Our Editor's Take

The Chris Vernon Show is a podcast hosted by the popular online sports commentator. The program presents major news stories from a variety of sports leagues. The result is a sports podcast that is both comprehensive and high-energy at the same time.

Chris Vernon also hosts the popular basketball podcast The Mismatch for The Ringer podcast network. His other podcasts include The Ringer NBA Show and Ringer University. Vernon has been reporting on the Memphis Grizzlies for over two decades. As a sports journalist, his work has appeared in NewsBreak and the Brampton Guardian. In 2016, the podcast host won several awards from the Memphis Flyer. These include "Best Radio Personality," "Best Drive Time Show," and "Best Sports Radio Show." While Chris loves his Tennessee teams, this podcast also covers national sports news.

From even the opening theme song, it is clear that Vernon has a lot of energy and enthusiasm to spare. His sense of humor is one of the best aspects of the podcast. With episodes such as "If The Ball Did Not Hit Then You Must Acquit," Vernon's wit and vigor are readily apparent. He always manages to have fun without being spiteful. Even when discussing Grizzlies guard Ja Morant's civil court case, Vernon is aware that these are real people he is discussing. Such empathy is a refreshing change of pace in sports radio.

Vernon often has guests on the program to assist him. They alternate between being members of the Memphis sports media and national media. Gary Parrish, Brian Edwards, and Jessica Benson are among recurring podcast visitors. Vernon's rapport with them is fun and sincere.

New episodes of the Chris Vernon Show air Mondays through Fridays. Episodes range from 90 minutes to two hours in length.
