Our Editor's Take

In The Deprogram podcast, a Texan, an Iraqi and a Balkan Slav blend well together. "A Texan, an Iraqi and a Balkan Slav sit at a table…" sounds like the setup for a bad joke. Instead, it is the setup for this funny political podcast. Their multifacet political perspectives bring them together in an emphatic and witty manner. Coming from three different parts of the world, they share three things: leftist political views, hatred for capitalism and a love of humor.

The Deprogram podcast features the thoughts of Hakim (the Iraqi), Yugopnik (the Balkan Slav) and JT (American Texan). Despite that, this podcast sets a humorous tone. Listeners can expect an in-depth but adult-oriented discourse. The podcast talks about topics like Communism, the importance of intersectionality, and socialism. The hosts sometimes talk about other topics like food as well. Listeners can find out how fluent the host trio is with GenZ slang in each new episode.

Many show titles are a play on words, such as "With World Cup Deez N*ts" in reference to the FIFA World Cup. The show still discusses serious controversies behind the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Advertising, racism, worker controversies, and FIFA's corruption fill the episode.

The "Let Them Eat Cake (JT's Juicy Dumptruck)" episode sees the trio discussing food culture. The conversation centers on their favorite international food delights, food classism, and veganism.

The Deprogram also welcomes guests. Among them are Russian journalist Konstantin Syomin. British journalist Alan Macleod and US economist Richard Wolff also appear. New episodes of The Deprogram podcasts drop twice every week. The show posts a teaser episode a few days before airtime.
