Episode 3.09: Introducing the Authentc Men Community
Some guys discover the world of men’s work, try it out, and discover it’s not for them. Perhaps they’re not ready to dig in, or the work simply doesn’t resonate with them.Others engage in the work and are forever changed. They embark on a journey of discovery, take their discoveries back to their lives, and live the better versions of themselves. They benefit their spouses and partners, their children, and their communities. They make strides toward achieving the growth they’ve been seeking. There’s a third group of men, however, who begin doing the work and recognize that this will be their lifelong mission or their legacy. They get called to a life of service of bringing this approach to emotional healing to every man they meet. That’s what happened to me. The work changed me deeply, and I resonated with its power so greatly that it became my ministry to bring this work forward to help men heal their deepest wounds. My guests today fit into that last category. These are men who found the work and recognized that they are called to pay it forward. In this episode, I welcome the founders of Authentc Men: Phillip Gaynor, Dan Kline, and Tom Szigethy. Through their work, they are creating a community in which men can achieve their best selves while recognizing that no man has to do it alone. We think you’ll enjoy hearing what they have to say about their journeys, the work, and how their new community can foster connection and healing. So let’s get on the road!Connect with Phillip, Dan, and Tom at Authentc Men: www.authentcmen.com#menswork   #selfimprovement   #menshealth  #mensmentalhealth  #mensemotions  #mensemotionalhealth  #personaldevelopment  #personalgrowth   #evryman   #coaching    #menscoach    #menscoaching   #authenticity    #personalauthenticity    #masculinity   #emotionalhealth  #vulnerability  #authentcmen Visit the Authenticity Road website: authenticityroad.onlineConnect with us here.© Authenticity Road, Inc. Episode 3.08: Freedom From Anger with James Clemmons
Losing your cool. Flying off the handle. Blowing a fuse. No matter what you call it, we all do it now and then: Get angry. In today’s episode, we’re taking a deeper dive into this topic that touches every one of us. But this isn't just about the moments when we’ve seen red; it's about understanding the roots of our rage, navigating our emotions, and ultimately, finding freedom in the ways we respond to the world around us.In this episode, we're joined by James Clemmons, a Marine veteran who's turned his personal battles with anger into a beacon of hope for many. James is the founder of Freedom from Anger LLC, an organization dedicated to helping individuals, especially those who are incarcerated, to manage their anger, reduce stress, and lead healthier emotional lives.Through his work, James has seen firsthand the transformative power of self-awareness, acceptance, and the courage to seek help. We'll explore the physiological responses our bodies have to anger, the societal impacts of unmanaged rage, and how, to paraphrase something James said, 'managing anger doesn't mean eliminating it—it means understanding it.'So, whether you've struggled with anger yourself or know someone who has, this conversation is an invitation to look inward, to challenge our perceptions, and to discover the freedom that comes from truly understanding and managing our emotions. Episode 3.07: Take It to the Next Level with Kevin Palmieri

Episode 3.07: Take It to the Next Level with Kevin Palmieri
Lining up guests for the podcast can feel risky at times. Unless the guest is someone I know well—an acquaintance or personal friend—I’m taking a leap of faith that this person and I will have enough to talk about to keep the conversation going for the better part of an hour. The concern might be that the person isn’t interesting, or the conversation flags. Or, worse, the person’s area of expertise may not align at all with our focus on finding and living one’s authentic life. I had a small case of those jitters when I booked today’s guest, Kevin Palmieri. Kevin, as founder and co-host of Next Level University, comes from the worlds of podcasting and coaching, but with a decidedly different focus and vibe than is usual for our show. Yet as Kevin and I talked, something interesting happened: Two guys who I thought came from very different places started speaking the same language. And when that happened, I saw how my suppositions could have limited what turned out to be a beautiful interaction.Kevin is an energetic, dynamic, and engaging speaker with a lot to say about personal growth, pursuing our personal authenticity, the power of community, and more. We think you’ll enjoy this ride. Episode 3.05: One Year of Men's Work with Ross Taylor
We talk a lot on this show about men doing their personal development work and seeking to become the best versions of themselves. We discuss techniques and modalities. We talk about the tools we teach and the behaviors we seek to model. But what does it look like when a man actually does the work and applies these skills to his life?In this episode we welcome my friend and men’s work brother Ross Taylor. Unlike many of our guests, Ross is not a professional in the field of personal development. He’s neither a coach, facilitator, nor author. He is to my mind something much more impressive: He’s a man who has applied his learnings to change his life for the better. Ross is an articulate and insightful proponent and practitioner of the work. We think you’ll find him not only an affable and charming fellow to spend some time with, but also a relatable everyman who is making the journey toward his best self. Episode 3.01: ManKind Project USA with Boysen Hodgson

Episode 3.01: ManKind Project USA with Boysen Hodgson
If you’ve been listening to the Authenticity Road Podcast over the last two seasons, you know that Jordan and I both came to this work via EVRYMAN and the somatic method they teach. For some time, though, I’ve been considering that there’s more than one way for men to pursue their personal and emotional development. With that in mind, we’re kicking off our third season of the show—our 51st episode—with a guest whose name may be familiar to many in the world of men’s work: Boysen Hodgson.  Boysen is a dedicated husband and dad. He’s a fiercely optimistic advocate for men’s transformation. And—if you’ve seen his name in your inbox—it’s likely as a result of his role as Communications Director for the ManKind Project USA. I will own that I entered our conversation with a bias and more than a few preconceived notions about the ManKind Project, what they stand for, and how they do the work. I was delighted to have my views challenged and to learn quite a lot about this longstanding and impactful organization. Whether or not you’re familiar with ManKind Project, you’ll no doubt find much to think about in what Boysen has to say. So let’s get on the road!About BoysenBoysen Hodgson is the Communications Director for the ManKind Project USA, a nonprofit organization hosting transformational programs and supporting men’s groups serving over 10,000 men every week. He’s the co-creator of the ManKind Podcast, a show that invites listeners to expand their perspectives on manhood, and he’s the author of “The New Macho,” a credo for emotionally mature masculinity. Episode 2.25: Season Finale, Part Two – Religion and Sex with J. Stamatelos

Episode 2.25: Season Finale, Part Two – Religion and Sex with J. Stamatelos
As we mentioned last time, it’s often said that we shouldn’t talk about money, politics, and religion in polite society. Well, we’re going to throw one more taboo topic into the mix: Sex.In part two of our season finale, we continue our chat with repeat guest, self-relationship coach and IFS practitioner J. Stamatelos. In this part of our conversation, we dive into a topic that has both fascinated and confounded humanity for millennia: the complex intersection between religion and sexuality. It’s an important discussion, because the way religion perceives and regulates sex has real-world consequences—whether that's related to gender roles, reproductive rights, or sexual education. The teachings and traditions we grow up with can deeply impact our self-esteem, relationships, and even our mental health. And although we’re speaking from inside our religious experience, this of course goes beyond just one religion or one cultural context. With of all that said, it’s time to venture into the provocative, the sacred, the sensual, and possibly the scandalous. Sep 13 2023
Episode 2.24: Season Finale, Part One – Religion and Authenticity with J. Stamatelos
It’s often said that the three topics one should avoid in polite society are money, politics, and religion. In this episode, the first half of our two-part season finale, we’re going to risk being impolite and broach the subject of religion. Specifically, we’re diving into a topic that has puzzled philosophers, shaped civilizations, and sparked countless debates: the intersection of religion and authenticity. That is, can our spiritual beliefs coexist with our true selves? Or does religion sometimes pressure us into feeling we need to be someone we're not?Followers of the Authenticity Road Podcast are familiar with our repeat guest, self-relationship coach and IFS practitioner J. Stamatelos. We’re delighted to welcome J. back for his fourth appearance on the show. As someone who has spent considerable time and study in this area, and who encounters the effects of religion on clients in his IFS practice, J. brings a unique lens to how we integrate religious doctrine while striving to be our most authentic selves. So be warned: This is not a conversation for the faint of heart. Episode 2.23: Exploring Our Evolving Men's Work Journey
Sep 5 2023
Episode 2.23: Exploring Our Evolving Men's Work Journey
If you look back to our first season, you’ll notice that many of our episodes featured just Jordan and me talking, with no outside guests. This season, we did things a little differently as we shifted our attention to bringing in guests on a wider range of topics. Given that, we’ve only had time so far for one episode of us talking to each other. As we are nearing the end of season two—with only two more episodes left after this—we thought it was high time for one more exclusively Ettore and Jordan episode. In this episode, we have a chat about how our journey in the men’s work arena is evolving. The focus here is particularly on Jordan as he is spreading his wings to expand his work beyond the confines of the community in which we’ve spent much of our time over the past few years. As the conversation continues, we also home in on some of the reasons behind this shift and delve into a few questions that I have about Jordan’s shift and approach to things. And while it may seem at first that this conversation is narrowly focused on only his experience, you may find that the issues we raise and what’s going on for both of us in our evolving men’s work journey also resonate with where you are, where you’ve been—or maybe even where you are going. We hope you’ll enjoy this “just the two of us” episode. Episode 2.22: Self Identity, Drum Circles, and More with Andrew Ecker
One of the great things about podcasting is that I regularly get to meet and have in-depth conversations with fascinating people whose paths I would almost certainly never cross anywhere else. Today’s guest, author, speaker and drum circle facilitator Andrew Ecker, is one such person. In this interview, Andrew weaves the rich tale of his life’s story, how he found his authentic self, and how that brought him to help others through the tradition of drum circles and sound medicine. We think you’ll find this a unique and fascinating journey. So let’s get on the road!About Andrew EckerAndrew Ecker, author of the The Sacred 7, Apache “NDE”, Irish and German American. Born into an inheritance of trauma, both his parents were addicted to drugs and died very young. Mom, Kathy Lindsey, died from a cocaine overdose whereas Father, Dale Ecker, from HepC caused from intravenous drug use. Growing up in the height of the Reagan and Clinton “War on Drugs” policies led Andrew down a path of destruction that included cocaine and heroin abuse until he made a decision to change his life while serving 3.5 years in federal prison for drug charges. Andrew found healing in his life through the use of ancient technologies including drumming and a ceremonial introduction process of his Native American ancestry he outlines in his book The Sacred 7.Find out more:Andrew's book: The Sacred 7  (thesacredseven.com)Drumming Sounds (drummingsounds.com)Visit the Authenticity Road website: authenticityroad.onlineConnect with us here.© Authenticity Road, Inc. Episode 2.21: An Accidental Conversation About Fathers with Aaron Musicant
Before we press the record button for an episode, we let our guests know that we don’t necessarily have a list of questions prepared for them, but instead prefer to get the jalopy rolling and then follow the energy where it leads. This interview, with our dear brother, friend and co-facilitator Aaron Musicant, is a prime example of “following the energy” at work. One thing is said early in our talk that steers us onto what will be our path for much of the show. Call it an accidental conversation about fathers. Aaron and I find ourselves talking about our fathers, what it’s like to be fathers to our children, and how to be fathers to ourselves. Later in the show, we chat about our men's work, friendship, family and more. The common connector throughout the conversation is the tender and intimate nature of it. This might just be our most vulnerable episode yet. The trust and safety that was present for us is palpable. We hope you’ll enjoy this special moment between brothers. Episode 2.17: Nutrition and Emotional Balance with Stacy Tucker
When you hear the word "malnutrition," you may jump immediately to images of people living in abject poverty, famine-stricken lands, or other extreme situations. However, malnourishment can strike anyone—even the most affluent among us. And when that happens, what is the link between malnutrition and emotional trauma? In this episode, we speak with Stacy Tucker, a trauma nurse, nutrition researcher, and acupuncturist. When our nervous system is out of balance, Stacy tells us, we aren’t able to convert food efficiently and these imbalances can ultimately lead to emotional struggles. Stacy is sought after not only for her healing powers as a practitioner, but also for the science behind her pioneering organic nutrition product line. Episode 2.16: Pornography Addiction and Recovery with Joshua Shea
May 30 2023
Episode 2.16: Pornography Addiction and Recovery with Joshua Shea
Addiction comes in many forms. Most of them are difficult to conceal. Whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or gambling, the outward effects of addiction are often easily visible to the family, friends, and coworkers of the addict. However, porn addiction—the compulsive dependence on pornography that interferes with the ability to function—can remain largely undetected. And yet the fallout is quite real. In addition to the shame and guilt one might feel, there is also the risk of the inability to perform sexually without porn, alienation of spouses and partners, and disconnection from relationships, work, or other activities. The advent of high-speed internet has kicked the problem into overdrive, as addicts now have access to a nearly unlimited stream of addictive resources. In this episode, we speak with coach, author and speaker Joshua Shea. Josh specializes in the realm of addiction, with a particular focus on pornography addiction. He addresses the concerns not only of those with a porn addiction, but also the issues that come with being a partner of a porn addict, and raising children in the age of high-speed internet access. Josh has been pornography-free since March 2014, and he believes that if we can begin to talk more about porn addiction and mental health, we'll see rates of addiction drop.  Because the topic is sex, many folks are reluctant to have a frank discussion around the mental health implications of this disease. But this is a vital conversation that we need to be having. We hope you’ll find our talk with Josh to be revealing and informative. So let’s get on the road!About Joshua SheaJoshua Shea is a pornography addiction expert, certified betrayal trauma coach, therapeutic disclosure specialist and the author of four books about pornography addiction, including He’s a Porn Addict…Now What? An Expert and Former Addict Answer Your Questions (2022) focusing on the trauma partners feel when learning their loved one has an issue with pornography.Since 2018, Joshua has given more interviews about pornography addiction and betrayal trauma than anybody in the world. To date, he has internationally appeared on nearly 400 podcasts, television and radio shows using his wealth of research and personal story to promote the ideas that porn addiction spans all demographics and those with a problem should seek help before it’s too late. He also speaks extensively about the issue of working through betrayal trauma, especially with the partners of addicts and those who are facing infidelity.Prior to admitting his 24-year addiction to pornography (and 22-year addiction to alcohol) in 2014, Joshua was a prominent magazine publisher, award-winning journalist, film festival founder and politician in central Maine. In 2017, Joshua launched RecoveringPornAddict.com which morphed into today’s PAddictRecovery.com He has also contributed articles about recovery to TheFix.com and Recovery Today magazine, is a TEDx Talk speaker and has developed and presents a porn addiction educational presentation series for colleges, churches, libraries and other groups. Sober since April 2014, Joshua still lives in Central Maine with his wife and two children. The current animal count is four dogs and seven cats, but it’s ever-changing.Other books by Shea include: He’s a Porn Addict… Now What?
