Overcoming imposter syndrome to thrive in ecology
Phewf! Welcome to 2023. And we're starting with an absolute bang - covering a big topic today that's been a long time in the coming. Today we are shining a light on this uncomfortable topic to share strategies on how to manage your #impostersyndrome and ultimately thrive in ecology 🤠🌿🪲 Let’s be honest/ Whether we like it or not,  imposter syndrome manifests in many different ways and affects most of us - at all stages of our journey, in all levels of our career, (especially within the environmental industry) at one time or another - and yet it's an insecurity we hide away, a topic we shy away from and rarely discuss despite its prevalence.  Imposter syndrome can impact the way we feel about our own story, the success we have in this field and the positive work we can do for wildlife 🦁 so today, we are teasing apart this issue and discussing:  1. What is imposter syndrome and where does it come from? 2. How to recognise imposter syndrome 3. How to manage and overcome the tight grip that imposter syndrome may have over your life and career. We provide six techniques we can use to combat those feelings of inadequacy from my experience 💪 in order to maximise your impact in the world 🌎🦉 #ITSAWILDLIFE #itsawildlife is a podcast and blog, sharing the great work being done for wildlife conservation worldwide and solving problems for ecologists by ecologists. Opening up the conservation space with Maria Hashmi

Opening up the conservation space with Maria Hashmi
NOTE: this blog post is published in full on Conservation Careers blog. Maria Hashmi, 21 years old, has a huge passion for all things zoology, especially reptiles. This fascination with protecting the natural world has led to her rebellion against expectations of her as a Pakistani woman to pursue a profession in wildlife conservation. Maria questions why women shouldn’t be involved in this field when Pakistan has so much wildlife in need of protection. Pakistan is a country of 221 million people where 33.8 % live beneath the poverty line and while it is home to exceptional biodiversity, from Snow Leopard to Pangolin to Black Bear, many species are declining at alarming rates. Motivated to turn this story around, since finishing school, Maria has built her network with the international community of wildlifers and now works online with Conservation Optimism, Pridelands Films and Reserva all on a voluntary basis as well as with her father on her family’s wildlife reserve. Maria shares her experience as a woman pursuing zoology in this biodiversity blindspot to save Pakistan’s precious natural capital. #ITSAWILDLIFE #itsawildlife is a podcast and blog, sharing the great work being done for wildlife conservation worldwide and solving problems for ecologists by ecologists.
