started a business in the organisation of photos. Simon explains how she can help people organise their photos so they can store them safely and restore them if necessary, thus preserving their memories.
She explains that many people have their photos scattered across multiple devices and are overwhelmed by the thought of organising them. To help people organise their photos, Simone offers a unique niche service that allows people to get their photos into a manageable state, back them up safely, and create a photo legacy for future generations. She attributes the difficulty of organising photos to the sheer number of photos that people take today compared to the past when there was a cost involved in getting photos developed. Her goal is to help people organise their photos so they can share them creatively, back them up safely, and create a photo legacy.
People are becoming increasingly overwhelmed by the number of photos they are taking, both digital and physical. Physical photos, in particular, need to be handled and stored with care. Magnetic albums, for example, can actually speed up the deterioration process. Simone has been trained by Cathi Nelson the founder of the Photo Managers Who Association, who developed a process of organising, photos and sharing people’s stories her books outline the process of how to organise and scan photos that tell the story of your family, and also how to determine which photos should be scanned. By sorting and organising photos, it will make it easier to scan the photos that are meaningful and important.
Simone and Ron discuss the importance of organising photos and scanning them to preserve them for future generations. Photos that have been stored in albums or even loose in drawers and boxes should be gathered and organised before scanning. Once organised, the best photos should be scanned and the originals can be kept in archival-quality boxes or albums. Restoration of photos is an option, particularly if they are important to the family, and this can be done by a professional. It is important to note that photos should be taken with the sun behind the subject, as too much light from behind will cause the subject to be too dark.
