Legalese and Footers: Are They Necessary in Email Marketing? 02 10
In today's video, we dive deep into the world of email footers, legalese, and their impact on your email marketing campaigns. Our guest speaker, Aysha Zouain, a marketing technologist and email marketing specialist at the City National Bank of Florida, shares her insights and experiences in this fascinating discussion. In this episode of the Email Never Sleeps podcast, we explore the often-overlooked aspect of email marketing—footers. We examine the role of footers in different industries, the need for legalese, and how they can affect the overall user experience. Aysha brings her extensive knowledge from working in various sectors, including e-commerce, government, insurance, and banking, to this topic. Throughout the conversation, we address the question of whether footers are necessary for every email and discuss the implications of including lengthy legal disclaimers. Aysha shares her observations and interactions with legal departments, highlighting the sometimes conflicting perspectives between marketers and lawyers. We also consider the effect of visual clutter on email recipients and the importance of concise and engaging content. We examine the role of footers in regulated industries, such as finance and fintech, where legal requirements often dictate the inclusion of legalese. Aysha provides valuable insights into the challenges faced in these industries, where the legal department's concerns about technology and potential lawsuits can lead to lengthy and complex emails. However, she also emphasizes the need to balance compliance and user experience. Transitioning to consumer brands and e-commerce, we delve into the question of whether extensive footers are necessary in these contexts. Aysha suggests that shorter, concise footers with links to detailed information can be more effective. By employing a "pick and choose" approach, brands can avoid overwhelming their audience with excessive content and instead provide essential information as needed. We discuss email marketers' potential confusion when dealing with global footers and the lack of documentation that often accompanies them. Aysha acknowledges email developers' and specialists' challenges in understanding and implementing complex footer structures. She also appreciates global footers' versatility and customization options, allowing brands to tailor their communication to different segments and regions. Throughout the conversation, Aysha emphasizes the importance of considering the user's attention span and providing a seamless experience. She discusses her experiences working with clients who prioritize user-friendly footers and their positive impact on engagement and click-through rates. Join us for this insightful discussion on email footers and legalese, where we uncover the best practices for creating effective and user-friendly emails. Career Growth in Email Marketing: Advice for Aspiring Professionals Eric Kriegermeier 02 09
Career Growth in Email Marketing - From Gym Owner to Email Marketing Expert. Welcome to the Email Never Sleeps podcast. In today's episode, we delve into the fascinating topic of how individuals get started in the email industry and what keeps them going. Our guest for today is Eric Kriegermeier, the Director of Solutions Engineering at Shaw/Scott. Eric and Andrew have known each other since 2016, when they worked at Trendline Interactive, an agency. Eric shares his background and journey into the email marketing world. Originally from Chicago, he lives in Paraguay and has been a digital nomad since 2017. Eric's journey began when he opened a martial arts and fitness gym in Atlanta in 2007. He learned about email marketing and lead generation from scratch, using his own website and conducting his own campaigns. With a background in graphic design, working on a computer came naturally to him. In 2010, Eric joined Aspen Marketing as an HTML developer, where he quickly discovered his passion for the email marketing realm. Since then, he has transitioned from agency to in-house marketing teams, honing his skills and expertise. With the guidance and mentorship of great leaders, Eric has progressed from a campaign services tech to a solutions engineer and now holds the position of Director of Solutions Engineering at Shaw/Scott. During the conversation, Eric shares insights into the differences between agency and brand work in the email industry. He explains that agencies often work on multiple projects with tight deadlines, while brand work allows for a deeper understanding of the brand, subscribers, and clients. Eric humorously mentions that he jokes with his team about eventually moving to the brand side for an easier workload. As the podcast continues, the discussion turns to valuable advice for individuals aspiring to pursue a career in email marketing. Eric highlights two possible paths: becoming a technologist specializing in platforms and server-side JavaScript or focusing on thought leadership and team-building. He stresses the importance of constantly seeking knowledge and embracing a growth mindset. Eric also acknowledges the presence of imposter syndrome, which motivates him to continually learn and improve. The conversation also includes a thought-provoking topic: the debate surrounding remote work and returning to the office. As someone who has been remote for many years, Eric shares his belief that the email industry can thrive with remote work. He explains that returning to the office may be suitable for certain types of work, but for the email industry, remote work offers flexibility and productivity advantages. Join us in this insightful episode as Eric Kriegermeier shares his journey, career advice, and thoughts on remote work in the email industry. The Future of Email Creation for 2023 and Beyond 02 06
In this video, Andrew Kordek, VP at iPost, hosts a session of Email Never Sleeps with Dmitry Kudrenko, the CEO and co-founder of Stripo, an email design platform. The topic of discussion in this video is the future of email creation. Dimitri discusses the four stakeholders in email creation: email clients, email logic, editors, and marketers. The discussion then focuses on traditional email creation and how it has been slow to develop due to security and legacy issues. Dimitri's goal is to improve the user experience for all stakeholders and discusses how changes in infrastructure and AI could impact the future of email creation. They talk about skipping the stage of the designer and focusing on building guidelines, modules, rules, and patterns, which have already been tested. Also emphasized is the importance of a good creative brief to help with designing, coding, messaging, copywriting, and strategy. They discuss the philosophy of agile programming and the value of individuals and interactions over processes and tools. The future of email creation centers around planning and using tools to help achieve this. Why are unsubscribe links at the bottom of the page? Michelle Norton Email Never Sleeps 02 03
In episode 3 of "Email Never Sleeps", Andrew Kordek, VP at iPost, discusses why unsubscribe links are typically found at the bottom of marketing emails. He invites Michelle Norton, a Solutions Architect at List Engage, to share her thoughts on the matter.   The conversation kicks off with Andrew questioning who decided to put the unsubscribe link at the bottom of emails and why. Michelle suggests that many companies hide the unsubscribe link because they are afraid of losing subscribers, but notes that hiding the link is not a good strategy because if someone wants to unsubscribe, they will find a way to do so regardless of whether or not the link is visible.   Andrew and Michelle discuss the various ways in which companies hide the unsubscribe link, such as burying it in legalese or using language like "manage your preferences" to make it less obvious. Michelle points out that as someone who works in the email industry, she is trained to look for the unsubscribe link at the bottom of emails, but the average person may not know where to look.   The conversation then turns to the topic of email preferences and how companies can use them to keep subscribers engaged. Michelle suggests that companies should offer subscribers options for how often they receive emails, what type of content they receive, and whether or not they want to receive promotional offers. She notes that providing these options can help companies retain subscribers and reduce the number of unsubscribed.   Andrew and Michelle conclude the episode by emphasizing the importance of transparency and providing subscribers with a clear way to unsubscribe. They both agree that companies should make the unsubscribe link visible and easy to find, as this can help build trust with subscribers and ultimately lead to better engagement.   Overall, this episode provides valuable insights into the importance of unsubscribe links and email preferences in the world of email marketing. It highlights the need for companies to be transparent and upfront with their subscribers in order to build trust and maintain a healthy email list.   #email #unsubscribe #unsubscribelinks #emailneversleeps --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ipost/support

The Marketing Manager Who Wears Alot of Hats with Jay Schwedelson | Email Never Sleeps 02 02
In this video, Andrew Kordek, the host of iPost's Email Never Sleeps, is joined by Jay Schwedelson, the founder of Outcome Media and the Guru Conference, to discuss how marketing managers can make the most of their email marketing campaigns.  Andrew and Jay focus on what marketing managers with a lack of time for sophistication should do to improve their email marketing campaigns.   Watch this video if you are interested in learning about the importance of the subject line in email marketing. Jay emphasizes that marketers should focus on crafting a compelling subject line that can engage the reader, and that it is often the most overlooked part of an email campaign.  They also discuss the importance of "cleaning house", which means taking a high-level view of the email program to determine what needs to be changed.  Andrew and Jay advise marketers to pay attention to their list hygiene, platform quality, and deliverability. Jay suggests that marketers should focus on creating good subject lines, friendly “from” addresses, and pre-header text.  They also emphasize that marketers should test their subject lines and spend more time creating them rather than leaving them to the last minute.   Also discussed is the upcoming Guru Conference, a free virtual event for email marketers.  They encourage marketers to attend and learn from experts about how to improve their email marketing campaigns.   Learn more about the Guru Conference Here:  https://guruconference.com/  What is iPost?  https://www.ipost.com/  #marketingmanager #emailsubjectline #inbox #emailneversleeps --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ipost/support
