Our Editor's Take

An Acquired Taste Podcast is a platform for two friends to meet and talk about whatever comes to mind. The range of topics in this podcast can sometimes feel random and unexpected. It represents the hosts' hobbies, niche interests, and insomniac thoughts. For instance, one episode discusses the mysterious Havana syndrome. This is a group of unexplained symptoms that US officials stationed in Cuba experienced. Another episode talks about a couple adopting a kid from Ukraine whom they thought was an adult. The way the hosts see it, the podcast provides them with an excellent excuse to do weird research. It expands their curiosity, which the pair feels is the most important quality.

When An Acquired Taste Podcast began in 2016, it had three hosts. Bethany Watson, Kathleen Heaney, and Sam Rosalie met on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. The three enjoyed working on the program together and became friends outside of it. They decided to start a podcast as a place for them to showcase other sides of their personalities. It was a place for them to express their awkwardness and weird thought processes. It didn't have a set format other than being entertaining. Topics included things like revealing the hosts' latest Google searches or role-playing flirting.

At some point, Sam decided she wanted to dedicate her time to other projects. Bethany and Kathleen continued with their quirky chemistry. They found even more obscure subjects to discuss. For example, they talk about a forbidden place near Brazil called Snake Island. There is also plenty of self-help advice on the podcast and funny anecdotes from their lives.

The hosts of An Acquired Taste Podcast invite listeners into their bizarre conversations to participate in the fun. In 2023, the pair said their final goodbye. There is an archive of almost 500 hilarious, timeless episodes to listen to.
