Save My Thyroid

Dr. Eric Osansky

If you have hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter, etc.) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis and are looking to do everything to save your thyroid gland, then the Save My Thyroid podcast is for you! Dr. Eric Osansky is the host, as he personally was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2008 and was able to get into remission taking a natural approach. He created this podcast to help others with hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's save their thyroid and regain their health. If you have hyperthyroidism then pretty much all of the episodes will benefit you, and if you have Hashimoto's you'll benefit from most of the guest expert episodes, as well as some of the "solo" episodes. The reason there is more of a focus on hyperthyroidism is because all of the other thyroid-related podcasts focus mostly on hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's, and since Dr. Eric personally dealt with Graves' disease he wanted this podcast to focus more on hyperthyroidism, although it will still offer plenty of value to those with hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's. Dr. Eric Osansky lives in Matthews NC with his wife, 2 daughters, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 guinea pigs! He has been a practitioner for 20+ years, and has focused on helping people with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions since 2009. read less

Can Trauma Trigger Graves' Disease?
“You can’t be in trauma mode and healing mode at the same time.” - Dr. Irene CopWhen most people think of trauma, they think about abuse, war, or other major life-shifting events. In truth, at a fundamental level, trauma is any time we feel overwhelmed, powerless, out of control, vulnerable, and afraid.Traumatic experiences can come from chronic stress that has worn you right down, the sudden stress of a massive car accident, or any other seemingly minor incident left without getting healed or resolved. These experiences, whether major or minor, have been linked to serious health conditions and can’t be overlooked on the healing journey.Today, I’m excited to be joined by Irene Cop, MD, DC, founder and CEO of the Success S.H.I.F.T. Institute. Because of her catastrophic burnout and near-fatal experience, Dr. Irene developed an innovative protocol to heal against all odds that she uses with clients worldwide to help them bounce back from setbacks and live their most successful lives. Dr. Irene believes there's no use trying to heal your thyroid without healing your nervous system and neurophysiology. In this conversation, Dr. Irene and I discuss different types of trauma, the importance of addressing trauma at a physical and neurological level, how trauma can impact physical health and hinder healing, what you can do to start healing your unresolved trauma, how to become stronger and more resilient, and more. The 3 Core Body Systems to Help Reverse Graves' Disease and Hashimoto's with Stephanie Grosvenor
“You can’t have a symptom or a diagnosis, whether it's chronic or autoimmune, without having an imbalance in one, two, or three of these core systems.” - Stephanie GrosvenorWhen we’re working towards optimal health, there are three core systems we need to focus on: the detoxification system, gut and digestive system, and immune system. While they are three different systems, they’re very closely linked - when one is affected, there are knock-on effects on the other two.The good news is that once we start to heal one of these systems, you’ll also see improvements in the other two.Today, I’m very excited to be joined by Stephanie Grosvenor, a holistic nutritionist and functional medicine Health Coach specializing in simplifying health for you so that you not only live a life that improves the way you look, live, feel, and age but one that you are excited to wake up to and live, every day.In this conversation, Stephanie and I discuss her health journey, the three core body systems that can help reverse thyroid autoimmunity, why you need realistic expectations in the healing process, how you can support and rebalance these systems, the role of stress management, sleep, and nutrient deficiencies in thyroid health, and more. Increasing Muscle Mass with Dr. Emily Kiberd

Increasing Muscle Mass with Dr. Emily Kiberd
“I want my exercise to be efficient. I want it to be effective.” - Dr. Emily KiberdMuscle is essential to help convert thyroid hormones from T4 to T3. Unfortunately, it’s hard to build muscle for many people with thyroid conditions. At the same time, two of the biggest struggles for those dealing with hypothyroidism are chronic fatigue and losing weight.Feeding the muscle tissue with resistance training is often the best bet to tackle these issues since the more muscle we have, the more calories we burn at rest. Despite the cultural mindset of running and restricting fat intake, doing consistent resistance training and consuming enough protein can make a substantial positive difference to your health. To explore this topic further, I’m joined by Dr. Emily Kiberd today. Dr. Emily is a chiropractor, mama to Elvis and Brooklyn, and the creator of Thyroid Strong, the only doctor-designed exercise program for women with Hashimoto's to learn to work out without burnout. She has been featured in Vogue, Women's Health, Self magazine, and Fortune for her expertise in strength training, injury prevention, and ergonomics. In this conversation, Dr. Emily and I discuss the importance of exercise for individuals with thyroid conditions, her journey into helping people with muscle mass and exercise, the benefits of resistance training, recommendations for protein intake, the importance of proper form and technique, how to find the right exercise program for you, and more. Discussing Thyroid Physiology with Dr. Eric Balcavage
We all have stress in our lives, whether physical, chemical, emotional, or microbial, and how we deal with that stress makes a huge difference in how our bodies respond. A lot of what we see with thyroid physiology is an adaptive response to some type of excessive stress response.Getting well is not about how many supplements you take; it’s about finding a balanced approach to diet, nutrition, sleep, respiration, and exercise. We can support thyroid recovery by identifying and reducing the underlying stressors and addressing the foundational elements of good health.Today, I’m excited to discuss thyroid physiology with Dr. Eric Balcavage. Dr. Eric Balcavage is the owner and founder of Rejuvagen, a functional medicine clinic in Chadds Ford, PA, and a nationally recognized speaker and educator on various health-related topics, including thyroid physiology, bile physiology, detoxification, oxidative stress, methylation, and chronic illness. In this conversation, Dr. Eric and I discuss his journey into functional medicine, his perspective on thyroid health, the importance of identifying and addressing underlying stressors, limitations of the allopathic approach to treating thyroid disorders, Dr. Eric’s approach to thyroid hormone testing, the role of breathing and carbon dioxide in oxygenation, why we must look at lab markers in a bigger context, and more. Why Those With Thyroid Conditions Should Care About Progesterone

Why Those With Thyroid Conditions Should Care About Progesterone
“All of our hormones are like a symphony.” - Dr. Betty MurrayWith our increasingly toxic environment and higher baseline stress levels, our bodies, especially the pituitary and hypothalamus, are dealing with so much more than 50 years ago. Although Western medicine often parses individual hormones as the domain of different specialists, all of our hormones work together, so any treatment plan has to consider these connections. Jumping straight to thyroid medication or hormone replacement alone doesn’t address the underlying issues.Today, I’m excited to be joined by Dr. Betty Murray, a nutrition expert, Ph.D. researcher, certified functional medicine practitioner, and speaker who has dedicated her career to helping women over 40 harness their hormones to lose weight, optimize sleep, restore energy, and thrive. In this episode, we dive deep into the world of hormones, discussing everything from progesterone and its role in women's health to postpartum thyroiditis. Betty shares her expertise on how hormone and metabolic imbalances can impact women's health, particularly during menopause, and offers practical tips for restoring balance and improving overall health. Betty also shares her menopause journey and how her research led her to develop a unique approach to hormone health.
