Ripping Off the Bandaid To Achieve Holistic Health

Today’s guest is Brendan Vermeire, a mental and metabolic health scientist, researcher, educator, author, and speaker. He is also a board-certified holistic health practitioner, master nutrition coach, master personal trainer, USAW Sports performance coach, and Crossfit trainer. Brendan’s journey with mold began years ago after moving into a water-damaged house and later being introduced to the concept of mold illness.

For years, Brendan dealt with the back and forth in the medical world while trying to find a healing solution for his fiance at the time. While he’s still unsure as to whether or not mold caused her debilitating chronic illness, the experience was his first brush with functional medicine, environmental factors, and finding the root cause of illness. Since that initial realization, he dove into functional medicine, particularly focusing on how impactful environmental factors like mold can be on mental health.

His passion in the field led to a career helping chronically ill individuals, the creation of a wide range of informative materials, a nonprofit dedicated to research and education, and a plethora of case studies aimed at pushing the envelope forward for healthier living for all, among other inspirational feats.

Today’s Talk:

In this episode, Michael Rubino chats with Brendan Vermeire about his journey into the realm of mold, what led him to become a renowned professional in the functional medicine world, and an advocate for healthier living for all. Throughout his journey, Brenden has continued to push for greater understanding, awareness, and change of how environmental factors like mold impact health in relation to overall wellbeing due to lifestyle.

Brenden believes that his first brush with mold began after moving into a water-damaged house with his fiance at the time. Over time, his fiance continued to feel chronically ill and developed what he believed was a classic case of CIRS. Still, while they went to a variety of doctors and specialists, no one could pinpoint what was causing her to feel unwell, even though she continued to suggest that mold was the root cause. Sadly, she would eventually lose her battle with life in 2020, and they would never get to the bottom of whether or not she was struggling with mold toxicity.

As Brenden said, "Trying to save her is what got me into functional medicine," and years later, he would be re-introduced to the idea of mold illness. From that moment on, he hit the ground running and dove into researching and figuring out how to help individuals get their bodies back into balance, especially if they’ve been suffering from mold exposure. The biggest piece of the puzzle, he found, is to help clients focus on getting their mental health in a positive place and actively work on improving their metabolic health.
