Research is an important aspect of writing a book. Knowing how, when and where to use the details you discover will create believable characters or a realistic world in fiction, and in non-fiction it helps to deliver on the promise you offer your readers. Multi-genre author Pat Black-Gould and I talked about the pivot she did from writing and publishing a children’s book to her first historical fiction adult novel. To add to this shift, Pat shared how she worked with her co-author for the novel, especially since she had 80,000 words for their working draft. The details she shared on researching for the book as well as co-authoring a fictional piece will inspire you to take your manuscript to the next level. Pat Black-Gould, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and an award-winning author. Her book, The Crystal Beads, Lalka’s Journey, about a hidden child of the Holocaust, won three gold medal awards.
