There are many ways that leaders lead. Undoubtedly, you've encountered many leadership styles in all aspects of your life - work, school, and mentorship...just to name a few. Some lead in a passive nature, some are hands-on. Others "rule with an iron fist" while others listen to everyone around them, channel the great ideas, and execute.

In today's conversation on The Makin Wellness Podcast, we are going to talk about what it means to lead with empathy and with excellence.

On Episode 8, I am pleased to welcome Julius Boatwright, the Founding CEO of Steel Smiling in Pittsburgh, PA. At Steel Smiling, they bridge the gap between Black people and mental health support through education, advocacy, and awareness. Their Mental Health Workforce Development Program (Beams to Bridges) equips Black adults with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to serve as Community Mental Health Workers. While completing the programmatic experience, cohort members receive the following: weekly workforce stipends, emergency financial assistance, mental health training, behavioral health treatment, and social service support.

Our conversation covers many aspects of mental health and wellness experiences, how Julius has worked with his team and his patients through the COVID-19 pandemic, how leaders need to prioritize tasks in their day to stay efficient and effective, why everyone needs to take initiative to bring positive change to their world, and much more.
