Our Editor's Take

OverDrive is the podcast form of the popular TSN 1050 afternoon drive radio show. A fast-paced sports talk show, it combines commentary with comedy skits. It's one of Canada's most popular afternoon shows, especially in its home market of Toronto.

The hosts of the podcast are Bryan Hayes, Jamie McLennan, and Jeff O'Neill. On-air, they go by the names Hayes, Noodles, and O-Dog. The hosts spend a lot of time talking about hockey, especially the Leafs, and each of the three has a connection to the sport. Hayes is a former minor-league hockey player and son of Canadian radio veteran Bill Hayes. McLennan is a former NHL goaltender who was active from 1991 until 2008. Upon completing his career as a player, he moved into the analyst role for TSN. O'Neill was a right winger who spent twelve years in the NHL. He played for several teams during his career. These include both the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

One of the things that makes OverDrive a fun listen is the show's humor. The three hosts love playing jokes on one another and giving each other a hard time. Hayes and McLennan tricked O'Neill into a fake interview segment in one episode. The humor, being quintessentially Canadian, is always warm and never mean-spirited.

Many episodes of OverDrive have a special guest, mainly other TSN sports analysts. Sometimes they invite athletes, such as former NFL player Marcellus Wiley.

New episodes of OverDrive air on a regular basis each week. Each episode averages about 45 minutes in length.
