110: Artist Spotlight: Khalid Alkaaby
In this month’s Artist Spotlight, I welcome Khalid Alkaaby to the podcast to talk about his artwork, his process, and the inspiration behind his collection at the Junior League of San Diego. We discuss some of the shared challenges we all have as creatives, including a tendency to overthink what we create. Khalid shares how meditation has had a major impact on his work, helping him get into the flow and stay there. Khalid’s story and his passion for his work are inspiring for all creatives. Design Coven Pro members will have a chance to experience Khalid’s work in person at the Junior League of San Diego on Saturday, June 3. Learn more and join us at designcoven.com/join.About Khalid AlkaabyAlkaaby’s creative journey started early in his childhood. His natural talents for drawing and painting inspired him to begin his education in Fine Art. While attending University his work was shaped by the local Masters of his hometown. They saw his potential as a young artist and shared their wealth of knowledge and expertise with him.Alkaaby’s beautiful life was uprooted in 2005 with a change in the political climate. Alkaaby chose to embark on the journey of a lifetime and to immigrate to the US. It is here in the US that Alkaaby experienced a sense of creative freedom that allowed his works to soar to higher levels.Alkaaby’s figurative work celebrates the energy and beauty of the sitter, translated to the viewer by his expert eye. His abstract work takes a moment in time, his personal energy and fuses it to the canvas. Each piece of Alkaaby’s work is a meditation, a vision prior to his brush touching the canvas.Alkaaby’s work is inspired by love, grace and beauty that surrounds him. 109: Finding Your Brand Voice with Jazmin Cornejo
We’re talking about brand voice this week with online business manager and mentor Jazmin Cornejo. Jazmin shares her journey as an entrepreneur, including how she created two distinct voices for her two brands and how her branding helps draw in her ideal clients. We talk about how we can better embrace ourselves as brands, and, at the same time, why it’s okay for our brands to evolve and to not be who we are 24/7. I also share some of my personal struggles with brand voice and how I overcame them. Guest BioJazmin’s goal is to help women achieve their highest potential, allowing them more time to enjoy the luxuries of life like travel, good food, friends, and wine! As an ex-corp girl who turned multi-passionate entrepreneur, Jazmin has helped several brands grow and scale beyond 6 & 7 figures. Some would say she is a little bit bold & spicy - a Scorpio rebel at heart! She does things to the beat of her own drum and wants to show others how to do the same. She’s a little bit woo-woo, and if you know anything about Human Design, she’s a Projector so essentially a natural-born guide, a master of working smarter, not harder, and only wants to work 5-6 hours a day, which is why easy automation, tasks that move the needle and are effective are her jam! She’s a networking queen and knows the importance of her community! You gotta treat them like fine wine and give nothing but top-notch customer service! She wants to make everyday life easier for you so you can live in your ZONE OF BRILLIANCE! When Jazmin is not helping you achieve your top level of success, she is helping women see the world with her other company, FeMAVEN Getaways. 105: Sacred Spaces Series with Madouk Collection: The Energy of Spaces & Things
In the third episode of our Sacred Spaces Series with Jessica & Taylor of Madouk Collection, we’re getting into a juicy topic: the energy of our spaces and the things we have in them. (And yes, we even touch on the paranormal in this episode!) Everything we put in our spaces has energy, but do we know what that energy is? Understanding the history of our items, how they were made, and who made them are all important to deciphering the energy they’re bringing in, and we want that energy to be in alignment with what we’re cultivating. If you have any stories about energy in your home or in the homes of clients, feel free to share with us–energy often has more of an impact than we realize!About MadoukMadouk Collection helps eco-conscious and socially aware people dealing with the difficulty in finding genuinely ethical and sustainable products achieve a stylish and comfortable living space through offering a carefully curated selection of ethically sourced, handmade rugs and home décor items. 094: Artist Spotlight: Kelsey Brookes
San Diego-based artist Kelsey Brookes joins me for this month’s Artist Spotlight. We have a wonderful conversation about his background in art and science, what led him to pursue art full time, and what inspires his work. His process and experiences in many ways relate to our process as Holistic Interior Designers, practically and creatively. His work would make a lovely addition to your projects, so be sure to check out his show at Quint Gallery! The Design Coven will be doing an artist tour and talk with Kelsey at Quint Gallery on Wednesday, April 5th. If you’d like to join us and become part of the Design Coven, head to designcoven.com/join.Guest Bio Kelsey Brookes is a former scientist who uses his background in biological and empirical methodology to create a new genre of art. His practice takes ideas and forms found in logic and natural systems (molecular and atomic structure, number sequences etc.) and creates art that blurs the boundaries between science and art. This methodology becomes the instrument used to create lively and colorful work that is both meticulously crafted and conceptually rigorous. His detailed paintings and sculptures find a balance between the normally opposing philosophies of subjectivity and objectivity, as well as concept and aesthetic. Diving into the discoveries of the physicist, mathematicians and chemist as only a scientist can then reducing and express that knowledge to the nonscientific world in the form of image and color as only an artist can.Brookes has had solo exhibitions in La Jolla, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, London and Berlin. His work was featured as the cover art for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 2012 “I’m With You record and The Flaming Lips’ 2013 “Stone Roses” LP. KELSEY BROOKES: Psychedelic Space is the first monograph of the artist’s artwork and examines three years of work and four solo exhibitions. His work belongs in esteemed private collections, as well as the public permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the Frederick R. Weisman Foundation.Featured in this episodeFeatured candle: Beeswax candle from Mithras CandleFeatured Tarot deck: Radiant Crystal Cards by Bouchette DesignConnect with KelseyLinks:WebsiteInstagramCosmic Symmetries at Quint GalleryAre you an interior designer or are you interested in Holistic Interior Design?
