Cargo is a 2017 Australian post-apocalyptic horror drama film directed by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke with a screenplay by Ramke based on their 2013 short film of the same name.  The film stars Martin Freeman, Simone Landers, Anthony Hayes, David Gulpilil, Susie Porter, and Caren Pistorius. Night of the Living Dead (1990) is an American horror film directed by Tom Savini, featuring Tony Todd and Patricia Tallman in his directorial debut. A remake of George A. Romero's 1968 film, it follows seven strangers surviving in a farmhouse amidst a zombie outbreak. Romero revised the screenplay, originally co-authored with John A. Russo. Dolores Claiborne is a 1995 American psychological thriller drama film directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Christopher Plummer, and David Strathairn. The screenplay by Tony Gilroy is based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film’s score was written by Danny Elfman. The plot focuses on the strained relationship between a mother and her daughter, largely told through flashbacks, after her daughter arrives to her remote hometown on a Maine island where her mother has been accused of murdering the elderly woman for whom she had long been a care-provider and companion. Dolores Claiborne was the second major King film adaptation to star Bates in a leading role after Misery five years earlier. Kathy Bates stated in a retrospective interview that her performance as the titular Dolores was her favorite performance she had ever given. Misery is a 1990 American psychological thriller film directed by Rob Reiner, based on Stephen King's 1987 novel of the same name, starring James Caan, Kathy Bates, Lauren Bacall, Richard Farnsworth, and Frances Sternhagen. The plot centers around an author who is held captive by an obsessive fan who forces him to rewrite the finale to his novel series. Misery was the second Stephen King film adaptation directed by Rob Reiner, after 1986’s Stand By Me.  Misery would go on to be a success and would launch the career of Kathy Bates.  Though there have been lots of nominations (some we have covered here on The Film Flamers), Misery, so far, is the only King film to receive an Oscar. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a 2010 Finnish fantasy action horror comedy film written and directed by Jalmari Helander about people living near Korvatunturi who discover the secret behind Santa Claus. The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film produced by MGM. An adaptation of L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's fantasy novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the film was primarily directed by Victor Fleming, who left at nearly the end of production to take over the troubled Gone with the Wind. The 13th Warrior is a 1999 American historical action film based on Michael Crichton's 1976 novel Eaters of the Dead, which is a loose adaptation of the tale of Beowulf combined with Ahmad ibn Fadlan's historical account of the Volga Vikings. The film stars Antonio Banderas, Diane Venora, and Omar Sharif. The film was directed by John McTiernan and written by William Wisher, Jr and Warren Lewis.  Michael Crichton served as producer, as well as directing a few uncredited reshoots. Jerry Goldsmith composed the score.
