Unfortunately, in many schools across the nation Black students statistically lag behind their peers in academic success indicators. However, studies of winning public schools where all students including Black students are excelling document it does not have to be this way. Studies of these winning schools provide evidence that Black children are born just as brilliant as their peers and have tremendous capacity to excel academically when placed in environments where leaders believe in them, implement structures, and create cultures that support their success. Tune in to Leadership Matters for this important discussion with host Dr. Sheryl White and Dr. Joseph F. Johnson, Jr, Executive Coach, Founding Director of the National Center for Urban School Transformation. Dr. Johnson, Emeritus Dean & Professor in the College of Education at San Diego State University, is an author of several books including the newly released book titled When Black Students Excel: How Schools Can Engage and Empower Black Students. Dr. Johnson will share how schools, particularly their leaders, where Black students excel are different than other schools in the United States. Lessons learned can provide insight to leaders in other organizations to improve their success in empowering emerging leaders. Don’t miss this episode of Leadership Matters: Informing Leaders.
