ICTP 285: What we should want from the Internet in 2024 and beyond, with Shernon Osepa
Is the internet we should want in 2024 different from the internet we wanted in 2014? The internet of 2014 has evolved considerably, but have our expectations of the internet and the ways we could be using it, kept up with the developments that have occurred? With Telecommunications/Internet Operations and Policy Strategist, Shernon Osepa, we discuss the current state of the internet in the Caribbean region and how we could be better leveraging it in 2024 and beyond. Below are some of the questions that shaped our conversation: 1.     How has the landscape of the internet evolved over the past 5—10 years? 2.     What are the major trends or technological advancements that are shaping the internet today? 3.  The internet has become integral to everyday life. What are your thoughts on how we in the Caribbean currently use the internet, versus how we should be using the internet? 4.     The issue of trust – or a lack thereof – has been hindering the development of e-commerce and even some basic fintech segments across the region. What should we want as a region? 5.     From the country perspective, how have we in the Caribbean been using the internet, versus how we should be using the internet?   The episode, show notes and links to some of the things mentioned during the episode can be found on the ICT Pulse Podcast Page (www.ict-pulse.com/category/podcast/)    Enjoyed the episode?  Do rate the show and leave us a review!     Also, connect with us on: Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/ICTPulse/  Instagram –  https://www.instagram.com/ictpulse/  Twitter –  https://twitter.com/ICTPulse  LinkedIn –  https://www.linkedin.com/company/3745954/admin/  Join our mailing list: http://eepurl.com/qnUtj    Music credit: The Last Word (Oui Ma Chérie), by Andy Narrell Podcast editing support:  Mayra Bonilla Lopez   ---------------- Also, Sponsorship Opportunities! ICTP 284: Deep tech, impact innovation and how the Caribbean region should be leveraging them, with Telly Valerie Onu
Deep tech and impact innovation are not terms that are readily discussed in the Caribbean tech start-up space but are considered crucial and strategic if the region wants to level up and truly punch above its weight in tech innovation and entrepreneurship. Telly Valerie Onu, of Quintessence Consulting Inc., shares with us key insights on how Caribbean countries can increase the impact of technology on their societies and how tech entrepreneurs can better access the support they need. Among other things, we discuss:   *  What is meant by the terms, ‘deep tech’, ‘convergence economics’ and ‘impact innovation’ and the connection between them;   *  Challenges that developers and start-ups face generally and when working with embedded deep tech; and   *  How the tech community can leverage the opportunities in AgTech and climate financing.
